Timesplitters: Future Perfect? At least after you beat the game...
I don't think so because there will be a sequel.
Will be? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TimeSplitters_2]
Future perfect was the third in the series...

True, however I do believe there is a confirmed sequel to come yet...
I believe crytek has the rights to it right now and said they will make one if there is a demand for it.

You must play the ratchet and clank games! They are honestly the best games I've ever played.

OT: The ratchet and clank games actually seem to get worse in the future. Not the game itself, but you know with Tachion or however you say his name taking over the universe. I think the future of minecraft is better than the present though. :)

After finishing Dead Space 2 (great game btw) I was wonder of how video game portrays the future, and sadly every single sci fi Video game I've played always tell us that the future will be a dark gloomy unpleasant time.

I mean seriously look at games like System Shock,Doom , Desus Ex, Halo, Crysis , Haze, Fallout and now Dead Space.

In all of those games the future is not pleasant, I know you will need a problem to solve in order to make a game but why not make beautiful future and make that problem threatens certain people at that time and not the whole world.

BUT, maybe there is a game where the future doesn't that I missed, help me Escapists is there any ?
You want a bright depiction of the future? Sorry about that, OP. I was under the influence that you wanted a fun game.

Most games are driven by conflict, one way or another. You know what isn't conducive to conflict? A happy, Utopian future. Dead Space wouldn't have existed if the oppressive government hadn't been trying to tamper with artifacts they didn't fully understand. Crysis 2 would be about a guy wasting the potential of a multi-million dollar suit of powered armor if it didn't have an alien invasion.

The funny thing about Halo, though, is that the future is pretty good. The only rather large problem is the alien invasion bent on humanity's destruction. And the point of having said invasion is so there can be an actual game.

I know these have already been said but I'd have to go with Ratchet and Clank or Mass Effect. Both are imperfect of course, that being said, they certainly feel a lot more optimistic than Fallout 3, Half-Life 2, or Killzone.

Hostile Water's shows a Utopian future where nanotech and a revolution have resulted global peace, freedom from disease, povetry, and money.

The game is based on these old-world power-brokers who want to return to world to the way it was for their own motivations (power, a self-appointed righteousness, etc).

The view of the new world is towards the end.

Very few from what I've seen, otherwise, what would there be to struggle against in the game itself? If the entire game is a futuristic utopia, where everything is sunshine and lollypops, it would be boring. Struggle in games often comes from oppression and pain, as is often the case in real life as well.

It is also important to keep in mind that there are varying degrees of distopic elements and whatnot, with games like Dead Space and the Fallout series on one end of the extreme, and games like the Mass Effect series more in the middle. Not all games have to have all elements of the game portrayed as being an unpleasant struggle, and we can qualify these statements about specific games.

ToeJam and Earl come to mind.
They're on a mission for Intergalactic nookie and parties.

They crash land on a strange planet littered with silly 'monsters' and rocket skates.

Oh, and you don't even have to play the game.

You can just get some rocket boots, sail southeast, and chill on an island with a lemonade stand and a babe filled hot tub.

in those games, its not so much that the future sucks, so much that the situation the character in sucks. and sometimes, its that there just happens to be an alien race fucking shit up for everyone.

id love to live in the Halo universe post-war. i would say Mass Effect universe post-war but there are still so many bandits and shit in those games lol nobody seems to be safe

Aside from the Covenant invasion the UNSC is no worse a place to live in than the modern world. In fact even citizens of the economically exploited outer colonies enjoy a standard of living higher than people of any modern nation.

Plus given the circumstances of a nuclear apocalypse the Fallout universe is actually quite optimistic, not a good future but it certainly doesn't suck as much as its premise suggests it should. Then again there wouldn't be much of a game if Earth was inhabited only by the occasional patch of lichen.

And as others have pointed out the Mass Effect universe is a fairly pleasant place aside from the ominous fleet of genocidal robots.

Star Trek: The Original Series set games. There were several made by Interplay back in the 90's.

Well, "Mirror's Edge" depicted a very bright and happy future for most...
Lol well it was graphically pretty, but they were living in a totalitarian environment where the government controlled everything =p Compared to some games though that future seems nice.

furturama the game

and monday night combat
alough i guess you could say its not that great if human clones are breed for the sole purpose of fighting to the death for fun

it is hard because most games set in te future are action games which means if there isn't a crisis going on you're a dick causing one
either that or everything is mad max styled and thus you're probably in a post nuclear wasteland

the warhammer 40k universe. Not most of it but if you are lucky enough to be born on a human planet in Tau space you can do pretty much what you want, even prey to the emperor.

oh and Syndicate, until your chips malfunctions.

I'd argue Mass Effect, impending apocalypse aside it seems like a decent place to live. It's not a utopia by any measure, but it's no worse than present day.

Bear in mind that a *large* amount of sci-fi is based around the dystopian idea of the future. Also, you're only seeing part of the world, perhaps the rest of it is a very nice place. Take Dead Space, for example. The necromorphs are nasty, yes, but they are very localized. In fact, the games seem to be pretty civilized places before the aliens come and kill everyone. It could be flowers and sunshine on all the civilized planets.
I was looking for this: I would also say that the Mass Effect universe is a really good future to be a part of...you know; Reapers, Batarian Slavers, Pissed Krogans, general racism being taken to ridiculous new heights, asteroids being used as weapons from mass destruction (heh: pun), other raids on frontier worlds (by races including but not exclusive to Batarians) and, the one I would dread the most, the possibility of falling in love with a young Asari, mating with her, marrying her, living to 160-years old (as a human) and dying. Your Asari widow being a 20-something according to her species and more than likely going to remarry. I am a romantic like that...I would try not to think about my blue-wife eventually finding another lover.

mass effect. there is sex. however, the future iteself might not be so good to live in, with all the fighting going on.

any star wars game? yes, the future is awesome, but unfortunately, the games are not :( there were a few that were good, but that doesn't make up for all the bad ones.
