Is it just me or will American troops' stupidity never stop?

Yes the OP wasn't as bad as that but still. I really don't approve of American soldiers behaving like that while in uniform, if I was their CO they would be in some serious shit.

I'm still mad about the one Marine who threw a puppy off a cliff.
I hope they kicked him out? Unlikely, of course, but he deserves far worse.
Oh, and look at the lovely comments.

"ErasmusBasset (39 seconds ago)
They could have shot him instead.

I'd have laughed."
Ha ha ha, yeah! Shooting kids is hilarious, and great for our image!
****.
Pretty sure the marine was dishonorably discharged.

LMAO...

So you guys are surprised that an organization of kids who couldn't make college without help, or convicts with court-mandated military service, and the rare breed of honestly patriotic individuals have some scumbags in the ranks?

I'm in the Navy, been in 3 1/2 years (not long).

It's made me very pessimistic of my peers, and racist by experience.

I will say that I didn't know Filipinos existed pre-Navy, and they're all f*cking awesome.

Want to know who's in the military?

Go to the mall and pick 15 people at random.

We are you. We have liberals. We have 9/11 conspiracy theorists. We have felons and recovering criminals. We have great people too, and it's one of those great equalizers that can allow someone of any race/background set themselves up to live independently, but that doesn't mean that all people shape up and fly-right. Most don't!

Picking on the misdeeds of an individual of a huge organization is on-par with 1900's propaganda of someone who smoked weed murdering someone, and blaming it on the weed and not the person.

PS Jesus loves you.

PPS Not really, wear a bullet-proof vest.

Soldiers aren't super heroes, they aren't jedi, they are human, they do stupid things. Especially when they were probably raised wrong by their parents. I don't know why you think American soldiers are any better or worse than other soldiers of other nations. And why does the stupidity of few damn the rest? That soldier is a your standard young dumb American teenager(or twenty something{who can be even dumber}). Everybody get off your goddamned high horses and look at it like you have some damn sense. I'm not saying what this jackass did was okay, but it was hardly some heinous war crime.

I'm sick of hearing all the excuses for the soldiers behaviour. To even make a joke about handing a live grenade to children is just sheer stupidity. Not only that, but asking him if he wanted candy first to fool the kid. I don't care how long they have been in that place for, they are meant to be professionals and that is not professional behaviour. There is no excuse for it, they should have known better.

A German dude just mugged someone!

HURRY, PUT ALL THE GERMAN PEOPLE ON TRIAL TILL THEY AGREE TO STOP MUGGING PEOPLE!

...

Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

Doing the same to the military is just that.

And yes what he did was terrible, and no that's not how the military trained him to act.

A german dude mugging someone, is not as dangerous as handing a grenade to a child. One mistake would have been all it took to make the situation worse. Making excuses for that sort of stupid behaviour just pisses me off. I'll make it clear, I'm not American. But, if those were or are one of the types of people that were trained to protect my country I'd still be disgusted.

You don't get it, and that hurts my feelings.

Replace mug with "gave a child a live grenade".

Reprocess it.

Understand how it accurately portrays the disconnect between judging an individual's action and blaming the person, VS saying that because that individual did something, the rest of his company is similarly corrupt.

I really want to help you, but you have to let me in. Don't shut me out. We're about to have a breakthrough here.

If the rest of his company had even the smallest part in it, or even condoned the action, then yes they should be judged too. But, I don't understand where you get the idea that I am judging more than the person involved? Wait a second, I'll fix it so it's easier for you to understand...first paragraph edited for your benefit.

I'm use to that sort of sarcasm, so if that was also a dig to try to get me to fly into a fit of rage like most people do, then I'm so sorry to disappoint you. It just makes you look like an idiot.

Well, maybe.

There are better ways to punish chuckleheads. One is to dock their pay and/or bust their rank down a notch or two. And put them on portable toilet duty.

I've seen some really dickheaded military people change their attitude greatly after these kinds of punishments.

Especially portable duty. I've had people tell me after doing two months of portable duty that they wished they'd been discharged rather than go through that for so long.

Even when Americans type the word **** it seems weird to me, I just can't picture anyone who isn't British saying it.

But yeah, you're right. I find it funny that people are condoning this because they are in battle.

Yes, now you're making sense. Judged those who did it or condone it, but don't assume that the Army trained its soldiers to behave like that; it's the individual that's f*cking up here.

I'm glad we had this talk, and how well we reciprocate with each other =D. You made some great progress since your initial post, and that's NOT just me blowing smoke up your arse!

We should hang out some time.

Give me your address and phone number. NOW.

I have been overseas twice and I can't stress enough how annoying Iraqi kids are, they will surround your vehicles begging for anything you have and make movement and retaliation almost impossible. You can say it was a stupid trick, but the fact is it was just a prank. He never let go of the grenade and you never even see it in the video so it could very well be a dummy grenade. I think everyone should get off their high horses and think if you've ever pulled anything twice as bad as this on your own friends. I think considering most lower enlisted soldiers are anywhere from 18-25 years old, they show a level of discipline and restraint most of you out there will NEVER know. Soldiers are very well respected by Iraqi communities, we are courteous and usual only violate their privacy if there's a general threat to the area, not to mention all the candy and water and toys we aree usually giving to the ungrateful kids. Support your country guys, even if we do fucked up shit this is the home team. Enlist yourself if you truly want perspective or stop thinking you know everything.

Ever stop to think why that is?

We learned that if you tell them you can't do something, they eventually stop bugging you. That they will learn to rely on the official units that hand out toys and food and water. It was the damn Marines that were in the district next to us who kept giving these kids stuff and doing things for them that kept the kids coming back to the checkpoint and mobbing American vehicles.

While I agree that the prank itself was not that bad, the problem I have is that the people recorded it and put it on the Internet without thinking about how it would be perceived by the international community. That's what appears to be happening here - most of the soldiers engaged in doing pranks or dumb things let themselves get filmed, then post it to the Internet. And then have issues when there is a lot of political backlash.

Which is the bone-headed move, really. It's like they don't think their CO's will hear about it or see it.

Sure, it was stupid to post something on the internet, but when did we become such a nation of crybabies? Crying foul everytime somone does something that hurts our feeling or isn't what we would do? Smoke ol PFC Jackoff out back and call it a day. You got his own countrymen calling for him to be discharged and beaten in some cases. It's ridiculous.

Soldiers do tend to be jackasses.
By that definition you must have enlisted at birth. There are some 30,000 soldiers deployed. The handful that the media(youtube included) spotlight do not a valid representation make. And remember, where ever you live, these "jackasses" risk their collective lives so you can be one, too. God bless our troops and yours, too!
