Are you kidding? If any platform is dieing I would say it's the consoles. And before anyone flames me, note the qualifier "if". It's my observation that most consoles are just becoming glorified PC's anyway. (I'm looking at you PS3)

Firstly, the gerund for "die" is "dying," not "dieing." It was a good guess, I suppose, if you'd been from another country.
Sorry about that, it's kinda late where I am, thanks for the correction (no matter how rude it was).

No, Its not, Console gamers are a less 'hardcore' group of people that don't know or want to know how their computer works.

Its two different experiences. In my opinion Console gaming is a lot easier to pick up and play, And PC Games tend to have a large lag period before you can play.

No, PC gaming will live on because of casual games and MMOs. Of course it is still going strong in the non-casual category.

it wont. the PC is the 2nd most powerful gaming platform (only completely pwned by the ps3) and im talking power. not anything else. you can mod a pcs graphics card and such to exceed some 360 games, but the ps3 power chip is 23 times better than the best supercomputers available.
I really hate to turn this into a PC superiority thing, but my graphics card from 1 year ago is more powerful than a 360's and it was pretty average back then. I can't say anything for the PS3, but logic dictates that the fact I can buy a a graphics card for twice the price of a PS3, its going to be at least a little more powerful.

I'm certain that PC gaming will never truly die off. In fact, I think it's the best option available for most games, because I love keyboard + mouse control.

Also, PCs have rabid enthusiasts keeping the platform alive. No, I'm not talking about your average PS3, Wii, or 360 fanboy, but more along the lines of [a href="http://www.overclock.net/dry-ice-liquid-nitrogen/277163-yomama9388s-dry-ice-log-56k-warning.html"]this[/a].

The gaming rights kind of go back and forth between consoles and computers, and computer gaming is having a larger slump than normal, right now.

Reasons? Remember around the time that the Wii, 360, and PS3 came out? What was the other big announcement? Yeah, that's right: Windows VISTA.

Normally, consoles will thrive for the first two, maybe three years after their release, and by that time will be so vastly overshadowed by their computer counterparts that game companies start to focus on the PC until the next generation of consoles comes out. Cycle, endless cycle.

That is, until people finally got sick of putting up with Microsoft's shoddy excuse for an Operating System. VISTA killed off more Windows users than any other version of Windows, bringing hordes of people to linux, ubuntu (which I no longer consider to be a version of linux), and Mac OS X. Those who didn't move to a separate OS stuck with Windows XP or simply stopped using their computer as often. This makes programming games for the PC a bit more difficult.

There are companies who are affected but little, such as id software and Epic Games - they have both had linux versions for most of their prominent games (the Unreal Tournament, Doom, Wolfenstein, Enemy Territory, and Quake series, specifically) since they started up, which means that they already focus on programming in OpenGL, which means that ports to OS X are relatively simple, as well. Other companies, though, still use Direct3D, which is only supported on Windows.

With the larger numbers of people flocking to gaming systems for entertainment, not wanting to deal with the issues involved in PC gaming (especially on linux or OS X), companies are, this time around, sticking a little more faithfully to consoles. Still, expect to see the PC gaming market pick up again in the next couple of years - companies can only do so much to make the consoles seem interesting before they have to go back to the true gaming crowd.

Oh, yeah, and I play all kinds of PC games, and I'm running linux (version 2.6.29, at the moment). My group of friends are all kinda moving to linux, too. So my view is likely skewed. Nonetheless, this is what it seems like, to me. PC gaming takes a small dive with every new generation of console - it did when the PS2 et al came out, it did when the 360 and PS3 came out. It's just taking longer, this time, to catch back on.

Ok, you can have better graphics than us when your PC is fully customised etc. but a) consoles are quickly catching up in terms of graphics and b) consoles are simpler, cheaper and more conveinient.

That is the reason why you could easily be forgiven for thinking the PC is dying out as a gaming platform.

And that Iron Mal is one of the reasons console gamers are considered consoletards. You give in to these myths.

Ok heres to dispell your myths

A, Yes consols are excelling in grafixs but not any faster than the PC, Infact grafix cards are gettin MUCH MUCH BETTER, look at Nividias top grafix cards on thier website, will you?

B, Computers are slightly more complicated, but only to a point, its simply not worth dealing with the red ring of death, and lack of games for the ps3, and the fact that your inevidably paying more for the console (get to that in a second).

(What should have been C) The price for consols eventually get to be more than PC gaming or allready is.

Step one In order to get all games to run on your computer but only 80% at great quality)

If you don't allready have one (which you should) get a computer that has at least 2 gigs of RAM, and 300 gigs of memory (32 bit XP is recomended for these specs but 32bit vista is fine, never use any apple opperating system though, you can also linux but if your not very good with computers yet I wouldn't recommend it and it isn't allways supported). This should cost around 250$ USD even in todays market if you dont allready have one

(Bit system is basicly how much ram your OS can use, 32bit can only work with 4 gigs of ram approx though it wont blow up your computer if you have over that, 64bit is for 8 gigs max I believe though not a lot of games support it thuroughly yet, but strangley enough DOW2 runs better on it. next year there may be 128 bit systems that run 16 gigs ram)

Step 2 grafix card

To get good grafix card at a good price, go to bargain sites. I got my nividia 8600 for 50$ last year, now the better 8800 is 50$ on some sites, The nividia 8600 is cheaper but cant run as good, and is no longer standard, 8800 is standard and can run better, and can run 95% at full or great quality.

totall funds if you have a good enough comp 50$ if not 300$

Step 3

DONT USE REGISTRY BOOSTERSs or any thing like Secur rom (not a registry booster), that is used to protect games, the only game I know were secure rom was placed was SPORE, and has perminantly dammaged my comp.

Things you should know

1: on the PC All games that have online play have free online play, unless thier MMOs then sometimes they dont

2: games on the PC cost about 10-20$ cheaper than those of the consoles and that alot of not most DLC is free on PC.

3: If your going to buy any thing from valve, go and get the Valve complete pack from steam, it costs about 90$ but it has all the valve games to date in it. it also saves you alot of money. By the way you can access steam from another computer and play the games you have bought over there,

4: games like fallout3 have modability and a community, it also has windows live were you can download the DLC that you would also get from Xbox live

5: In PC gaming, we dont let gaming companies give it to us up the ass, if theres somthing fishy or somthing bad about a game, we boycot it (example Left 4 Dead 2)

6: if you bought a new computer and it has vista, don't worry, you can still download XP and it will be as if you didn't even have vista, (and you might not if you decide to delete it)
Also Ive heard windows 7 sucks for gamming... you might not want to even consider windows 7.

PCs will be just fine. For every upgrade a console sees, a PC is seeing another one. The other big advantage the PC has to consoles is that consoles have to remain mostly constant, while PCs will see many upgrades over the life of a console, and as such will tend to be better for games if a new breakthrough were to hit in the future.

PCs are on top for technology, consoles are on top for simplicity of gameplay. Theres a reason consoles are more popular.

The other reason the PC will stay where it is, if not improve, is the presence of mods. As they become more popular, PC games are going to get far more out of them than console games.

you know this topic keeps coming up and the funny part about it is it's ALWAYS an xbox360 fanboy that really has no clue about anything

the pc platform is FAR from dying, most of the "exclusives" the 360 gets come out on the pc anyways AND look better and/or they have more stuff

there is and always will be more games developed for the pc than any other platform. this includes both the windows and linux platforms

If the PC dies, then RTS, my favorite genre, dies with it!! I sure as hell hope it keeps going. Actually, if you kept updating your computer in the long run you could have a modern gaming PC at less than the cost of each next gen console, just a bit more ram and a new memory/sound card very couple of years, not to mention the ability to just add and remove games (usually, Steam is awsome for this, EA terrible) means that you can generally revisit your old favorites as well as the current games you are crunching through.

And that, my friend, is why PC gamers have the stereotype of being big headed and elitist, PC's are not better or worse than consoles (in fact, in my original post I never made any claims that either was a superior option, I merely stated why consoles have improved in popularity and how this has contributed to the belief that PC games are dying).

I'm not interested in getting into a discussion of 'which is better' so I'm not going to respond to your 'things you should know' (which was a thinly veiled anti-console rant as far as I could tell), I feel, however, that your counter arguements are somewhat biased (the fact that you started by saying that you were going to demystify me may have had something to do with it).

I believe you have your PC and XBox mixed up, my friend. For every XBox game that's realease that isn't exclusive, there are ten or so for the PC, whether they be proffesional hardcore games, casual games, browser-based, flash-based, or whatever.

And yes, they all count.
I agree, there are many indie games being released for the PC that are never going to be release on the console, but the same thing applies to the Xbox 360, and to a lesser degree the WII and PS3. The Xbox has a new feature where people can make their own games (maybe not as big as PC indie games but games none the less) and sell them on Xbox live. Xbox live also feature the Xbox live arcade where many new titles are also being released, even though some of those are re-releases of older games. The PS3 and WII are also re-releasing older games from their older consoles, but the WII has WIIware, which has released many new games. Now this is all added on top of the regular disc based games. I'm not saying that that seals the gap between the 2, but it definitely comes close.

Let me make an analogy for you.

The PC is like Rasputin, Jesus, Leonardo da Vinci, Hitler, Muhammad, Moses, Chuch Norris, Nostradamus, Yahtzee, and a large assortment of other men with wonderful facial hair and questioned sexualities combined. In short, it is GOD. YWHW. Jehovah.

Now that I have offended 14% of the world, you shall lose your delusions of dead PC's.
