TL;DR: In all seriousness, that's the deal breaker for me. A camera/microphone that's always on standby or in use within my primary location(My living room is where I eat/game/study/general living). I simply can't accept that and I won't.
That was just rumor, MS already replied you can turn Kinect completely off
By completely turning off the system. That's like explaining that you can turn off your reading lamp if you flip the breaker switch in the garage but that it has to be on if you're going to use any other appliances.
Or pressing the off-button instead of the stand-by button

Do you think that will be an option in the software or will you have to walk over to the box itself to hold the button down. There certainly won't be two different buttons though, that'd be wasteful. It'll be the same button and the difference will likely be the duration with which you press it. But if you're like me and most other modern console owners you turn your device on or off with the controller, not the buttons on the box.

All my devices have two buttons or just the one with two functions. Press it once for standby, hold it down for a few seconds for off. My phone works that way. My TV has two buttons, an off button on the TV and a standby button on the remote, ...

I don't really think they are screwing up. If history has taught us anything the majority of gamers just don't care. Diablo III always online, everyone decries it...sells incredibly well. Boycott moderwarefare 2, sure thing! And look how many people from the boycott group are playing the game at launch. Tons of SimCity issues, don't worry people are buying it like hotcakes.
The thing is that no matter how many "fuck the Xbone" threads there are and no matter how much the internet kicks and screams in protest people will buy the Xbox One.
I sadly agree. I've heard (from a questionable source) that a chunk of Xbox 360 users don't even play games on their 360s. They just watch Netflix. If that's truly the case, then maybe turning their backs on us gamers won't even put much of a dent in their profits. Either way, screw them, if that's what they really intend to do.
yes it's really sad but this will happen. By buying the system as it stands they just enable Microsoft. These practices will become the standard and the consumer will suffer for it. Maybe I should say the gamer, console gamer anyway. Gamer isn't their main demographic

Judging from the images, it'll have exactly the same number of buttons as the 360. One for power, one for the disk drive.

Either way, having to go to the system itself to fully power off the system is just an additional hassel to throw on the pile, especially when the kinect has to be on any time the Xbone is on.

Can we all please stop the endless childish whining about backwards compatibility?

Just seems that we had a few consoles that did feature backwards compat. namely the PS2, PS3 (more or less) and the Wii (but only because the Wii is just a GameCube with motion controls in it's core) and now we expect every producer ever to incorporate it in their products. Why? I don't recall a global outrage when the SNES, NES, N64, GameCube, Sega.. etcetera.

Pretty much the decades before the 6/7th gen had limited or no backwards compat on followups with completely different hardware.
The issue now is much different. For one, they have marketed and sold digital downloads that are associated with your system. Two, games of the last generation were of very high quality. I would like to continue to play Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, XCOM, and many others, and it would be nice if everything could transfer to the new console. I understand the architechture prohibits this, but it is possible to have an add-on peripheral that would allow it. Third, I don't really foresee games of the next generation being that much of a leap than the previous one. Also, games are now a huge portion of the entertainment industry. Many would say it is the top; and I have a significant collection of games unlike the previous generation. I definately feel like backwards compatibility is important, and I respect and understand your opinion.
