Here in Mississippi, there's plenty hate(more a mix of envy and suspicion) of Cali. I get mine honest though. Every person I know from there, even family, are complete toolbags. Always complaining about how 'not California' Mississippi is. No shit. Move back there, we have enough assholes here as is.

Strangely I hear from multiple sources that it is the worst for business; yet, it is the home of so many household name businesses like Apple,Amazon, and Google. Maybe its just really bad for small business.

All the states get hate from the other states, I don't believe any of it is meant with any degree of seriousness (except for the political fueled hate), it's more like siblings picking on each other.

According to Garfield, Wyoming doesn't even exist.

As for Florida *cough*, the state is mostly made up of people from northern states that moved there (to escape the cold), that's probably why it's so different than the other more stereotypical southern states. A lot of people like to "retire and move to Florida", so there's also a huge amount of old people. On top of that, you have the beaches which attract a huge amount of collage age people. One group drives really fast, one group drives really slow, in the winter, central Florida at least, is filled with tourists (called "snowbirds" flying south for the winter), there's a large Cuban population in south Florida (see Miami, Fort Lauderdale area), and a fair amount of people from other southern states in the north and in the very middle (but away from Orlando and Tampa, those cities are for tourists and collage students). Put all this together and you get road rage, insanity and a state that really just doesn't know what it's doing when it comes voting time.

Although they did finally kick the FCAT, if everyone in Florida can agree on something, it's that the FCAT is a load of shit.

I have lived in Southern California all of my life. I have lived in LA. I have lived in the Inland Empire. And I currently reside in Orange County(not out of preference). I work occasionally in Hollywood on various productions. The thing I have always found curious is that while the rest of the country thinks that Hollywood is all about pushing their own views on the rest of the country's entertainment mediums, They actually make it a point to tone things down a great deal for the sake of "middle America" so as to not scare them off. It is rather often that this will be cited as a reason to back off on certain creative decisions from screenplay editing to wardrobe approval.

That being said, The average Californian is not as progressive as people would believe. Their is on the other hand a great deal of paranoia here. Much of it well founded. We have high crime and lots of poverty. We tend to be somewhat socially retarded by our insecurity, while trying very hard to be seen as extroverts. We have a reputation for having the most beautiful people here, which drives everyone to insecurity for fear of not being counted among them. We are quite possibly the most neurotic state. Also yes the traffic here is terrible.

Californian here. People hate us because we are all hippies and/or movie stars. All of us.

Nah, I don't think there's a common hatred of California. I've never seen or heard anything worse than a few jokes. Then again I'm rarely out of state, so maybe I'm wrong.
I wouldn't say I hate all of you, I just dislike a large amount of you guys. This is mostly due to tourist from there, the fact you keep electing some of the dumbest politicians, and the fact that your state refuses to pay its debts and yet keeps spending way too much money.

I'm going to take a guess here and assume that you are referring to the Governator when you describe stupid politicians, since its seems like he is a popular target for that kind of criticism. The funny thing is that he actually made a very valiant attempt at balancing the budget. The problem is that every attempt to balance the budget was at the expense of 1 or more interest groups who painted him like the bad guy. Large unions came after him left and right for practically everything he attempted. He even made it a point to personally call individual businesses to talk to them about keeping their operations in California. He also passed legislation that kept college tuitions low during his term. He even outlawed Necrophilia(much to the chagrin of undertakers and the fetish community). To be honest I kind of wish he was still our governor.

The hate comes from how much more strict and seemingly backwards California is compared to the rest of the states. California is in one of the deepest debts of the other states, the cost of living is usually higher, the proximity to the Pacific Ocean means it's open to large amounts of Asian immigrants and pollution, the laws are stricter in terms of hot topic issues like gun control (AKA "Commiefornia"), they used to have Arnie as governor, and because fuck those guys for having Mythbusters and Hollywood.

Really, it's a western version of New York with less historical significance and more bears.

I'm going to comment on this simply as a native-born Oregonian: Yes, we don't like Californians. The reason we don't like Californians is because they move up here for whatever reason, and then proceed to ***** about...

1) The weather. 'It's soooo cold!' It snows here, duh.

2) How little variety there is to do or buy of anything. I find this comical myself, because I've traveled all over the U.S. and we actually have more going on for us here than 80% of the Midwest, South and Eastern Seaboard.

3) The people are hicks. This is another funny comment since most 'Oregonians' are actually California transplants. So, whenever you insult an Oregonian, you might want to make sure they didn't come from, say, YOUR STATE.

We are in a few ways like the Japanese. If you are an outsider, no matter how long you've lived here, you will likely always be considered an outsider. My spouse is still a Californian as far as I'm concerned, even though he's been here for twenty years now. It's not prejudice, per se, it's just many of us can count how many generations we've been here, where towns started, shifted and died, what building used to be what back in the day, and so on. We just happen to have a little more in common with each other than somebody who newly comes in and promptly starts complaining about how un-Californian we are.

All states have opinions about each other, both positive and negative, in the same way the EU nations all have likes and dislikes about each other. What a lot of people, even over here, don't seem to get about America is that it ultimately is a cluster of fifty nations governed by a federal over-nation, if not in name then in practice. America is the empire, California is the duchy where the movies are made.

I'm pretty sure that it's similar to the Canadian "hatred" of Quebec.

ie. A few people do genuinely hate them, but most people like Quebec well enough, but EVERYONE goes on about how terrible they are. Same with the common "perception" that Alberta is locked in a hate-ridden blood feud with Ontario. National jokes are a bit weird.
Yeah, I get that. It's like Wales being 'the place with the sheep shaggers and the rain'. :D They know we love them really. Mostly...

Ya know, I never thought of it like that, but it does make a decent amount of sense...

I live in Ohio and we do hate California. But North California is cool. All the Texans, New Yorkers, Michiganites, Indianaolites, Pennsylvanians, Kentuckymen, Tennesseans, Floridians, and Wisconsinites I know hate California. It's mainly the people, because let's face it, they are awful.

Hatred? No. Do we deride California to hell? Of course. We do it for all the states (except Delaware because who gives a shit about Delaware). Florida is full of crazies, Texas is thinks it is a separate nation, Oregon is hipster central, and California is... well:

Yeah, pretty much this.
*snf snf* I care about Delaware. T.T *goes to a corner and cries, drawing circles in the floor with his finger* W-We matter...W-We're better than fuckin' New Jersey...And we're n-not even in the South, technically...

OT: No idea. I like California, to an extent. All my fellow dirty hippie socialist liberals live there or on the East Coast here. Still, they did pass Prop 8 for a time, so they aren't that great. Plus, there does seem to be a slight culture of vapidity, so...yeah...

The thing is you're blaming all of California for what is legitimately a very, very tiny population. Both in Northern California, around the San Francisco/Sacramento areas. Possibly San Jose. Literally, maybe 100,000 people at most. So I'm just pointing that out. California has around 55 House congress members and 80 state assembly members, we don't vote for all of them. Yee was, and still is, an idiot. Pelosi's a life-time politician. Both should be out of politics, but those of us in Los Angeles, San Diego, Barstow, and the other NoCal districts do not has an ounce of control over what the other remaining voting citizens in this state do. And seriously... I think maybe less than 20% of Californians vote anymore?

And in regards to politics, nationwide California is regarded as a Democratic blue state, but if people have an actual look at the political make up of this state, they'll realize it's locally Republican red for the most part. Heck, the big cities are more purple than blue anymore.

Oh I know that some of you are ok people but dear lord it seems like the majority of you guys who leave are the ones with the fewest brain cells. I shit you not theres at least one idiot every year from there who says this near me or to me, "howdy partner how are things in the west?" in a horrible wanna be cowboy accent that makes me just want to shoot them, hence why I dislike people from California.

I hate the southern US. I hate Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina. California, though? Nah, I don't have any problems with California. I mean, I hate hippies and stoners, but they congregate more in Oregon and are still pretty spread out through the US anyways.
