Terrorism - commiting an act to harm and inflict terror on a populace

Aka constantly dwelling on it counts as a win for them

Besides I've played through white and I don't even know what city is meant to be New York. If it's the one with the bug gym they really haven't done a good job considering all the Japanese business men running around.

And since when was Kyurem established as the pokemon that fell from the sky?

Honestly, the reference completely passed my mind until you brought up just now. I still don't really care, however. Seriously, I can understand the emotions around 9/11, but you American's seem to treat it as though Al Qaeda nuked half your country away when the Twin Towers fell, and seem to want everyone else to care just as excessively about it when we have no reason or care to.

Stop bringing it the fuck up. Please.
Dude live in America. in 2006 they didn't even know Sept 11 was that day and had to be reminded of it. The only people who bring it up are politicians. Only New York seems to remember or anyone personally affected by it. It was only 3000 people you'd think they remember it a tad longer sincerely.

Yes, 9/11 was a big deal. No, it shouldn't be forgotten...
But in the that we don't forget Pearl Harbor! Which HAS been depicted in games that we play all the time!

This is utter bullcrap, plain and simple bullcrap. First, as pointed out, Kyurem is 9'10". Second, The desert isn't part of Castelia City, or has anything that would suggest a Ground Zero (BTW it's not just reserved for 9/11) besides construction (OMG construction near a city!) and the remains of the Relic Castle that looks more like it was buried beneath the desert. The article is inaccurate along with the fact that it comes from Cracked, a HUMOR site.
If there was something more to the argument, I'd love to hear it and debate over it. But until then, stop with all the butthurt.
Sincerely, an American

I realize that. I was talking about the American's that brought it up in this thread (on that side), including the OP. I may have sounded generalizing, but I'm not. I assure you.

9'10", mate. Get with the game.

I have Kyurem in my Pokemon party, and that is directly on the Pokedex info for him. Also, he is nowhere near the city in mention when you find him.

Well, I didn't play through this game, get to that spot, see it on the map and think, "hey, that's ground zero!" I looked at the town map. I knew, before looking at it, that it was going to resemble Manhattan. I still didn't see a ground zero reference until just now, reading this. I know victims personally. I'm not offended, and they probably aren't either.

And even if it's supposed to be a mirror-image of ground zero, complete with broken Verizon building, I don't think the game trivializes 9/11 in any way. And I also don't think a map that reflects a landscape resembling a post-9/11 NYC is trivializing either, intentional or not.

It's easy fodder for people to get either overly offended about, or overly defensive of.

Out of curiosity, who is this aimed at? If it's the people on the thread, they're only responding to a recent article on the Escapist. if it's Game Freak, I don't think they intended for controversy. If it's the people who played it, they may have picked up on it, but I imagine most left it at that and moved on. If it's the media and the small minority of people who brought this issue up with them, then I understand. But I think people are misinterpreting your sentiments. Or maybe I am.

How is that in any way offensive? Sure it is based off New York and it is a bit of a play on stuff, but that is like saying that my Animal Farm in Minecraft is offensive because the hammer and sickle is on one of the walls.

There isn't a 9-11 Pokémon in the first place, so I guess it can't be offensive if it doesn't exist. Cracked didn't get any details of the route or Pokémon right in their article. And even if they did and what they said had been true, they're still just trying to get people riled up over something that wasn't intended to be offensive.

The entire region itself is meant to be New York City, not just one part of it.

So I don't know if there was already a post about this, but I guess in the new Pokemon games Unova is modeled after New York City, complete with it's own Ground Zero. This is caused by a meteor which then leaves a pokemon who happens to 9 feet 11 inches tall. Obviously, I doubt that the Pokemon team had any serious negative intentions here, but it does seem a bit insensitive.

Found out about it on Cracked.com

http://www.cracked.com/article_19087_the-9-most-offensive-911-references-in-pop-culture.html

It's #5 on the list.
This thing is being blow way out of proportion. If anything, this is some big conspiracy theory, a very messed up one at that, that doesn't even have any clear points.

Yes this generation of Pokemon the region is based off of North America, but obviously looking at the map it looks nothing like it. The place that comes after Castelia City is just a desert and a ruins of an ancient(we are talking Egyptian tomb type stuff) civilization. There are construction sites in that area, but it is just suppose to be city expansion.

Cracked is incredibly stupid and obviously haven't played the game themselves. That Meteor that they are talking about, didn't fall anywhere near Castelia City. If you look at the map, got north to the next city then go right and around three cities. The Meteor landed around/next to Lacunosa Town. The people in that town in my game talk about the Meteor crashing right next to their town, no where near Castelia City. If not, than some how my game is different from everybody else's.

People are just grasping or juicy news where there is none, now, everybody, get back to your lives and forget about the crazy people that thought up this stuff to make these articles.

I laughed as well, they link their source for the Pokemon's height to Bulbipedia, when you use that link, it says the Pokemon's height is 9'10".

But now all the conspiracy theorists are going to spew that it is close enough or that Bulbipedia has been tampered with.

Just the bolded. The scenario doesn't actually exist in the game, Cracked is rather.. cracked this time, when it comes to making up bullshit for the sake of "comedic" effect.

OT: I honestly don't care in the slightest. Hell, I like their little allusion.

See, the reason is that most Americans have never actually had a tragedy as their city being bombed, something many people in the middle east worry about every day. I even remember a home show where the woman was willing to pay a lot more for a house with a bomb shelter because she was afraid the house would be bombed someday. Many Americans are complacent, not realizing that they (well we, I'm American too) are quite possibly the only country in the world that doesn't go day to day worrying about regime changes and terrorist bombings.

Yeah, the whole meteor thing they are taking about, fell much further away in the north east of the map, and Team Plasma isn't even involved, by the time I even found where the meteor fell, I had beat Team Plasma and they disbanded.

So for the story, Cracked just shifted the meteor crash and added Plasma in. Only people that haven't played the games might take Cracked seriously. But I worry about people that take Cracked seriously anyway.

Na. No offense taken. I live right by the city, but really, this isn't offensive in the slightest. Love the game, and I doubt that was an intentional reference, and if it was, no idea how that could be offensive.

The thing is, it isn't even true, Crack made the whole story up. This can be seen by the point that all of their "facts" behind this story are wrong, right down to the height of the Pokemon, it is 9'10" not 9'11".

So got get hammered and know that Cracked likes to make up false stories. Though, I'm betting you already knew that.

This is getting old, very quickly. Yes the 9/11 tragedies were horrendous. Yes It could be considered insensitive when people make references to the 9/11 situation. But it was 10 years ago. So could we please stop pointing out everything that may have some smidgen of a reference to 9/11, and just accept the fact that it doesn't need to be circulating the media anymore?

We get that it was horrible. We get that your American pride was hurt because you were attacked on your own soil. Deal with it. There are worse things happening in the world right now as we speak.

good god look at the trolls...just flailing about like fish out of water.

anyway...i haven't played the game, but if it was unintended then no...if it was actually called ground zero (again i haven't played the game so i wouldn't know) then ill just say Nintendo is stupid...oh wait...thats redundant.

but honestly as an american, i dont think we should be offended by this stuff unless its really direct like the wrestling thing. but on the other hand, im kinda hating how people are like "Get over it" FUCK THAT 3000 people died because pissed off radicals hate apple pie and smiling babies! What if the building were in your country? you be pretty pissed.

p.s. 10 years ago is not very long in the grand scheme of things....stop useing that excuse please.

Well said.

Honestly, they're taking things way too seriously. I'm not a gringo and I do know a thing or two about tragedies, as this country has lived a couple of those, even more with all that narcoterrorism shit in the news all day, but c'mon, Pokémon being a "tasteless offense" is a bit too much.

Yes, we get it, many people died and all that shit, but so did Japan, and guess what?, the nukes that were throwed at them were American and now, 66 years later, they are suffering an even worse disaster that could potentially get worse and they're not bringing that shit whenever they can.

Okay, maybe that was a bad example, but c'mon, I'm tired of all the 9/11 shit you always have to bring up.
