So guys, I just want an opinion here. My friends have been nagging me for the last month or so to get an Xbox 360 so we can play online together. I already have a PS3, but I have another friend who's offering to sell his Xbox to me for £100. Should I accept this or should I just wait for the next generation of consoles to come out?

Well, personally, I'd go for it! I mean, sure next gen consoles are coming out in the next year or so, but they'll be over-priced and lack games. So, it'll be years until I buy one, anyhow.

If ya get a 360, you'll have access to a good catalogue and be able to play with your mate(s)!

[sub]I recommend 'Alan Wake', not a multiplayer game but pretty fantastic. Ignore this if ya have it on PC.[/sub]

He might have a gaming pc, there's room in people's lives for more than 1 or 2 gaming systems.

Personally I wouldn't bother. £100 is a pretty good price but buying second hand 360s is a risky game. You have to add a subscription to XBL on top of that price too. Plus you don't really know if you'll enjoy games enough to actually play them often. Maybe it'll be worth it if you find that you love playing online on the Xbox and use it all the time, but if you're not that interested then it would be a waste. We will probably see the next Xbox out next autumn/winter anyway, so I would hold off.

What game(s) do you want to play with your friend over x-box? Also, does your friend have any other platforms to play on? Personally, getting an x-box for the sole reason of playing a game with a friend is not justified enough. Granted, I am also pretty stingy these days. I'd look at how mush you think you will get out of this purchase. Will your friend be activly available to play? Will they move on to another game/platform in 2 months? Are there other games you will play on the X-box?

I'm just going to assume that is meant with good humour. :)

OT: Not sure OP, depends how often you and your friends will play, also take the Xbox Live payments into account. You might turn out to be the opposite (kinda) of me, using my Xbox 360 and my PC primarily, to talk and play with friends whilst my PS3 sits lonely in the corner.

No because you'd still have to pay for a membership to be able to go online and play with your friends. Besides most games are multiplat so unless you're into the 4 exclusives each console has you don't really need both.

You're cute.
OT: As a 360 owner, I'd say that unless you really like your friends or a bunch of exclusives that are mainly shooters, hold off.

I'm not. I think he's another refugee from that bottomless pit of shame, the Console-VS-PC War. Always endless because there is no superior ever in that race or it would be decided already by the people selling either product.

OT: If you can afford to go after another console, go ahead. X-Box isn't bad as far as consoles go. It's just not my preferred gaming platform, as I am a PS3 user. No biggie.

It's not a bad price if the console is in very good condition and you really, really want to play online with your friends right now. If the games themselves or the XBLA subscription or your friends' gaming habits make you think that you'd play once or twice and quit, then it's not worth it.

I'd say go for it.

Even if you don't end up gaming online with those friends as you don't enjoy the titles they're playing, you'll be sure to find others with similar interests plus you'll have access to a ton of new Arcade games and exclusives. I see no reason not to unless you're broke.

Your "friend" is trying to rip you off.

You can get them cheaper than that at GAME.

Even cheaper on Amazon.

An extra £50 would net you a brand sparkly new one....

Now slap your "friend" for trying to con you.

I hate the "pledge of allegiance", mainly because it's pretty expensive.

You have to decide if you want to play for a subscription or not. To me it's that simple.

Sure, this isn't the perfect time to post it or anything, because Jim Sterling's video caused no fallout at all.

Sure, why not? Since you're getting it for so cheap and XBL monthly fees aren't really that expensive, I'd say go for it!

Watch the latest Jimquisition

And the end of the latest ZP.

Yeah, that guy reminds me more of the dude in the ZP video.

The next generation won't be around for a while yet, I suspect, so on that account I'd go ahead with it.
The only real question is how much playing with your friends is worth to you. There's also the matter of the specific games in question. If buying the Xbox also means buying a game again, just for a different system, I'd be hesitant. Pros and cons, etc.

I'd say go for it, as far as getting a 360 is concerned. Say we happen to get a new console announcement at the next E3, even then you are going to get at least a years worth of play out of it.

Oh, and you should send Greg Waller a message telling him how much fun you're having playing on your 360 with your friend. I know he'd just love that.

With rumors of a new generation on the horizon, personally I'd just save your money for the time being. With no idea how much the next generation is going to cost initially, every little bit 'o' cash will probably help in the end.

(Though in my personal opinion you should just hold on to your cash until the next cycle of consoles hits the market and buy a new gaming PC with the money you've saved. Heck, it's what I'm planning to do).

If you get one, get a current-gen one. Better off with a 15% failure rate than a 54% failure rate.

So really, there has never been a better time to buy a 360.
