It'd be such a unique concept, too!

"A gravelly-voiced masked space marine shoots aliens. Now with 50% more pseudo-religious bullshit!"
Don't knock that idea. It's pretty much the very essence of what a Warhammer 40.000 movie would be like, an it would be nothing short of awesomeness incarnated! : )

As for a Halo movie, I really couldn't care less. There was nothing really impressive about the games anyway. The only REALLY good thing that Halo has spawned would be the Red vs Blue series, the rest has just been: "meh.."

No, a good 40K movie would be centered around an imperial guardsman, showing the true horrors of war in the 41st millennium through they eyes of a mere man.

Actually a good 40K movie wouldn't be just "a" movie but rather a quintology of movies depicting the perspective from many of the Emperors servants, including the Astartes but also normal guardsmen and Inquisitorial agents(both on the frontline and rooting out heresy in more civilian enviroments).

Also the films would have to be laden with facist dictatorship ideals and actually gloriying genocide and xenophobia and trying to come off as completely serious about it. Something no one in hollywood would actually have the balls to do...

I think it was time for a Halo movie a couple of years ago. The games have been steadily getting more and more unpopular and what with Bungie supposedly stopping after Reach (last I heard, I might be wrong), they are running out of time. If they can't release a film before or shortly after the release of Reach then it will likely be past the time anyone cared. Unfortunately if they do attempt to make it in that time it'll probably be rushed and turn out terrible (that is assuming it was going to be good if not rushed, but I don't want to get people started on that). Probably their best bet is to wait and see if Bungie makes another trilogy and then make it. That would also give them time to sort out who in the movie business cares enough to make it.

Personally, I'm curious enough to want to see a Halo movie (and I liked the idea of someone from District 9 working on it, as someone mentioned, I saw that over the weekend, it was pretty good), however I really hope they decide not to show Chief's face, not because of any belief that it will ruin the series, but because I'm certain that so many fans of the series will have formed a mental picture of what he looks like that as soon as they show his face 90% of the audience will be outraged that he looks nothing like they imagined. I would have to avoid the internet for a decade just to keep away from all the whining, and then I know I'd still pass people in the street complaining about it. Anyway I almost never think of him as having a face, I just see the helmet, which is probably for the best.

True that, unfortunate though it is.

No, it will NEVER be time for a Halo movie. It should NEVER be time for a video game movie but Halo is right down at the dog shit bottom of the pile I'd ever want to see a film made of. Maybe the only one below it would be Metal Gear Solid. They would take and rape something I found myself enjoying and I would bet money on it being totally shit with a hastily thrown together story and maybe a new bad guy or two that would contradict the books or even the games. And then as if that wasn't enough they would make sequels of it.

Squeals of games of books turned into a movie, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP THIS MADNESS.

EDIT: Fuck it I'm back for round 2.

It would be the same watery grey paste the video games companies have been shovelling down our throats for years now. I'm sick of world war 2 games, Sick of the halo/anything with aliens and space marines genre. I'm pissed off with the endless sequels to the same shit, over and over and over. Looking down my list of games for the PS3 I have about 2 original games. A couple more for the 360. The rest have a big ol' number slapped on the side of it, or directly rip off something else. Please, a Halo movie would truly be the death of all originality.

Hollywood and the video games market need to have a fucking divorce and go back to going separate ways. with new ideas needed for both sets of the entertainment market.

we all want Master Chief in it
actually thats the last thing we want/need. The movie needs to be like Halo 3: ODST. It needs to about the normal marines and ODSTs fighting the battles we never saw in the games. And it needs to be like the commercial, live action instead of fully CG.

I know so many people are skeptical but I honestly think that with proper funding and Jackson/Blomkamp at the wheel it could be the first truly great videogame movie.
He said he wants Master Chief IN it, not necessarily as the main character.
That's still a bad idea imo.

It's on hold. Announced one day after IMDB updated.

Of course, now that Neil Blomkamp has kicked ass with District 9 the execs might be feeling slightly more enthusiastic and things could pick up again.
Or they'll change director. Which would suck.

No it isn't.It was abandoned for a truly good film.DISTRICT 9.
Why would we want a film on a game which had a generic plot to begin with?

with like 16 hours of cut scene, you said it. I sat there... And watched it all... And I'm a stronger man for it.

Once again I really am opposed to the people who would call Halo a clone of Starship Troopers. Because it is worth noting 'clone' means 'identical' and I'm pretty sure if you put the two plots up side by side there are some very noticeable differences.
Frankly as I've said before the overarching story line is actually quite descent and if put into the right context then I say YES we can make a good movie out of this. The question as to whether this is a good time remains a little hard though. After all there are still a lot of harsh judgements about the franchise which could cause bias towards the film and unfair judgement. Plus people have to make a film that will appeal to all audiences not just the Halo fans which means some of the ideas like say, the Arbiter have a risk of getting scrapped because mainstream audiences still want the 'alienz iz bad' and I think the loss of the Arbiter would be a tragedy.
I say we let it sit for a while until this becomes a less turbulant issue. But I just wanted to say, there is a detailed story that was lightly touched upon in some cases so a director could spin it their own way while still embedded in the established canon, there is a big very deep universe and frankly, the style and theme of the series is a strong one. So I say if done right Halo could prove a masterpiece. But as it is my favourite franchise I would demand nothing less and indeed so would most people.
Honestly sometimes it's better just to keep them as video games.
