*sigh* Another day, another pony thread. Yes, we really do enjoy the show. Perhaps our response is heightened due to the thrill of "forbidden fruit", so to speak, but if we didn't actually like it we wouldn't watch it.

With this show, I thought people liked it ironically, then I gave it a watch and found it really WAS a well made and entertaining show.

If you are someone who likes animation/cartoons, then you should really give this show a chance, because it is definitly worth your time, but if you aren't really a fan of cartoons, I wouldn't jump into this show expecting it to be the craze everyone says it is.

And if you do decide to watch it, don't be put off by the first 2 episodes/the 2 parter, it does a nice job introducing the characters but isnt really a great episode, stick around for the fifth episode or so, and you will (hopefully) see why people like this show.

But, yeah, its good and I like it.

It's primarily aimed at kids, namely little girls. Yes, it's campy to an extent, but it's also...intriguing. I thought it was some stupid internet meme or fad at first myself, but it's actually not that bad.

Pretty entertaining stuff, I'd suggest checking it out when you've got some spare time.
no offence but i'd rather do jello shots from jim belushi's navel in my spare time..
Then why waste time asking for opinions about it?

It's not like the show's going to hurt you if you watch it, and if you don't like it, well, you don't like it. No harm done.

It is truly one of the only cartoons that I watch anymore. It's one of the only shows that doesn't resort to cheap laughs just because it's for kids, that and the characters are awesome.

It is a good show, i will say that. It's smoothly animated and the voice actors know what they're doing. The comedy is anywhere from pop culture irony to good old slapstick with just the right amount of randomness (something many cartoons have a problem with). characters stick to archetypes but the episodes usually have them acting against the type which is good contrast and leads to efficient and effective story structure and character growth. It is aimed at children and imports good values but generally tags them briefly so as not to be preachy. And the biggest part for me, IT JUST MAKES SENSE. Within it's own universe it is consistent with it's mythology and everyones abilities.

I would not consider myself a brony or part of "the herd",but the show is pretty good and worth more than a cursory glance. It is a show worth watching that you can appreciate without having to be a fanboy.

I think people out there genuinely enjoy MLP. It's well-written/animated/voiced, homie us, and deeper than you might think. While I think that it is ironic that it's attracted a much wider audience than intended (twenty-something males who are not gay, for example), irony certainly isn't the reason why the craze started. It may not be the best show in the world, but it is very good considering it's premise.
I'm not sure why it's ironic that a good quality show is popular among people who are not necessarily its target audience. Avatar: the last airbender was aimed at 8-12 year olds, yet we don't find it ironic when adults express their appreciation of that.

Moreover, I'm not sure that we're that far outside the demographic being aimed at. The author has gone on record as saying that she makes games for little girls and their parents. Parents of young children are usually in their mid to late 20s, so it makes a lot of sense to make a show the whole family likes watching.

I also don't understand your point about gay people. I didn't understand gay adults to be a particularly expected demographic for the show. Might be missing something.
I'd just like to point out that there may have been a teeny tiny bit of sarcasm embedded somewhere in my comment. Also, the thing I find sarcastic is that MLP has become so popular around people who would have no reason whatsoever to enjoy it, but do. As in, they have no children and only got into it because they heard about it (from this site or others), despite not being or having little girls.
Your point is valid about the parent thing, but that's not what I meant.
