Is it wrong to let your dog sleep in your bed?

We taught our dog to sleep at the edge of the bedroom and not come in, mostly because she's the kind of dog who likes to trot over when she sees you up kissing and sit down next to you with a big "Hey guys, watcha doing?" look. There's times when that's cute, and there's times when you don't really feel like being interrupted*

BTW, cooking for your dog isn't really that weird if you're making dog food. I know a lot of trainers who have their own formulations for their competition dogs. But if you're making human food, it's a waste of time and often isn't good for the dog.






*(like when you're watching a Netflix movie in bed, what did you guys think I meant?)

This made me really laugh. My cat sleeps in my bed regularly, especially during winter, and I often felt like he's allowing me in his bed and not the opposite.

Exactly. Gotta love the fact that something that weighs like, 5 lbs can have that kind of commanding attitude.

But yeah, I agree with the basic premise there's not really a problem with your pet sleeping with you.

No, it's not wrong to let ur dog sleep on your bed. It's a little odd that she cooks for the dog though, they make a whole range of cold, ready-to-eat dog foods for her to choose from. But no, letting your dog sleep on your bed isn't weird.

If your dog feels comfortable sleeping on your bed and doesn't have fleas, go for it. It sounds to me like your friends were more disturbed about the "treating a dog like a person" thing in general, which I can't blame them for. It disturbs me, too. Look, I love animals just as much as the next person, but when old ladies bring their purse dogs into my Starbucks and get offended when I tell them they can't bring them in, then we've got a problem. People who let their dogs eat at the table and put air conditioning in a dog house are just going WAY overboard with "man's best friend."

In the end, they're still just animals, and they need boundaries.

Generally making your dog food won't cover the dietary requirement. You could however look up those requirements and make a extremely healthy dog food, or you might decide to feed your dog rat poison which would be extremely bad.

It's NOT weird...

My dog has many allergies to certain dog foods and gets crazy diarreah when he eats 'dog treats'. So he never gets to eat anything fun for dogs So when I am cooking dinner for myself, I will give him a piece of cooked meat (not seasoned or anything) and that serves as a dog treat that wont harm his tummy.

Also, my two dogs sleep with me when my BF is not home Otherwise, they sleep in the closet underneath my long pants!

This was a topic on one of my local radio station's early-morning talk shows. I believe that it's fine to let your dog/cat sleep in the same bed as you as long as they are not under the sheets.

Every time I visit my parents, our dog tries to spend all of her time with me. Last night, she was afraid of the fireworks so she came into my bedroom and curled up next to me. Once they stopped, she slept at the foot of the bed. I see absolutely no harm in this, and having a beloved pet to snuggle with is quite comforting. It's no different than a dog sleeping next to you on the couch.

Just wanted to make it clear, I for myself don't cook for my tomcat but my uncle did for the dogs he professionally trained

It's not wrong to let a dog sleep on the bed. Some dogs are very sociable and can't settle down when they're left all alone, some may have been taken away from their litter-mates too soon, and some may have come from previous owners who mistreated them to learn that being alone is bad. Or some owners just like to have that warm spot at their feet in case they get cold.

Either way, some animals make more of a fuss by being forced to sleep somewhere else and letting them sleep on/near the bed will silence most, if not all, crying for attention. No to mention you can more quickly see if they've done something bad, rather than stumbling across it some time later.

It's actually not a good idea. Later on it could cause separation anxiety and they may not be able to grasp hierarchy that quickly. Similar to eating habits, you can't let them eat first.

There was a show I saw somewhere that addressed dog foods. In the end, you could boil down old leather shoes, add random oil, then mix in sawdust and it would meet the requirements for protein, oil, and fiber content. For all the pretty pictures shown on dog food bags, the actual ingredients can be little better than rejected bits of meat, vegetables, and other things that the average human body can't process without a lot of difficulty. Cat food, however, has higher standards for some reason...

I'd say that cooking your own dog food would be better since you don't have to worry quite as much about the food being tainted somewhere on the way to the shelves and being left with nothing if everything gets recalled.

My sister has always slept with her dogs underneath her tits and everything. The rest of us would never let the dog on our bed, but we don't mind that she does. Right now she has a kitten and a dog, and they probably sleep on her bed. I haven't been to her house in a while, so I don't know.

I have a dachshund, I really don't have a choice. Once they find a sleeping place they like they will never give it up. Same thing with my three cats, <_< now there isn't enough room on the bed for me.
