I actually found it useful in COD4 multiplayer.

But I usually use it if I can't turn up my brightness ridiculously high.

What he said. You don't need night vision goggles.

No they don't. Cats can see well in the dark ;D
Hahahahhhhahahhahahahhahahahahqaha EPIC!

OT: Anyway, They were pretty useful in the R6V demos. I always used thermal instead.

They were priceless in Elder Scrolls: OBLIVION. Most missions took place in caves or subterranean ruins.

The AVP games.

Trust me, without night vision you will be:

1. Ripped to pieces by aliens
2. Orally raped by alien horseshoe crabs
3. Be reduced to a fine paste by a plasmacaster
4. Carved into Christmas goose by a rasta-samurai from outer space
5. Have an entire armory emptied into you by some camping son-of-a-***** marine in the dark who did remember to use night vision
6. Get *****-slapped across the face with an empty pulse rifle/knife

And many, many more...

Splinter Cell.
Rainbow Six Vegas.
Call of Duty 4 had a few segments.
Splinter Cell.
Riddick games.
Splinter Cell.
Oh, and not Oblivion and Morrowind, generally because there is always enough torches on the walls to let you see where you're going, and that usable torches are plentiful.

Stalker: Clear Sky's second generation night vision is extremely useful. If you're roaming the landscape during the night without it, you might as well just play Doom 3.
Just don't use the crappy first generation night vision.

Surprisingly, I use night vision in the Crysis games to spot enemies at long distance taking cover in the shade. The increased contrast definitely helps me to pick them off.

Also, as stated before, in Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell, Riddick, etc., night vision is very useful for normal reasons.

I don't mean thermal vision, where every enemy glows in an easy-to-spot aura, I mean that strange filter that turns everything on a dark level from a shade of blue to a shade of green.

I've never encountered a game where this mode makes anything easier to see, and was wondering if there were any out there.
lmfao was playing Halo the other day with samaritan.squirrel and my brother and the X button turns on my night vision, but my brother [having never played an x-box before] was experimenting with the buttons, and hit it on in a daylight level
he subsequently asked, with a note of panic in his voice "Why is there a button to blind myself???"

samaritan.squirrel an i were in stitches XD

When the developers of the game actually make several situations where they are helpful, then they are useful.

When the developers just tack it on as an after thought, it usually isn't.

That's kind of cheating. It's really cheap.

If I'm sneaking down a shadowy path, being really invisible, I'll be pissed to be seen by some guy with a high brightness setting.

Night vision can be useful, but it sometimes makes it harder for me to see anything.
Not cheating if everyone can do it, just saying.
