Not to say I don't care, but I'm kinda set on the mouse I linked. Looking at the G9x, I see what you're saying, but I just think I'll like the other better. I kinda wished you had actually argued your point rather than just saying, "Get this, look for a sale." I mean, it conveyed a point, but I had to look it up on my own to understand why you think this is a good mouse. I'm not saying this isn't a good mouse either, it looks damn good, and very similar to the one I linked, I think I just prefer the one I linked. Thanks, I will look at this one.
I did. Look up for my first post.

No, I mean the one where I talk about the shoddy quality of Razers.

Having a defunct mouse wheel doesn't sound so bad right? And honestly, its hilarious watching other people using it. But when you use it yourself? Absolutely maddening and seriously impacts productivity.

Oh, ok, I understand now. Sorry for the redundancy... I think i just lengthened this entire thread by four post or something over one thing completely off topic... I think that constitutes for a fail, you agree?

No problem. Everybody makes mistakes.

I have a Razer Deathadder, and honestly, I loved the mouse when it worked ( Vista business ).

But its defect drove me nuts ( 7 ultimate ) and seriously impacted my productivity, so I switched to a Logitech. No problems at all. Can you imagine trying to read a long document online when every muscle memory flick of the scroll wheel blasts you to a random place on the page, randomly going up and down in the same flick? All that randomly scrolling text makes your eyes water. Or drafting? You can never zoom in and out! Grrraaahhhhh! Hilarious to watch though.

Oh, I know this from experience, my four year old Logitech 5$ mouse does this. TBH, I don't blame Logitech, cause when you market a mouse for how cheap it is, don't expect an amazing product.

Just my tuppence:

I had a Razer some years ago, it was a Microsoft Habu in blue. Was about 5 years ago now.
I still have it and it still works. sometimes.
Was a fantastic mouse when I got it for 50 quid, and for the first few months it lived up to everything on the box.
But, after a while and what I would consider normal useage (for a gaming mouse) it started to get a bit buggy. The mouse would disconnect during use, usually at a critical point (just before that headshot on CSS) and I'd get that horrible "ding-dong" of windows telling me I had unplugged something.

Apparently I'm not the only one and apparently they haven't really fixed that issue, I've heard other bad things about build quality in general.

IMHO, if you want a good mouse that will last, try a Mionix Saiph. Got one for free with a PCGamer sub, it's served me well for over a year under heavy use. I think it's 3200DPI, a few extra buttons, on the fly sensetivity adjustment and a weight system. Cable is much more hefty and I like the feel of it.

Review here: http://xsreviews.co.uk/2011/02/mionix-saiph-3200/

Obviously if you're looking for > 3200, this wouldnt quite cut it but I've never had a problem with it, and I do alot of gaming - personally I'm not convinced that DPI matters that much when you're above a certain level.

The only other mouse I've used that I would recommend is a Sweex PS/2 optical mouse. Cost me 1.95 from Ebay, used it for 5 years, gave it to a friend who still has it. I must have fragged a thousand noobs with that thing, best buy ever.

EDIT: got the name of my mouse wrong. thought it was a copperhead for some odd reason... doh!

I bought the Razer Orochi and I love it. Its simple and moves beautifully. It also gives me the option to detach the cord and switch it to wireless when I'm not gaming. Haven't had any problems with it and I've been using it everyday for close to a year.

I had a top of the line razer for about 4 years ... now I'm back with Logitech, and I'm not changing again. Some fancy bells and whistles .. but definately not a quality mouse.

I use Logitech peripherals. I find they;re good value and good quality. My mouse isn't a "Gaming" mouse, but I've had no problems with it, and it's great for web surfing with the forward/back/search buttons.

I actually laughed at that keyboard. Something about having a fan on it to keep your fingers cool just cracked me up. When it comes to picking a keyboard I always go for what's best to type on over gaming performance. for gaming I have my G13 GameBoard which has 25 programmable keys, and LCD screen, and is easier to use in-game than a Keyboard (or in addition to using a keyboard).

As for Razer stuff I've seen their products, but I've thought of them as a bit overpriced (I swear I've seen their Nostromo Game Keypad with Belkin branding for £20 cheaper), but I've not really used them.

Oh, I thought this was going to be about Razer from the Robot Wars tv show. I'm sad now.

Razer (the robot) was totally the best though.
Aha I thought exactly the same, though my favourite was Chaos2.

For MMOs, I prefer my mix of my custom-programmed Logitech Mx500 corded mouse and the Belkin Nostromo n52 controller.

With the right layout and control scheme, they work like a charm.

Problem is, they're both getting a bit aged, and I'm starting to worry that I won't be able to find an identical replacement for my Mx500.

DPI DPI DPI. DPI is not the end-all-be-all of gaming mouse statistics. Professional Quake players only play at like 2500 DPI, if that. All DPI is, is the maximum speed your pointer can move at. It's just your mouse sensitivity basically. Having a mouse at 5,600 DPI is just a fancy way of saying you can crank the sensitivity to unnecessary levels if you want. Look for a mouse that fits your hand, and is as heavy or light as you need it to be. Possibly programmable if you want some macros.

Razer is really no different than most other hardware manufacturers except all their stuff glows and they have a bad reputation for failing hardware. Don't fall into the "This is the Ultimate Gaming Mouse" advertising crap. I've seen "hardcore gamers" that use the old beige Microsoft Intellimouse. It's all preference.

Higher dpi means absolutely nothing

at all.

Get the newer Deathadder 3500dpi mouse, best mouse on the market if you're a right handed palm player.

I've had a Razer Lachesis for about 3 years now, and I've been exceedingly pleased with it. I have pretty limited desk space, so I like the sensitivity and precision. Yeah, I know, anecdotal evidence is anecdotal...but OP is asking for opinions. If Razer is in your price range and you think it'll work for you, go for it.

Have a Creative Fatal1ty keyboard, because I love scissor keys. All of my other keyboards have been Saitek, though, solid stuff.

I'd say the need for high DPI is very game specific. For FPS, MOBA and RTS games having a high DPI and adjusting yourself to play smoothly with a very fast cursor tends to help with reaction time quite a bit. Personally have used a couple of Razers and tried a friend's Logitech and I have to say I prefer Razers by a long shot.

Try the Abyssus or DeathAdder if you're not going for anything fancy.

HURR DPI.

I used to own a Deathadder and admittedly I loved the thing to death, shame it crapped out after a year, but still a brilliant piece of kit.
Now I own a Logitech MX518 and I'm pretty much head over heels for this thing too, cheap as chips on Amazon and it fits my hand perfectly.

Honestly, most of it is down to personal preference, DPI isn't the be all and end all of mice, sure, higher DPI helps with reflexes and reaction times, but 5600 DPI is just utterly unnecessary, you will never need your mouse to twitch that fast, my MX518 is capped out at 1800 DPI and my reflexes with it still have me out-gunning most people I play against.

Comfort > Grip > DPI.

I like Razer's kit, but their reliability is tragically poor.

Four Razer products in my household and not a single one hasn't developed some type of quirk within half a year.

Response time > grip > DPI.

I'm more of a Logitech fanboy.
I have the Logitech G9x mouse and a Microsoft Sidewinder x6 Keyboard.

I must admit I switch between playing MMO's and FPS,
however I do find the macro keys pretty useful and simple to find.
I have different commands to relay to my team because 1 people always turn off mics if you talk,
and 2 I play late at night, so instead of yelling into a mic so everyone can hear me I just press a button and they can usually understand the orders at a glance.

Also the transferral of text is almost instant so it doesn't interrupt my gameplay.

Usually simple commands like
"Cover me" "Split up" "Flashbang" "Can someone take out the sniper" "Air support - GET INSIDE" "Watch out campers" and the classic "**** off noob"

But with the sidewinder I have specific directional commands on the numpad.

I change them depending on the game I'm playing so the 3 different profiles really helps.

As for the mouse...

It's good, it is useful to adjust the mouse movement speed, and I prefer only having 2 buttons on the side so I know when I hit them that it is going to be that exact action. (I tried that Razor and I kept bumping other buttons which was annoying).

One thing I have never used is the adjustable weight system...
It really makes very little difference.
