A Smooth Criminal said:There's a difference between 'majority of the world' and 'lonely cynic bastards trying to persuade themselves that they're normal on the escapist'
Keep on attacking people you've never met and know next to nothing about. It reflects wonderfully on you and the institutions you value. I find it extremely unfortunate that you, and Bhaalspawn, and others who have rushed to the "defense" of marriage (against a question, no less) have done it by furiously attacking the character of anyone who dares to cast a dim eye on it, while they are merely questioning an institution, and not the people who partake of it. You might all be lovely people, I have no idea. But the way you're behaving in this thread is just good old fashioned bigotry.Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot, defined by Merriam-Webster as "a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group with hatred and intolerance". Bigotry may be based on real or perceived characteristics, including age, disability, dissension from popular opinions, economic status, ethnicity, gender identity, language, nationality, political alignment, race, region, religious or spiritual belief, sex, or sexual orientation. Bigotry is sometimes developed into an ideology or world view.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. described bigotry in the following quotation: "The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.
The great irony here is I said back on page one that hardcore marriage advocates behaved like hateful ideologues when questioned. It was a pretty radical position to assume, based entirely on personal anecdotal experience. I fully expected a bunch of rational supporters of marriage to come into the thread and say really tolerant and wise things, and make me look like an ass. Instead, we have you and Bhaalspawn calling people names, sneering at anyone who disagrees with you, and going full ad hominem when people call attention to it. So thank you, for making my ridiculous argument sound 1000000 times more cogent than it had any right to. I recommend self-reflection and reconsidering the methods you employ when rallying to "defend" your cherished beliefs. The one you've chosen is most unfortunate. I suspect you're a better person than this kind of post makes you seem.
Or fuck, maybe you're not. What the hell do I know. But I figured I'd give you the benefit of the doubt, in much the same way I don't immediately assume those who don't share my beliefs are "lonely, cynical bastards trying to persuade themselves they're normal".
