Propaganda is a feature of totalitarian states because it basically involves a point being shoved down your throat so you believe it. Not the case here I'm afraid.

You probably know this, but just to be clear, propaganda is not used exclusively by dictatorships. Almost every nation uses/has used propaganda to further some political agenda or other. Just look at some of those posters from the 40s meant to inspire help for the war effort in America. And the key part of propaganda is bias. The prominence of homosexuality in the game is not what makes it gay propaganda or not, rather, it's how it's presented. And I'd have to actually play it before I could call it either way.

Now this whole gay marriage thing in skyrim is very clever. There was no reason for bethesda to tell the world, and they only did it for contreversy, which is basically the best kind of publicity, because now people will by to 'Support gay marriage' if nothing else. Anyone who actually gives a shit about this is probably atleast a borderline idiot.

I find the Escapist to be mostly childish. Any attempts at acting civilized tend to fall flat, feel insincere, and full of short-cuts. It's like seeing a guy in a black, over-sized, untucked tee-shirt with a his favorite doom metal band emblazoned on the front, black cargo pants with chains, and white tennis shoes wearing a fedora claiming that the hat makes him classy.

The massive support to Miss Theus was good. The mob mentality against the website displayed when they departed the Escapist before all the information was made available shot all of that in the foot.

I think the people of the escapist are just among the most eloquent douchbags on the internet.

Though what i'd say what really separates people here from other sites is that most people here can actually defend their statements and blatantly ignorant or provocative statement get hammered by BAN so fast many won't even have the chance to notice.

As for my thoughts on gay marriage in Skyrim i say go right ahead. I'll bet the hordes of heterosexists would be silenced if we just wagged a picture of two girls making out in front of their eyes.

All games websites are uncivilised, because a lot of people game, and that's going to include a whole load of braindead prudish twats who were raised on 18th century values, AKA privileged white boys who like to throw their toys out of their pram whenever they don't get immediate preference over "minorities".

The Escapist has a load of attention seekers, Videogames communities are a haven for rebellious hormonal twats, and this place isn't much different from any of the others. A load of users defending ridiculous political positions because it makes them different, and in their own mind makes them feel like they are RIGHT and the internet is WRONG, when really they are just immature idiots with no real argument. I bet any of them reading this will be thinking "he's not talking about me, he must be talking about the other guys!". No. No I'm not.

It's tidier in here, and idiots mostly get banned, so I'd say this place is definitely a step up from other shitty sites.

As for the above conversation, including ANY form of marriage is making a social statement. Marriage isn't natural, and to be frank, there are enough games that subscribe to the right wing conservative crowd (after all, games are made in Japan and America), so I celebrate that Skyrim allows gay people. I don't honestly see how it affects these twats. I suppose it must be hard to play a game where you are allowed to be gay, when you personally can't come out in your own community no matter how much you want to...

And these aren't a minority, about 80% of the comments I've seen have been hitting on Bethesda and homosexuals in general on these websites, and The Escapist is one of the only places I haven't seen stuff like this, besides the rare comment or two.
Thoughts?

The kind of people who would be turned off Skyrim because of the option of same-sex marriage... well they would NEVER have been interested. For Pete's sake, there as been gay/lesbian marriage in RPG for ages, as early as Fable.

But relating to The Escapist, we do have a "don't be a jerk" clause AND a "don't accuse trolling" clause of the forum rules. That I think is quite unique and distinct. Certainly why I stick with The Escapist.

I won't say that The Escapist is the most civilised gaming forum on the internet, but I will say that it is the most civilised one that I know of that has a large user-list.

The only ones I know of that are more civilised is Something Awful (entry fee, not really a 'gaming' forum) and Let's Play Forum (Fairly small, currently down because of a possible DDoS attack from what I've heard, and the current host is being a douche)
