Ignoring western social conventions or other societal restrictions?

Structurally, Men tend to have proportionately more muscle mass, more bone mass, and a lower percentage of body fat, as well as larger lungs, wider airways, and greater lung diffusion capacity. Men are even statistically less prone to osteoporosis and autoimmune diseases. Not to mention that Men have much more convenient "plumbing" as well as not having to undergo the pain of childbirth.

Pros:
-Average higher pay
-Physically stronger
-Don't menstruate
-Piss standing up
-Less societal pressure on appearance
-Less likely to be raped
-Generally less emotionally charged
-No pregnancy/childbirth

Cons:
-More likely to be conscripted
-Are expected to make the first move in asking people out
-Expected to pay on a date
-Women have preferential treatment in courts, especially in divorce and child custody cases
-Cannot hit a woman, women can hit you and if you complain you are seen as a pussy
-Traditional societal role eroding due to women becoming more prominent in traditionally male employment, while women's traditional societal role as the child bearer cannot be touched
-Male rape taken much less seriously than female rape, male prison rape is a common joke
-Have to work out in order to be seen as attractive
-Cannot wear make-up to hide physical unattractiveness
-Are judged more harshly on emotional outbursts/violence
-Women and Children take priority in disasters

And pretty relevant soon: Expected to buy gifts on valentines day when women are not

Men are better in a practical sense, but are fucked when it comes to societal pressures.

more cons:

- more likely than women to commit suicide if single
- Male representation in society is mostly on the extreme ends of the scale (at least in Denmark i.e. men are either succesfull or complete losers)

and as for valentines day lets make another holiday and call it steak and B.J. day...:)

Edit: See darkmantle

Also peeing standing up. Can't emphasise how great that is.
Words cannot even BEGIN to describe how many internets you won here!

Although...

OT: Mulan taught me that women can be as mysterious as the dark side of the moon too! Go us!

I have yet to experience any of these ever. Im tired as fuck of people just saying this and not telling me exactly where in my life i get these benefits? Sure im 18 and i might not have had time to enjoy he awesome privilage of being male that apparently exists but ive never once been given anything for being a dude. I didnt get ANY headstart. I dont understand why people say this. I didnt get anything, did you? Who did? Where is ALL this privalage i apprently should be getting. Because im not getting it.
You're using the internet, that's instantly a priviledge 80% of the world will never have. You have unimpeded access to running water, food, electricity, heat, shelter, technology, medicine and education. More than that, you have access to top quality versions of all this stuff. That is all the headstart you will ever need. Other people in the world have to struggle to survive every day. They can't waste time on an education because they have to walk miles to get food and water, or have to work 16 hours a day to feed their family (who are still starving because they don't make enough) Or they risk being rounded up and shot by corrupt, racist governments for the tribe they belong to.

All the home comforts you experience right now, up to and including the very building you are in, is a priviledge that other people don't have, but you do because you are a white, male, middle class American living in the freakin' Space Age. You are so sheltered by your priviledged life that you don't even realise it.
People don't live in heated houses, people don't have 3 square meals a day and food in the fridge to spare, people don't have the opportunity to go to school, to get a well paying job, to be able to provide enough food and medicine to their child so they do not die. People do not have freedom of speech, or fair governments. You have the life of a king, and you don't understand suffering. That is white, middle class priviledge.
To this I say Pfft. Every privilege you mention was either earned or taken by those who came before us. If those unfortunate people who live in a country being shate upon by its government would like a bit of privilege, they should get up off their starved, malnourished, exploited back-sides, grab a rifle and some friends, and go take themselves some privilege. The only privilege the western world had was less scruples and better weapons than whatever people they happened to be displacing. If us soft, pampered, much-maligned Americans can do it, why can't they?

We have an Y chromosome and an X, while they only got two lousy X-es.

I'd say that wins it, right there.

Male clothing is usually a lot more sensical and decent to. The overwhelming majority of female clothing looks terribad to me - but then I'm a male. I personally find those V-cuts in shirts very distasteful.

Other things are the obvious higher standard pay, no risk of having diseases in organs we do not posses etc.

A long long time ago? Best thing. Period. Nowadays? Not in the fucking slightest.

We never win any kind of fight with a girl. There are a bunch of females that are completely sexist against males. While claiming to be feminists, even though that's something completely different. And while women can have entire businesses and services for just their gender. We can't have anything just for males without it being called sexist...Though we still do have penises...

Hermaphrodites have got it good yo. They can enjoy a sad story with an awesome plot without being called a fag. Can pee standing up. And can enjoy the life of having a penis. Why can't the world be just full of hermaphrodites? Would make everything much simpler.
Haha, they get called fags ALOT! trust me on that one. It's not like everybody has x-ray vision, people treat them like shit for being "quirky".

"Don't bother your pretty little head with that stuff"
"loL b*tCh gEt bAcK in the kitchen"
"women logic!"
"But... you're a girl. how come you can do/understand/like ________"

plus, y'all have a 99.9% chance of... you know... 'climaxing' during sex. We only have a 40% chance, and that's a liberal estimate. And also, you'll never have to deal with a guy being mad at you because you 'emasculated' him by beating him at a sport of video game. "Oh, hun, you have to make less than I or i won't be able to stick it up" ugh.
Also, the internet, and increasingly pop culture, is full of sexist shit.

OT: men don't have to deal with any of this shit

Having two X chromosomes is actually much more beneficial if you look at genetic disease probabilities.Plus, the Y chromosome itself is merely a broken off fraction of a full X chromosome. Also, the fact that we don't have balls is a great way to tip the playing field in a fight(you can kick them in the nuts, they can't kick you in the nuts).

Sadly the whole one-X-more-diseases thing is sad indeed, but on the other hand, uh, more males are color blind! So if you're a male, you have a higher odd of seeing the world completely different than all the other non-colour blind humans! How awesome is that?

(Totally dodged that, did I? )

lol, and if you're born with fragile X syndrome, a common male disease that causes mental retardation, you'll see the world through innocent eyes! male physiology is great! :p

I fear you missed my point. I know now that many people find golliwog to be offensive. I got into trouble for talking about golliwogs, those mischievous being from a TV series of my child hood. I should stress that at the time of this trouble I had no IDEA that golliwog could be taken offensively. To me it was just a thing in a TV series from when I was 4. Now someone took massive offence to this. To the point of it almost starting a fight. But I couldn't have possibly known. I had to ask my mum at age 17 why there were so angry because I didn't understand, at which point I was enlightened.

Now, I dont am I more racist for saying something that to me had no overt connotations of ANYTHING outside of a childs TV show, or now for deliberately avoiding the topic in case I offend someone.

Some perspective is in order. Its difficult for us to rationalise using a racist term in anything but an offensives way. This is what you took me to mean. I said that I should be able to say something racist and saw that as I was tempted to say something racist. This was not my point. My point was I could say anything, even something racist, because I couldnt even understand how someone could fine it offensive, over more, no one ELSE could find it offensive.

I hope this help illuminate my viewpoint somewhat more effectively. While I am not naive enough to believe we should start this now, are we really helping when we tell kids that you should take offence at this or you should never call someone of this race this (because that is essentially what this boils down too) if I call someone a cripple with no over connotations, its just a word, after all I dont see someone who needs a wheel chair as a cripple, that not how I think, they are disabled because that how I was brought up, then cripple has no over connotations to me about someone else inability to do something. Its just a word.

Europe is still a continent divided true, but far more unified than ever, its been what nearly 70 years since we had a war. :p
We poke fun at each other but there is a distinct difference between having a laugh at the French or Germans and hating them. We are united by a common history. It gives us someone to beat in Sport. In the same way people from NY hate on Red Necks. You wouldn't go to war with them. You poke fun and celebrate when your team beats them in the Super Bowl.

Because Samuel Jackson isnt one of the most well know, "I want to be him" people in the world. I will admit that certainly when your wife was growing up this was likely a problem, but every year it is less and less a problem. Hell you have a Black President, an amazingly popular one in Europe it has to be said, there might still be some ignorant pricks around but the change has happened...PAST TENSE. We cant go back, its too late. Every year the balance of racial background enter more and more into proportion.

But, having said that, I still disagree with your statement from the very outset, "people that look like her", is intrinsically a discriminatory view, because you are putting a value on race. It is more important that they are my race, not they are successful, that isn't enough, they have to be my race. Im not saying its your wifes fault, in the same way my mum cant help being something of a neo feminist, she grew up when being a woman in construction just wasnt done, Ive seen rejection letters that read "unfortunately we cannot accept you as a building site is no place for a woman" and Ive heard the stories of having to make special arrangements because the female QS is coming on site.

Thats FINE she had to fight for her position, just as your wife likely did or indeed yourself. But my sister doesn't, my friend Joules doesn't. As a result to put these ideas and beliefs into them is wrong, its infusing them with a belief of something they no longer needs. Its important we remember these struggles, but we cannot let them define us forever. Otherwise we will continue to penalise a generation that largely does not see skin colour as anything but a genetic quirk.

Yes, they are children. Even if look at myself retrospectively, I was treated most as an adult at 16, I officially became a fully fledged adult at 18 yet at 22 I cannot believe how ignorant short sited and childish I was.

Idd with you that American history is both short and relatively dull. I will even agree with you that I think spending the last 3 years of your compulsory education doing it is.....Questionable. What do you do memorise all the presidents?

I should clarify I think that the UK schooling system is somewhat different. Our "High School" 11-16, at which point we enter college voluntarily at 16-18 where topics of study change somewhat and diversify, you can do, for example, an Alevel (16-18) in classic civilisations or philosophy. At GCSE (the last 2 years of our "High School" 14-16) History is actually 1 year on the rise and fall of the Weimar Republic and all the various bits like the Soviet revolution, the Treaty of Versie the peace conferences, the Fall of the Wall, the holocaust etc, with 2 modules in the other year focusing on one of the following: Crime and Punishment through the ages, The History of Medicine, The Wild West, The collapse of the British Empire, The Irish Conflict or Media Through Time. There might also be a modules now on Terrorism and the Iraq War Im not sure.

You can see that in light of this my views on the necessity of teaching Ancient civilisations might actually be a bit jaded as all of these have real value in understanding the world around us.

In this, I will cede to your argument and plead ignorance on the US education system.

I love it how the most commonly-occuring response is the one about peeing standing up! I swear, if I was a man for a day I would spend most of my time drinking water so I could appreciate this.

Also, forgot about the sleeping with loads of people makes you a hero rather than a villain thing. Also, I have noticed that if a woman sleeps with a man who is in a relationship, she is automatically branded a home-wrecker/slut/etc., whereas when it's the other way round (i.e. a man sleeping with a woman who isn't single) there is not remotely the same level of scorn heaped upon the man (and of course the woman in the relationship is branded a cheating whore/slut/etc.).

Yeah I think I would be so irresponsible if I got to be a man for a day, I would probably just go around peeing everywhere and sleeping with people...

Something you might come to learn quickly if you attempt this that it takes quite a bit of effort and a lot of luck (hence the differing gender perspectives). The sleeping around thing at least... not the peeing thing, that's pretty easy to do... unless you actually do intend to pee everywhere, in which case you'll probably land in jail for indecent exposure, sexual harrasment and defacement of public property.

----

@seespotrun, I'm still waiting for you to post an equivilent list for female priviliges. Until I see it, I can't really take the very specific, subjective and presumptive list seriously.

On topic, as far as the good goes, kind of depends on your personal experiences doesn't it? My life would actually be much "better" in it's current state if I were a woman.

What, even though you would have to pee sitting down??!! Surely things can't be that bad! ;)

(I hope I haven't really put my foot in it here and you have prostate cancer or something. In which case, I'm sorry, and will stop making peeing jokes.)
