It's just a hobby it's not like it defines everything about who you are.
Occupations of the people I regularly play D&D with:
Detective (myself)
5th Grade Teacher
Child Protective Services Agent
Body Shop Owner
Accountant (for a large communications company)
Cameraman for local news station

All with various other interests and hobbies all love D&D (although right now we're playing 'changeling'

I want to play but have no friends to play with, so I'm stuck. And yes it is nerdy but no one really cares.

Yes. But you shouldn't really give a fuck what people think...and do you know what's really cool? Not giving a fuck what other people think of you. So at the very least they balance each other out.

Besides, I used to be one of the 'cool' people and then I got bored with what I was doing and started painting warhammer/40k figurers again and posting here and various other 'nerdy' things, but I enjoy myself doing them. I'd much rather be having fun doing nerdy things than being bored as one of the 'in crowd'. I still get invited to all the parties and whatnot but I rarely go.

if there was a way to play over the internet I would try, not talking about the litteral online game of DnD. the table top version over the comp.

... to play teh MMO- Extremely nerdy and is reprehensible.

To wnat to actually play DND, no, doesn't make you nerdy. Makes you want to have fun with friends playing an innocent game that has much more depth to it than any other table top piece of awesome.

it is, but im sure you're already a nerdy person. but really, I think that DnD is dated, with electronic entertainment (video games), rollplaying games have become more accessible, and i think you'd be better off playing an RPG, but hay, you can give it a try, but im sure its no pick-up n play game
Too bad video games require months of modding to get the depth of a simple five minute game of DnD...

I just recently joined a D&D group in Amsterdam which does meet-ups, never played D&D before but I figure it's better than sitting at home scratching my ass on a Sunday.

Slightly worried because i've actually never played the game before, not even on a computer.

Honestly the term "Nerdy" or "Nerd" is just what people call others who understand things that they do not. This way they can make themselves feel better about not getting it by saying that it is unpopular. Example:

"Science is stupid, only nerds like that! Math is for nerds too! Books are lame, only nerds like that stupid stuff!"

Sound familiar anyone? Just think back to Highschool and you'll remember at least one or two people like that.

I enjoy P&P RPGs a lot and (FINALLY) got a D&D group together to play on the weekend at the local hobby store. It took some effort and a bit of time to find some people, but I'm a lot happier for it, so go put yourself out there and play!

Although now i have the pressure of getting a new game setting up each week.

CURSE YOU DEADLINES!!!

Apparently playing Call Of Duty is nerdy.

Who cares what others think, I have a hard on for Medieval or Tolkien like fantasy settings. Fuck anyone who puts me down for that.
Seriously? Damn, I always thought it was 'cool' to CoD it up by now...

And Battle For Middle Earth rocks!
