Well you already have a PS3, unless you have a crippling need to pay for online then don't bother. And the next generation isn't as near as everyone would have you believe.

You can get a broken 360 off ebay (an old red ring of death, pre-HDMI model), for about £20 if you are lucky.
Then find and use a Red Ring of Death repair kit. (Loads of guides online)

My Dad does it all the time.

EDIT: Once you got one, getting games on the cheap is normally quite easy. Get pre-owned stuff (unless it has a multiplayer code, then you might find it new for cheap on Amazon, or ShopTo ect.).

CEX and Ebay are quite good sometimes. I suggest to browse around for the best price.

Also if the 360 breaks for some other reason, you haven't lost much money then.
(Sometimes its the paste by the way. But when its something else, you are better off getting another cheap xbox and fixing it)

EDIT 2: That being said though, there is not much special to the 360 these days, especially since you already have a PS3.

Might be better to save up for next gen, or a nice portable, or even a decent spec PC.
(I'm trying to save for a PC, but I keep getting stuff for my PSP and 3DS! XD)

I'm just going to assume that is meant with good humour. :)
I'm not. I think he's another refugee from that bottomless pit of shame, the Console-VS-PC War. Always endless because there is no superior ever in that race or it would be decided already by the people selling either product.
Watch the latest Jimquisition

And the end of the latest ZP.

Yeah, that guy reminds me more of the dude in the ZP video.
It's probably the same guy.

As a man who owns a Wii, X360, PS3, iMac and a very capable PC laptop, I'd say "no".

Of all consoles I own (including SNES, PSOne, PS2 and X-BOX), I've never had more problems and frustration than with my X360. Honestly, I've even had more fun with my Wii.

And as for a gaming PC... I kind of think it's childish. Once you have a very capable computer (whether it runs on OS X or Windows is your choice), you get much more satisfaction in using that hardware to do more constructive things than playing video games. I think it's a waste, really... Why put all that money in a rig to play some shooter on it's highest settings, when you could learn digital painting, audio-visual post-production, 3D modelling and sculpting?

I'm onto your game. I know that you're really a console owning scrub and are just pretending to be overly contrarian and elitist to give us members of the glorious PC gaming master race a bad name.

Stop it.

wait wait wait. your "friend" trying to sell you that 360 is probably looking to use that money to buy the 720 when it comes out. So just deal with your friends' nagging for a year, and get the 720 when it comes out. And why is this thread turning into a pc vs console argument again?

OP, how much do you like hearing prepubescent children vomit forth the most vile, disgusting, hate-filled shit you'll ever hear outside of a hospital for syphilitic whores and sailors in Mozambique? Because that's what xbox live is. The beauty part is, you have to pay for the pleasure of being exposed to this garbage.
If you just want to play games with friends, totally worth it. Waiting isn't, as Microsoft hasn't even confirmed their next generation yet so it'll be a bit.

The closer an end to the console run the better it is to buy. Games and accessories tend to be generally lower in price, though it may require a bit of hunting to fill your library.

I can't say I find a new console generation worth any real consideration. Besides, it's not like they'll dump the old systems the moment the new consoles launch.

Wait it out, friend. "Used Xbox" can often mean "abused Xbox", so it is best to play it safe.

Best option is to do that

Consider that if you want to play multiplayer you're looking at at least $50 for the next year in xbox live costs.

I actually had this dilemma myself (If a little different, I don't have a PS3 or an XBOX 360, I only have my good ol' PC), and considering how close we seem to be to generation change, I decided to just wait for the next generation.

So, I'd say just stick with what you've got till the PS4/NextBox 360 comes out. Maybe you'll buy those, maybe you'll actually buy a 360 then at a madly reduced price.

Sadly, you're probably right...

Why can't people just enjoy all of them.

Nah just wait I reckon, the 360 doesn't have nearly enough worthwhile exclusives to warrant it.

Don't do it. Buy a new one.

The Xbox 360 is great. It has great games. You probably won't see a new console until Christmas 2013 at least.

HOWEVER! It is pretty shittily made, so you're going to want a warranty.

I would grab it honestly. Xbox live Gold sucks in that you have to pay for it but maybe your friends are close enough so as to make LAN-parties a doable idea. Even aside from that there are a back-log of games for the console that are on the cheap now which you may have missed out on as a PS3 owner like Viva Pinata, the Halo series and...The Gears of War series...I guess...
