as you may know, suda51 made a game called lollipop chainsaw. it involves a skimpily dressed teen girl killing zombies iwith a chainsaw. she looks pretty much what a drugged up hooker that played basketball would look like. her legs are so long, shes probably taller than 7 ft., and here mini skirt is so short, it might as well be a strip of cloth. it looks stupid, and it makes us look stupid. to prove this, in one point, a person she saves says "i never thought id be saved by someone with such great tits!!" i mean seriously, it makes our industry look stupid, and childish. what do you guys think? do games like this tarnish our already stained image?

P.S., i did not buy this, i just watched videos by people with the same complaint as i, showing the part ive referenced to.

No, they do not.

If someone looks at LPC and thinks that gaming is lesser for it, they never thought well of gaming to begin with. It's an incredibly stupid way to look at an entire industry. LPC did not convince them that the industry was childish; they thought the industry was childish already and are just using this as a convenient poster-child.

I don't think that the movie industry is a bunch of horned up children because Piranha 3DD exists. I don't think books are nothing but girlish fantasies because Twilight is a book. Same applies here to anyone willing to use their brain for a few seconds.

Nope. I think the game looks pretty poor, but it's simply one game. If you define the game industry by a single game then you have to do the same with other forms of entertainment media. Should all music be judged on Justin Bieber? Should all movies be judged on The Transformers? Should all books be judged on Twilight?

Certainly there are some people who would judge all of videogames based on Lollipop Chainsaw, but are those the type of people who's opinions you value in the first place?

I agree with Tippy. Also I'd like to add that if your worried about this game changing the mindset of the entire industry don't be. Only the best games affect design choices in future games(ie: Halo made all the other shooters use regenerating health)

I agree with Tippy here. That's how it works with every form of art and entertainment. You take the good ones with the bad. If we based our opinions off of the worst an industry can make, then no one would look good.

If I was to say the book industry is stupid because of the sudden onslaught of paranormal teen thrillers to suddenly hit the shelsf, I would be doing an injustice to myself and the book industry.

If you are going to form your opinion on an industry based on only one single piece from the thousands of titles in the library, then you are one shallow minded person. Do I think LPC is immature, yes. but I don't think it's going to destroy the gaming cultures image.

It's suda51. Were you expecting something other than uber-violence and sexual humor?

Honestly, you can thing this sort of thing in any medium. Expecting every game to be a pristine intellectual diamond is just silly.

This game is made to be a mockery and joke like scary movie, do yourself a favor and do not take it seriously and take it at face value. I would try it because it might be fun and funny as a satire game. Not everything has to be serious.

Wow. Just... wow. I would like to present you with the modified MST3K mantra: It's just a game, you should really just relax.

Firstly, Lollipop Chainsaw is very obviously a game that is not meant to be taken seriously. It is built to run on absurdity, not to be a cultural commentary on how a woman should look and act. It's a silly game where a goth kid summoned up foul mouthed punk rocker zombies, and this cheerleader (who is part of an ancient zombie killing clan) gives them what for with a chainsaw and rainbow and heart based special attacks. It's fun for fun's sake. Yes, the humor is a bit fratty, but if that's not your thing, don't play the game.

Secondly, "Do these games tarnish our already stained image?" Really? Did the American Pie series degrage the reputation of film everywhere? Did the "Movie" movies ruin the movie industry? No. They were silly, frat-humor centric, films that the people who didn't like them ignored, and the people who did like them watched. Same for Lollipop Chainsaw. I could maybe, maybe see your point if all gamers everywhere were holding up this game as the messiah of games that could never again be equalled, because that would be a reaction from the gaming community and therefore would actually be reflective of the community. But they aren't. All the publication of Lollipop Chainsaw shows is that a silly, rude, and quite possibly fun to play game got published.

So can we please, please, stop the reactionary insanity and take Lollipop Chainsaw for what it is rather than claiming it's some kind of commentary on what the gaming community as a whole likes?

KTHX.

Nah, it'd only be a problem if people took games seriously to begin with.

Seriously, though, it's rather unfair that society tends to condemn the gaming community for being dominated by stereotypical maladjusted basement dwelling manchilds. Not that they are necessarily wrong, but the same applies to more or less everything else. Moviegoers get a free pass on Michael Bay, for example.

Oh, piss off does it.
It's a stupid game for some stupid fun and people who take this kind of stuff seriously need to remove the 50 sticks they have stuck up their arses. (No offence.)
The worst thing the game does for the gaming media as a whole is be a short game. I for one cannot wait for it to go down in price so it doesn't feel like I'm wasting £30 on a short game.

I didn't know Suda51 made Lollipop Chainsaw. Shows how long I've been under this rock here. Suda makes some hilariously awesome games.

*Adds Lollipop Chainsaw to 'to-buy' list*

Suda 51? Nah, you lost it.
Suda 51 makes fun games that bank on absurdity and shock. He's a little like Monty Python.

You know what makes the industry look stupid and childish, the notion that the only thing gamers want is gray brown sequels to samey cover based shooters.
That combined with the fact that when we do get something colorful and different people claim it's "Bastardizing our Industry" That's a lot worse then a game where you play a zombie slashing cheer leader in a short skirt.

Your first mistake was taking a Suda51 game so seriously.

Ever play/see No More Heroes? Same kind of humor there too. And lo! The industry-nay-the world still goes on!!!

Yes, this.

Plus, Lollipop chainsaw is clearly intentionally silly.
I don't think the line "I never thought I'd be saved by someone with such great tits" is one that you would take seriously unless you're wearing some serious gaming-demonizing glasses.
Particularly when suda51, a developer notorious for making silly games is behind the game, I'd be hard pressed to see this as a disturbing symptom of the trends in gaming.

Hell, I'd be inclined to take the game as a satire on gaming trends before an example of them.

Well, it fits into a parody genre that isn't supposed to be taken seriously in terms of artistic merit or whatever.
When you think of films as an art form, you don't think about pornos, B-movie parodies or those kind of things, you think about emotional and high-quality films. Just like when you think about how great games can be you think of Journey or something very immersive instead of these kind of games.

[HEADING=1]*sigh*[/HEADING]

I remember a time when people used to just play video games and not worry about shit like this. Why does everything have to be all "deep and meaningful to the industry as a whole?" Are you so concerned about the gaming "image" that you need to make games purely made for wacky fun an issue where there clearly isn't one to be had?

Lollipop Chainsaw is what it is. Who the hell CARES if it "bastardizes" the so called "overall message of gaming."

[sub]Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the only people who just plays video games, and doesn't try to fucking mentally analyze every game that comes out for some "hidden meaning" or some shit like that.[/sub]
