I want to, but never will as there is no one else who does around here (because it's nerdy).

Yeah, it is. But so what? I'm in a D&D group, and all of us call it 'Geek Club'. If you wanna join a D&D group, go for it.

"Here we have a game that combines the charm of a Pentagon briefing with the excitement of double-entry bookkeeping. I don't get it." - Cecil Adams [http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/278/whats-the-deal-with-dungeons-and-dragons]

I'm with Cecil on this one. Take up tax accounting if you want to spend your time futzing around with numbers all day.

As "nerdy" has no official definition it's up to you, whether you feel nerdy or not.
Also good luck finding a group to play. Where I live there are none (unfortunately).

Reading this thread reminded me of:

In relation to the actual thread, yes, as others have said, it is nerdy, not like that's a bad thing though - it's never stopped me.

I'm fairly sure playing D&D defines 'nerdy' in the way that being the Pope defines 'Catholic'. In other words, yes.

Just enjoy yourself, if you are 2m high rugby player no one will hold it against you and if you are small, scrawny guy with glasses, well you are nerdy enough without playing DnD, so you can't possibly lose anything.

I really want to play though I won't become addicted (hopefully)

Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on you and on the group you play with. Just as you can have total dorks spazzing out about American Football (talking percentages, strategies, and calculating ball trajectory), you can also have socially well adjusted people sitting around playing a dice game.

Yes D&D or as I like to call it Dorks & Dice is the essence of nerd incarnate, should you care what people think hell no, it's not like your hurting anyone.

Wait until a brother/sister/niece/nephew/daughter/son chokes on a D8... D&D CAN HURT.

OT: Just roll with it. It is a fun game that gives you a lot of freedom to do what you can think of as fun. Like a friend and I made a pair of alcoholic dwarven twin brother barbarians/frenzied berzerkers together and essentially roamed the face of the planet destroying everything that disagreed with our opinions. With possibilities like that who cares if someone might call you nerdy? Reply with "go eat your orange dickhead" and remain happy in the knowledge you are enjoying yourself.
