Is it weird to fancy a game character?

You have to remember this when it comes to anime/video game characters:

What people are attracted to is NOT the pixels, it's the concept. They wouldn't 'go' for that character if it appeared in real life, because in the end the graphics of it are just that - graphics. People are attracted to the concept of that character transposed into the form of a real person, and it's the willing suspension of disbelief makes this possible.

Edit: So no, you're not weird. Unless you're after the pixels.

What the OP described is not unusual at all. There's a reason that so many female game characters wear armor that only covers about 10% of their body. Anything beyond liking them as eye candy is rarer, but still happens.

I suppose it depends which character you like. Some characters, I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy, are obviously designed to be appealing to the other sex. If you fancy the guy from Manhunt then you're probably a little weird. That being said, I wouldn't have thought that Ezio was designed to appeal to women - I think he's probably designed to appeal, in a heterosexual way, to men.
Women are attracted to tough guys? Stop the presses!!!

EDIT: correcting a derpy typo.

(I'm a dude) Female shep is quite a woman, which is weird because it's the player, and she does what I say, which makes her a reflection of myself....

I need to stop playing females o_O

If it's Kratos then I'd be worried about abusive relationships.

Otherwise it's perfectly natural to fancy fictional characters, they're pretty much designed and aimed at generating some kind of emotional response, to immerse you in them and thus the game world. It would be strange if "fancy" couldn't be one of those feelings.

It's no stranger than thinking a movie character has sex appeal/elates an emotional response. Just remember they're ultimately fictional, and getting invested in them is no problem.

I, a lad, recall the day when I was an even smaller lad who liked Lara Croft (Probably the first videogame character who had a face that I saw, it was a good face being the PS2 era reboot, I am fairly young).

OT: I don't really crush on video game characters or admire their bodies or anything anymore but when crafting a girl character to play in a RPG I will generally make her pretty for what it's worth. But even thats dependant on what kind of character I'm playing, it's just so much more fun to skip across the wastes in Fallout 3 in a pink summer dress with a chinese rifle on your back. ^_^
I can understand attraction and I could understand fantasising over a character. Perfectly natural and I'd be a little more weirded out by people completely unable to grasp the concept.

I think liara from ME:1 is hot as her character is shy and innocent but her character changes as the game progressed. Then mass effect 2 made her scary but they released that shodow broker DLC which I need to buy!

No, it's not strange. They're based after real people, whom you should be attracted to.

Just don't date them, Futurama had that episode for a reason.

Why is it that every question that has ever been asked can be answered by a Futurama referance?

Video game writers go through a lot of trouble to help you think of the people on the screen as people, the same as any movie, book or television characters, and naturally some of them will be attractive to you either because of looks or personality or both. It's not at all weird... just so long as you know they are not nor will they ever be real. You can not attain them, marry them ect. At the most they should inspire you to go out and meet somebody with their qualities, the qualities you find attractive anyhow obviously, which in your case means you are shopping for an Italian murderer.

Hell no it's not weird! I find John Marston really hot...hence the avatar (I'm a girl too). You're not alone!

Saying it wouldn't hurt, but if you go beyond fandom to show it (i.e. pretending to marry him/her), then it would be a problem.

My sister doesn't even play video games and when she saw me playing AC2 she asked me "who's the hottie" - referring to Ezio of course. So I guess it's perfectly normal. I like the new Lara Croft looks.
