Yes there is something that changed my life. But I will keep that little piece of info to myself, due to the fact I think it isn't acceptable here and it caused me to go insane for a brief period of time. Not kidding either.

Seems my like case is the happiest on this forum :S I am sorry for your loses, I know that it hurts to lose a loved one. Also about those who faced deceases and survived I guess it is true that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger (I wonder if what kills you makes you weaker).
Anyways congratulations on your courage and spiritual strength. As for those who chose not to reveal their moment I respect that :) Moving on...

Taking drugs for years, and hanging out with a bunch of deadbeats for 5 years.

Taught me exactly what I DON'T want in life...

Loveline (The radio show) also helped immensely with that. (And still does.)

Breaking my leg, put in a cast for 5 months, gained weight, never did lose it, still struggle with it everyday, currently its hindering me from joining the military.
I always thought that not getting into the army was a good thing.

I'm not sure when this happened, but I decided death couldn't be that bad(I'm not being emo). But since then I am not afraid of death so life is a lot more fun.

Mine is a girl, a girl who made me the happiest I've ever been, but who tore my heart out. She changed me and I've yet to know whether its for better or worse.

Er, I'm only 13, so not much has gone that bad in my life.
However there is still something that has shaped me into who I am today: Calvin and Hobbes. Never have I been moved as much by Bill Waterson's genius.

Any one else notice that all the people with animé avatars in this thread have posted real depressing things happening to them?

Changing from private to state education was probably the biggest change for me, opened up whole new worlds that didn't exist to me before.

This. In public schooling I am getting ahead unlike how private school I would be held back.

(Private schooling did help me in my earlier years, makes focusing easier for me. )

This will sound strange, but once upon a time I was on some medication that seriously crossed the wires in my little brain. I had been a shy pushover who was accepted by no one group, but once on those meds I began to not give a damn about what anyone thought, stood up for myself (sometimes in a hyper-violent manner), and adopted an erratic demeanor that people found charming. After I was off the meds, I retained an extremely independent attitude that I would have never known without it. I don't even think people are allowed to take that stuff anymore, it screwed up so many people. And by screwed up, I mean killing their parents type of screwed up. Now I'm the happiest, most arrogant, beloved asshole in all the land, all thanks to a little pill!

It sounds trite, but five years in the USMC changed me. I managed to not fall for the brainwashing, and the end result was I became the same me, but stronger inside and out.

A book titled Einstein's Dreams, (the author's name escapes me at the moment), which not only inspired me to write professionally- opening up a whole new corridor of fun-, but really caused me to think about multiple things; Is time truly what we believe it to be? Should we be more thankful for our lives? The writer is/was, (he published the book in the early 1990's), an English professor in the States, and never before have even philosophers accomplished what he had. It is fairly short- a little over a hundred pages- and the book itself is slightly larger than a DS- but I highly recommend it anyway to anyone and everyone.

I suppose being born with a bad leg changed things a bit too...

Middle school had a pretty big effect on me. My experiences sent me into more then one mild depressions, and taught me many lessons about life and people. I used to think that you could just ignore a problem until it goes away, but it doesn't, you have to put a stop to it the secound you have a chance. I'm not really sure where i'm going with this, but maybe I'll just talk about it with someone, that would be pretty good right about now.

If it wasn't for that, then I would probably be a much different person.

That book is truly amazing.

As for me, well, I've had my life changed a few times, but most of them are somewhat depressing, and this thread already has more than it's share.

For me it was when i fell off some mini-cliff when i was hiking with friends. I fell about 3-4 meters and flipped over twice when my foot caught on a root and landed on moist woodland so i was lucky, so i get up and find that my body made an indentation on the ground and there was a huge motherfucking rock like right beside where my head was, seriously it was like 1/2 a meter sticking out of the ground, and from that day i just felt so happy about everything for a couple of months. but know im back to normal and think that humanity should feel something like this so we can change.

Has to be a girl for me as well. Ever since i met her, been more open to anything and a lot more optimistic. Used to think everyone in the world were just stupid who led pointless lives and now i am just happy to be part of these great groups of people. Bah love this girl to death.
