It's made by James Gunn. Of course it bastardizes the industry, James Gunn is the God Emperor of Hipster Douchebags, he's like a Scott Pilgrim comic that became sentient and decided to wipe out it's creators in revenge for its tortured existence. What did you expect?

Don't even get me started on the human Trollface that is Dusha 51.

Yeah I insulted Suda 51, bring it internet.
*Gasp* How dare you insult two content creators that I have never met and have no reason to defend?! You dare sir? HAVE AT THEE! *pulls out spoon and takes up a fencing stance*

I never gave a shit about Lollipop Chainsaw, except for a brief looking-into when I heard Tara Strong plays the protagonist.

But really, who cares? Games like Lollipop Chainsaw are the B-movies and pulp novels of video games. Some people enjoy them because they provide the experience that they're specifically looking for without any pretense at being deep or meaningful. Their presence doesn't tarnish the industry, they just exist to be consumed and forgotten within a year. Except for when they're occasionally revisited by those who never got around to selling them to Gamestop.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of games that are brightly-colored and flashy. I prefer more emphasis on story, especially customized character development in WRPGs. But just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's ruining the industry. That would be pretentious of me.

as you may know, suda51 made a game called lollipop chainsaw. it involves a skimpily dressed teen girl killing zombies iwith a chainsaw. she looks pretty much what a drugged up hooker that played basketball would look like. her legs are so long, shes probably taller than 7 ft., and here mini skirt is so short, it might as well be a strip of cloth. it looks stupid, and it makes us look stupid. to prove this, in one point, a person she saves says "i never thought id be saved by someone with such great tits!!" i mean seriously, it makes our industry look stupid, and childish. what do you guys think? do games like this tarnish our already stained image?

P.S., i did not buy this, i just watched videos by people with the same complaint as i, showing the part ive referenced to.
You... haven't seen No More Heroes, have you? Or Shadows of the Damned? Or Killer7?

Yeah, Suda51 is kind of known for this type of ridiculous, over-the-top campy type of absurd.

One of the bosses in No More Heroes 2 is literally a Loli girl with what's essentially half of a Transformer strapped to her back.

Frankly, despite the game being deliberately aimed at 15 year old boys, this game doesn't feel as insulting as say, Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball.

Yeah, it's creepy the way the game sexualized a high school minor, but I don't even pay attention to that. At the end of the day its about a Buffy-parody carving through hordes of zombies with a chainsaw, fighting crazy music-themed undead bosses, and dealing with the relationship problems suffered by a cheerleader and her boyfriend's severed head. I wasn't walking into this expecting Shakespeare, but at least she's not a smug, mincing, "dealing death with one hand while stifling a yawn with the other" douchebag like Bayonetta or Dante.

How many times do I have to see this question asked and how many times do I have to reply with a resounding no for the same reasons stated in this thread?

Yes, every game which is created without intellectual merit diminishes the sense that the medium is about intellectual merit to some extent. Same as every dumb action movie does to it's medium, same as every similar book does to it's medium, same as every less educated or intelligent person does to their species, but you have to have the mind of a supervillian to believe this is an inherently bad thing; intellectual merit is not the only important thing in life.

Also, could one argue these games are providing juxtaposition for others perhaps? or even that the fact this kind of wacky game is getting more attention is partly due to it standing out more, and that therefor shows how much more sensible the medium has actually grown?

lmao

congratulations OP, you have totally and completely missed the point of Lollypop Chainsaw by several country miles.

why?

cause some people remember that video games are supposed to be fun, for no other reason then the sake of 'fun'. there's no 'deeper meaning' nor is it making games look worse, the movie industry has movies like this by the truck loads and their 'reputation' isn't tarnished.

the real issue is people like you taking games to seirusly, because they want games on the whole to be taken seirusly. hate to break this to you, but the 'mature' crap like God of War dose more damage to games credibility then Lollypop Chainsaw ever will

However trashy Lolipop Chainsaw appears at a glance; it is a tonne of fun when not taken seriously. And it pretty much makes itself impossible to take seriously; because the whole thing is all kinds of insane. It has some mature material, but it's a really upbeat game, glossed with a facade of naivety and fun-loving wackiness.

I haven't played LC, but I rather get the sense it's parodying the excesses of the genre and the medium as much as employing them.

lollipop chainsaw is not doing a thing for the industry. It's been released with minimal hype, it will sell a low ammount of copies, and it will be forgotten shortly.

I honestly can't even consider it a parody (in the sense that a parody has something subversive to say; this is more like a celebration). IMO there's just not enough method to its madness. It's a wacky japanese developer that has looked into American pop culture and ramped up the tropes and stereotypes to 11. It's also their unfamiliarity that's part of the fun.

There's a bit where the main character's older sister meets her boyfriend, (the head she wears on her belt) and has this weird kind of fascinated admiration of him being nothing more than a head, and how if she were like that: she could eat and it'd all just fall out of her neck. A kind of (from-the-outside-looking-in) wink at the pathology of thin western girl's anxiety about fat.

It's clearly not a game that is meant to be taken seriously..... judging all games based on this one would be like judging all movies based on zombieland. For the record, I think it looks kind of fun.

"do games like this tarnish our already stained image?"

No. People like you do.
At least play the game or look non-biased videos up before jumping on your high horse.
Have something of greater substance to say than just criticizing the looks of the main character because you sound like someone who just looked at screenshots, watched a minute of gameplay and just criticizes the very basic, superficial gist of the game that is mostly made up by you.

This game is downright artsy.

Is "girls gone wild" or "Sperm Overload 2" bastardizing the film industry? no they are just one film out of thousands and do not represent the whole industry, the same with lollipop chainsaw

Sounds like someone is taking the game a bit too seriously. It's a girl in a cheerleader outfit fighting zombies with a chainsaw.

It's like trying to take a game centering around a boy made out of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend who's made out of bandages from a fetus with a robot body seriously. It just doesn't work.

Somehow i thought the game was supposed to be an interactive parody about modern life or American high school life. I'm only slightly annoyed by the gritty graphics and some of the songs. Other than that it's just a short parody that isn't to be taken seriously.

Oh no, video games are looking stupid and childish. Oh dear god.

I'll be honest, when I saved a guy, and all he had to say was "My favorite president is Warren G Harding!" I laughed my ass off.
