Its probably a lot more ethical than what some other people do with their horses..
Some people get all upity about this kind of stuff, "killing any animal is wrong!" Ya, well after my state got rid of some horse processing plant because of these 'ethics', rather than having horses being sold and humanely put down, you wind up with an epidemic of horses starving to death and being forced into the wild. without the horse processing plant to sell horses to, the price of horses also dramatically dropped, allowing people who severely lack the financial means to take care of a horse to be able to buy a horse, only to let it slowly starve to death, which dramatically added to the epidemic. Its like the backwords logic that animal hoarders use...
but this is all beside the point. i don't know what the laws are on putting a healthy animal down. frankly, I assume that as long as its done in a humane way its probably legal

Gotta go with what everyone else is saying. Why kill it when you could sell it or donate it?
I am sure there are plenty of places that would take a free horse and killing it for no reason is just disgusting.
lol you'd be surprised at just how few homes there are for horses, even free horses. You'd be amazed at how many horses slowly starve to death because their owners can't afford to feed them and can't find any home to give them, despite desperately searching. and in reality, even a free horse is quite expensive, as a horse eats over $100 in hay every month, plus all the other expenses such as boarding, vet costs, etc.
