Go ahead and get it. It's not like the first year and a half or so of a new console is when it's really worth it to get it. Let it come down in price and up in quality, first. In the meantime, why not get a 360?

[sarcasm]Keep your PS3, force your 'friend' to buy a PS3, because it's superior [/sarcasm]

Seriously though, I wouldn't do it.

Often times, a little red flag goes up when I see something used. There's a reason behind that. Maybe it's abused- that's a possibility, and he may as well just be selling it in preparation for the next generation. My advice would be to follow in his footsteps.

As a man who owns a Wii, X360, PS3, iMac and a very capable PC laptop, I'd say "no".

Of all consoles I own (including SNES, PSOne, PS2 and X-BOX), I've never had more problems and frustration than with my X360. Honestly, I've even had more fun with my Wii.

And as for a gaming PC... I kind of think it's childish. Once you have a very capable computer (whether it runs on OS X or Windows is your choice), you get much more satisfaction in using that hardware to do more constructive things than playing video games. I think it's a waste, really... Why put all that money in a rig to play some shooter on it's highest settings, when you could learn digital painting, audio-visual post-production, 3D modelling and sculpting?
And why can't we do both? I know I do. I use my pimped-out rig for both 3D animating and video-games.

OT: Nah, you should really save your money. Not worth it, especially if you have to buy the same games just on another console. So you can play with your friends.

Just save your money for the next generation, which won't really come any time soon, but it'll give you even more time to save money.

That depends entirely on what model of Xbox it is, if you're getting the controllers and headset with it and some games. Because an Xbox for £100, on it's own, this close to next gen, is a total rip off.

Grow up. It's people like you that give us (PC gamers) a bad name.

I think that's a new record for a PC elitist comment.
OT: At this point you might as well wait since you'll probably have to buy more than one 360 if your buying second hand not to mention the cost of a XBL subscription.

Seems like a poor choice to me, unless games like Halo and Gears are what you are really into. Other than those, you aren't going to see much difference than what you get from owning the PS3. Your best bet is a gaming PC if you're looking for something new.

I made the mistake of buying a Xbox 360 while having a perfectly functional gaming PC. It's been sitting in a closet for years now.

Yes, my gaming PC is leaps and bounds above that 360.

I would say no, for two reasons. The first being that you can get a refurbished console for as low as $75 but the other reason is were probably only looking at one more year till the next console generation comes out

I suppose it depends on what games you're playing together.

..or you could fight the battle and pressure your friend to get a PS3.

Buying a console just because my friend is begging me to is not a good enough reason for me.

Get over yourself. What if they want to play multiplayer just between then and don't want to both buy really expensive PC's?

OT: I'd probably try get a less cheap, but new one. As others have said, used xbox's can be risky.

I have been duped by the old "Spent X money for X thing so we can play together" to many times.

Its not worth spending money on, spend your money making YOUR gaming experience better not your friends, unless multiplayer really is your thing but based on the pressure from you friends I'm guessing its not in which it will be fun for a while but it will take to much from your other gaming and by the time you catch up to their skill or level they will most likley be moving on to the next thing (this was my experience). Plus multiplayer is nothing but an ego trip for narcissistic gamers anyway IMO.

Also its just to late in this run to be making a purchase, save the money for the next gen and then bug your friends to buy consoles so they can play with you instead.

Or be like me and just spend the money on PC games and ignore the next gen of consoles :)

Hope that helps.

Online together? Go for it. I've racked up hours of game-time on Reach, a fantastic multiplayer game.

Wait it out, friend. "Used Xbox" can often mean "abused Xbox", so it is best to play it safe.
I never thought of it like that. Cheers!

UK 360 / PC owner here

Imo the 360 is abit of a double edged sword when it comes to online multiplayer, the most popular games in mainstream genres like shooters, sports & racers it's quite easy to find a game. However many games that arn't your big hitters are petty much dead not long after launch, especially XBLA games.

It all depends on what games you want to play and what your friends play and how many ppl you need to play a game, if just want to play Fifa with your pals then sure go for it, or if theres a comunity group that likes to play games together at the same time of the day as you're online, jump at the chance, although it could turn out to be expensive if they are always playing new games.

About that 360 (without knowing what sort of 360 and accessories are with it) it really doesn't seem to be "mates prices" more like he/she is taking advantage of your friendship to charge a premium. Only way i'ld buy that was if its the Slim 250GB model and the pads weren't wore out and I was quite sure it was in good nick and tested the disk drive out with a game that isn't installed to HD.

So guys, I just want an opinion here. My friends have been nagging me for the last month or so to get an Xbox 360 so we can play online together. I already have a PS3, but I have another friend who's offering to sell his Xbox to me for £100. Should I accept this or should I just wait for the next generation of consoles to come out?
No. Its not just a Xbox 360, its a used Xbox 360. I wouldnt advise buying any kind of used console.

Instead of being an elitist or giving suggestions which are unconnected, I'd say if you can find a cheap 360 from a store, get it from there instead. As has been pointed out by someone already, you want a warranty with your console (My own broke down the week before the 3 year warranty ran out, was pretty lucky as it meant I got a new one).

Also if you buy it from a friend and it breaks down after 2 months, that's gonna be pretty awkward between you and your friend. Though I guess if they're giving you their games with the console then it's not as bad a deal.
