The game is not dying it is just changing. Obviously it is not the same TF2 it was when all classes had laser point specific roles. Personally I don't think having a certain amount of flexibility with roles is a bad thing it helps stop the game become just a glorified rock paper scissors. I don't think it is at point where it is a problem aside from hats making an impact on gameplay. I don't agree with that and outfit bonuses although some aren't too bad and imba.

It isn't dying, it's changing. The biggest change for me isn't in any update by valve, but by the community, who tends to play on larger servers these days, with 32 players. This makes maps crowded and favors stupid stuff like spamming granades and rockets, and disfavors qusihy classes.

Being someone who bought the game before any of the updates at all (And still have only a pathetic ~200 hours) I'd have to say that I sort of agree with you. It seems like the more stuff Valve add to this game the more and more it goes away from it's original idea.

Also, it's a whole lot less balanced now with all the absurd weaponry getting tacked on. I really do miss how the game played pre-update. I mean, it's still good now, but it's just not the same TF2.

EDIT: I don't think it's dying, it's a completely different game at this point.

Yeah, the way they keep updating the game years after release is just terrible.

All that new content is killing the game. They should have just left it how it was at release. Attempting to keep the gameplay fresh by adding new elements is a stupid idea.

Phht.

Seriously?

My one and only complaint is that sometimes players get distracted by the trading and whatnot. I'll be about to die, frantically mashing that "Medic!" button but all to no avail because both our medics are standing in a corner trading hats.

Everything else is fine.
Amen brother. I hate when people join a map and then sit in the spawnpoint trading, especially when our team is getting the snot beaten out of it.

The boss is less of a game update and more of a halloween.. Fun thing actually. I think the game is great.

I don't know, I'm swamped with a broxe 360 version, but from what I've read and seen, it does seem like it's on it's last legs of it's once great glory.

I really feel that TF2 is dying. Not in its playerbase, but that the game is actively trying to kill itself.

With every update, the core gameplay seems to keep getting buried under more and more stuff, until is barely resembles itself.

I came into the game around the Sniper Vs Spy update. I would have been happy if major updates had stopped by the time the Engineer update finally rolled around. But they didn't. Trading was added to the game. Bosses. More weapons.

It is just too much now. When the game first started, each class had a very specific role to play. While these roles are still available, they just aren't being used as much. Classes aren't acting the way they should be.

The worst I feel is the GRU for the heavy. These boxing gloves make the heavy run at high speeds to be a melee class. That is not supposed to be the heavy's strongpoint!

Anyway, it is seriously bothering me.

TLDR: Is TF2 dying under its own weight?
Just about everything else has been answered apart from one thing:

You know that the "boss" is only on for the halloween update, right? It'll disappear on the 8th.

It?s not dying; you just don?t like it anymore because it has become somewhat of a different game.
If nothing else the updates prolonged the experience people had with it far beyond what you might expect. The alternative to stepping out now when it has become to hectic is a slow death as people drifted away and the whole game becoming desolate.

If this is its death it?s certainly going out with a bang.

Really? The game is still fun as hell, I just see this as people whining and complaining.

If you don't like it don't play it. I love being able to trade and craft, and the bosses are hilarious to fight against.

They are just doing what they can to keep the game successful, and its definitely working.

The GRU are often quite the setback.. If you run out of ammo, and have no sandvich left, you literally signed your own death warrant.. And then a scout comes along and fishkills you because you have no ammo and is low on health..

Ive played TF2 since 2008...all the updates have not made me feel like i was playing a different game..it made me feel like i was playing a funner game.

Besides every weapon has its strengths and weakness.

The GRU removes a heavy's melee hits but allows it to stay with medic and get to the battle field faster.

The Sydney Sleeper allows you to weaken a enemy then go in for the kill with one of your melee weapons.

Everything was planned and i guess some people just cant deal with changing dynamics and learning constantly.

The problem, I think, is that Valve is leaving itself wide open to They changed it, now it sucks. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheyChangedItNowItSucks]

Yes, I have been with it since beta and every update takes it farther from the game I fell in love with and spend over 700 hours of my life in. My favorite class, the scout, is now able to take on anything face to face, instead of requiring quick jumping, circle strafing, and the ever popular weapon heckling. The new kids all use the new weapons to counter any of the old strategies and the entire game revolves around stupid things like hats.

Vanilla servers unfortunatly don't fill the void since you know deep down the game is ruined.

TF2 can't die while being ubered. Not even by Triple H.

What was that, Sandvich? "Kill them all"? Good idea! HAHAHAHA! [http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Media:Heavy_sandwichtaunt10.wav]

Frankly, I like all the updates. The crafting system gives me goal besides kill everyone, same with the Halloween updates. Now I'm playing the game so I can get the NEW WEAPONS and use CRAFTING to make myself an axe added by the HALLOWEEN UPDATE using the metal given by a BOSS.

I'm having loads of fun with it.
