I saw this on youtube earlier and started to think 'What depths will American troops not sink to?'

Watch the link and you will see what i am talking about.

Don't you dare judge the actions of young men and women that have been under fire and risking their lives for over four years now. Many of these KIDS haven't seen home in years. You have absolutely no right to criticize them from the comfort of your home.

I am not making excuses for bad behavior or the war in general, but they have been under high-stress combat situations in which they often can't see the enemy coming for many months and often years longer than they were supposed to. That will do funny things to anyone.

he's not stupid, he's trying to have a good time, if you think he's an idiot for trying to amuse himself while fighting in a war then you sir, are a jackass
By offering a child an explosive? That's responsible amusement.
Entertainment doesn't NEED to be responsible to be funny (slapstick comedy, punkt, etc...)

Can't be bothered to check if this has been posted so far, but one of the most shockingly tasteless and cruel things I've seen on this topic is making poverty stricken Iraqi children run several blocks after a Jeep for one measly bottle of water. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQo5Few_9c8] I was shocked and appalled, but I will admit I did laugh purely because of the Yakety Sax. I'll see you guys in hell...

Ever stop to think why that is?

We learned that if you tell them you can't do something, they eventually stop bugging you. That they will learn to rely on the official units that hand out toys and food and water. It was the damn Marines that were in the district next to us who kept giving these kids stuff and doing things for them that kept the kids coming back to the checkpoint and mobbing American vehicles.

While I agree that the prank itself was not that bad, the problem I have is that the people recorded it and put it on the Internet without thinking about how it would be perceived by the international community. That's what appears to be happening here - most of the soldiers engaged in doing pranks or dumb things let themselves get filmed, then post it to the Internet. And then have issues when there is a lot of political backlash.

Which is the bone-headed move, really. It's like they don't think their CO's will hear about it or see it.
Sure, it was stupid to post something on the internet, but when did we become such a nation of crybabies? Crying foul everytime somone does something that hurts our feeling or isn't what we would do? Smoke ol PFC Jackoff out back and call it a day. You got his own countrymen calling for him to be discharged and beaten in some cases. It's ridiculous.
Note that I mentioned international community.

Americans aren't the only ones on here who saw that video and reacted badly to it. YouTube isn't exclusively an American website.

Seriously, in response to MaxTheReaper:

Sure, maybe it doesn't work 100% of the time, but it gives the person time to think about the consequences of their actions. It works more often than not, since coming very close to being dishonorably discharged can set a mind straight. You don't want to be dishonorably discharged - that's like a bad mark on your permanent government record that prevents further employment down the road.

Krieg:
Portable toilets in Iraq and other deployments are pretty bad. Having to clean one out is some soldiers' nightmares.

I am really fed up with of all of this crap where everyone jumps on the "Fuck America" bandwagon. Every day you hear or read in the news about soldiers of other militaries or malitias raping, killing, looting, and committing genocide often to defenseless women and children.

Then a few ignorant soldiers in the US military are seen and video-recorded doing stupid yet far less atrocious (non-killing) things and it gets on Youtube only to incite more vulgar bashing of everything about America by foul-mouthed teenagers and young adults in other countries whom which are regarded as more intelligent and more cultured than American teenagers and young adults.

Yes I know it's easy to bash America right now; even illiterate people who cannot type do it all the time and often with heavy profanity. The United States does not have the best image right now, I agree. But let us remember that we aren't the ones whom which repress religion. We aren't the ones who force you to have an abortion if you have one too many kids. We aren't the one's who threaten our neighbors with violence if they have criticisms about our faith. We don't "ethnically cleanse" our population. Yes, there is racism which exists in the hearts and minds of stupid people, but at least our government does its best to deliver the participants of hate crime to justice rather than scapegoat them call upon organized genocide.

I'm right there behind you. It annoys me to no end, and then I remember, "Hey, I don't really have to inteact with these people IRL, so it's actually just sad for them."

You hit the nail on the head why our CO's and the SecDef are clamping down on these things, and telling people who do my job in the military to remind US troops not to do this stuff and put it on the web.

Let's not give our enemies or other people anything to point to and say bad things about our military. Things are hard enough that we don't need additional resistance or hatred rolling about the world.

The leading cause of death on the Oregon Trail to California during the Gold Rush was people accidentally shooting themselves with guns they had just bought to protect themselves from Native Americans.
You better not be lying, or else you'd make me a very sad individual.

Nay nay! This is what my history teacher said.
Another sad thing is that children on the trail often got so bored that they would become absentminded and would die by falling out of the back of their Conestoga wagons and being trampled by the Oxen pulling the wagon behind the one the child was sitting on.

if people hate the U.S. military then they should hate every military around the wourld too. y pick on the U.S.
most people dont regognize the extent and expense the american militery pays to minimize civilian casulties unlike other countries who kill anyone that doesnt wear their uniform
most people who hate the american military hate it because they have nothing better to hate
