I would have to say we need something on the same level to compare our self to first.

Other then being one of the only living things will commit acts of mass self genocide on our self, can't think of a thing.

We allow our environments and lack of knowledge to psychologically affect us to the point of individual and group narcissism which then leads to the imagining of convoluted reasonings that justify hating and killing each other.

Yea but dolphins don't have the moral emotional or the moronic religious chains that tend to bind a person after sex.

The thing that makes us different is that we are so poorly adapted to exist. We can't swim very well, run fast and aren't all that strong. The only thing we have going for us is brains. That's how we survive. We even lack basic instincts.

If our situation changed and humans had to survive in a way that our brains were of no use, just plain out instinctual survival, we would pretty much all fail and die.

So yeah, we are unique.
The only way that situation would occur is if some sort of viral strain or bacterial infection destroyed the neural receptors in the brain that allow cognitive thought. Mankind evolved by developing that cognitive thought, which all creatures have in varying degrees. Therefore, your situation is impossible for any creature to survive. Without cognitive thought, a creature cannot learn as it grows; therefore, it will suckle at the teat of its mother until the mother or it drops dead.

Rational thought, self awareness, and thumbs. But this can not be said about all animals or any other creature. We don't know exactly how animals' brains work, we just go by what we can see. For all I know they could be solving the energy crisis and pollution, but to me it just looks like basic instinct.

Moral choices. Example: Animals hunt weaker animals for food. We hunt weaker animals for food/sport/bordom. Everything is the same except the reason we choose to go about it.
It's interesting you would say that. What prompted this topic was me reading the island of Dr.Moreau by H.G.Wells and what he has stopping the animals acting like animals and instead acting like humans is fear of spiritual and psychical retribution...I'm not wholly convinced though...

OP said no relgion. Bad dragon. However, religion, or should I say belief in things that are not qunatifiably there, is a pretty much unique human trait. I gotta mention it, cos it's the truth. The ability to percieve things that are not immediately visible ( like tubas for lovely eating) is a trait that we share with only the most intelligent apes. It's the whole theoretical knowledge side of things and all that jazz that lead us to our glourious dominance. That and this .22 hunting rifle....

Remember, it's not phiolosophical, or spiritual, because it's SCIENCE

Of course they are! That's how people get dorsal fin herpes.

And guns.

But then again it will only be some time until some hillbilly gets a chimpanzee and trains it to hunt squirrel.
Or, perhaps, a squirrel to hunt chimpanzees.... Wait..... THAT'S BRILLIANT!
