He's not evil, really. He just has said some horrible things, and has had a hand in the downfall of Activision.
People just overreact sometimes, myself included.

Doesn't mean I like him. I absolutely despise the man, but I don't really think he's technically evil. Just... semi-evil.

To be honest I have less of a problem with Mr. Kotick than those of us who buy his products. The thing is that he runs around and says flat out he wants to screw us for every dime we're worth, does all these corrupt and obtuse things, and despite everything we STILL give him our money. The bottom line is his continued existance shows that gamers by and large are sheep, and then we wonder why the industry keeps doing wrong by us.

In many businesses being caught read handed making some of the comments and such that he's made (and basically admitted to) would have left to his business collapsing, or at least his being replaced by shareholders.

To be honest the fact that he can run around acting like the bad guy from "Wall Street" although infinatly less subtle, says as much about us, as it does about him.

While there might be more behind the Infinity Ward thing than we know about, it's generated a bunch of bad press and such. Yet if they were to release "Modern Warfare 3" by Christmas I could almost guarantee it would STILL sell even to those who know what was going on.

Evil? No. Asshole? Yes.

I'm pretty sure Modern Warfare 2 could've been a much better game without Activisions interference, and I might have had a look at Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Isn't that Ubisoft? Or did I miss something big?
Sorry, my bad, you're right. Durp moment. But still, Ubi and Acti are making EA look sort of nice at the moment :)

This is pure eveil :D, he just wants to milk games and make money nothing else. He needs actually let developers have some nice room even if it costs them money, not like they dont have.

He is a greedy asshole, which i think is a prerequisite to being a successful businessman (good thing i've never wanted to be a businessman, successful or otherwise). Not sure if he is actually evil. It's not necessarily out of the question, though.

Only because of their DRM. They at least try to make decent games and not churn out sequels and expensive map packs every week. (Which definitely aren't worth it, I guess)
They also don't treat their employees like Chinese kids in a shoe workshop.

I like to believe that DRM is just a trend that will probably go out (hopefully) soon.

I think it's kind of funny how much hate he gets. I mean, even by business standards he's pretty tame. How many companies outsource most of their labor to other countries so they can pay their employees less? Or cut most corners in manufacturing products that there's eventually several deaths and a product recall? As far as I know Kotick has never done any of these things. Perhaps if he was a CEO of a different type of company he would, but then he also wouldn't get much hate anyways.
I agree.

All I have seen in this thread is name calling. Does anyone have any real examples of how this many is an evil, (insert all the silly names kids call him here) guy?

Just because you didn't like Modern Warfare 2 doesn't give much weight for this name calling. You say he's greedy? I say you sound like jealous children.

I just read about the Bungie and Activision deal and started to read about Robert Kotick and what he has done and is doing. I was shocked at the things he has said so my question is is he evil or just a greedy people hater?
He once told a story ......

Another employee in Japan sold videogame rights to franchises even when they had no rights, such as Knight Rider.....

It was an entire company built on the belief that it's okay to do *anything* to get ahead. Even breaking the law.

EDIT: Many people on this thread are making the same mistake Bobby himself makes- you are assuming since many people in Corporate America do this, it's not evil. Just because many people are doing it does not make it "okay" or for that matter, "non-evil."
I have never seen these stories before. Have you any legit source you are getting your info from? Just because the guy has some fame doesn't mean you can lay any and all wrong doings, that happen around him, at his feet.

I get why kids want to think he is the bad guy, but does anyone have any real reasons?

He isn't evil, although he isn't one of the people I'd like to hang out with either. He'd be like the guy in the corner of the classroom that nobody wants to talk to.

I think most business men are evil. They want their own gain and their own personal profit at any and all costs possible. If it means ruining the lives of 800 developers by making them work 70 hour weeks, suffering poor health and sleep deprivation, then that's fine so long as he gets his big fat bonus. If it means destroying families or not giving employees their bonuses then that's fine. If it means lying and saying whatever needs to be said that's fine.

It is possible to commit great evil without doing it directly. This is what Kotick does.

Please help me be less ignorant. This will require patience on your part, and explaining to me how this makes him evil.

He piggy backed onto a guy who was making money, so his company wouldn't die. Much like people did with the bazillion versions of tetris, I understand that this was against a copyright law or two or all of them, but what was the end result? Was Kotick the sole man responsible, and did he go to jail for these actions? People who break the law pay one way or another, when rich people do wrong to another, they usually pay for it monetarily.

This is something he admitted himself to enlighten people how the industry worked back in the day. If this is the reason people flame Bobby, then I still don't think it's justified.
Like I said, Bobby's logic was probably "Hey, everyone's doing it, so it can't be that bad!"

But scamming the sheriff's when they come to reposses your stuff is still illegal, and a form of theft. And selling rights to stuff you don't own is both illegal and dishonest. Bobby didn't initate a lot of these things, but he played along with them. And I think that philosophy of doing anything to get ahead- even committing theft and lying- is evil. Today, Bobby is just continuing that philosophy he was exposed to.

Nope, he is just a dipshit or at least extremely bad at presenting his own persona.
He is also one of the most highly rated CEO's in the software industry when considering his compensation package with respect to earnings year over year since he took office.
