a few years ago cellphone games started existing. the thing i hate the most about them is that it lacks a very important gameplay element: the analog control. this really cripples the games in a way there you can only move in four directions and its all very squareish and "flows like a river of bricks" do you think that some holy developer will revolutionize the cellphone gaming with like...i dunno.. a fuckn ANALOG thumbstick! (it did work on the PSP except that it was very badly placed)

ps: sorry if my English grammatic is a little screwed but im 15 years old and from sweden ^^

Nah, the closest you get is the iPhone, which has no buttons you can play with. They need to bigger than a mobile phone, and they need not to be replaced so often. Phones don't fit in like this, except anything Apple could make, since they rarely release new models of things.

There isn't a future for mobile phone gaming; I can't imagine phone companies sinking money to make a phone game friendly when there are handhelds on the market. I think phones should be used for communciation, not gaming - I'd rather use a specialised peripheral for gaming...

japan thinks otherwise, though the only game i play on my phone is solitaire and thats because it passes 5 minutes on the bus away so i can get home to my consoles :p

These days with cellphones it seems the phone part is the least used >.> iphone is an incredible example, seems the phone is just the least used part, i swear you could scrap the calling thing altogether and im sure it wont make more than a miniscule dent in there sales....

I think that they might have potential, the only problem is that virtually every decent cell phone is different. A game that works on the iPhone won't work on a BlackBerry. And neither would work on a standard flip phone. If cell phone gaming has any future, it'll be in the widespread use of smartphones. Until everyone owns one, cell phone gaming will never significantly take off. That's my opinion.

No. Cellphones aren't a gaming device.
These.

Also, I liked Snake.
And analog sticks can go fuck themselves.
I second the motion that cellphones ARE PHONES, and not gaming devices. And Snake rocks.

But ANALOG ROCKS. I mean, they're just shorter joysticks... and no one can deny the power of the stick.

yes there is a future in cell phone gaming for proof look at the iPhone or iPod touch. Within a few days of the itunes app store, apple did a 180 on how it views games and started heavy marketing of the iPhone/iPod as a gaming platform.

I'm not saying the iPhone is a good gaming platform (lack of buttons kills that) just that there's a large market for gaming phones and all it would take is nintendo, sony or even microsoft to make one that's any good and market it well

Perhaps, if mobiles keep going down the route of becoming little pocket-computers, with internet 10 dozen apps. At that rate, in a year or two (maybe less), the graphics and processing power will be good enough to run some pretty god games. Of course, by then, the games will look like crap, because console gaming will have advanced so far that mobiles will still be far behind

In essence, yes, mobile phone games will get better, but since mobiles aren't designed for games specifically, they'll always be below consoles

It really depends on what you mean by 'Gaming'. To the average joe blow that doesn't care about PC or Video games very much, the simple, casual games already present for most cell phones will continue to be popular, and thus have a future. If you mean moving more into the portable style gaming platform games like you have for DS or PSP, then no, I doubt phones will successfully move into such a market space. PSPs and DS's are the size they are because that's what they need to support proper controls for more complex games. . .would you really want to have a phone that's PSP sized?

There is a future, but not a present.

It'll happen with better technology.

If I wanted to waggle a massive stick around, I would...
...Become a carpenter.
Hohohohoho.
Heh, I see what you did there. Tying sticks to wood to a penis analogy... hohoho. Wittily done good sir.

I still think that analog is awesome though :D

My phone has keys and I can move in 8 directions, or else it would be a whole lot harder to play Rolling With Katamari
