Is there one upcoming game you're desperately hoping lives up to its hype?

I'd have to say EverQuest Next. If they can deliver on everything they promised it's looking to be an amazing game. And, you know, make sure that base game mechanics don't suck.

Wildstar.

The more I see and hear about this game the more I want to get my grotty little claws on it. Been wanting to check it out since I saw the teaser trailer back in 2011.

I think Wildstar will be very good, especially if you liked WoW at any point. It's fairly safe and iterative, but smartly so. It seems to take inspiration from everything WoW, and to lesser extent other MMOs did well, while improving on dated mechanics and systems where needed, without screwing with what works. And the more they reveal, the more I feel they are building exactly the game I want to play.

Well, I have to say Project Eternity given that I am a backer of that project.

However I am really hyped for Pokemon X and Y so I hope they will turn out great.

Super Smash Bros. is an obvious one too, because I really like the series and I have had so many great matches with my friends.

I also really like the premise of Massive Chalice and hope that will turn out good.

As other people have already said,I really want Gta San Andreas II(GTA V) to be better than the hype
Better than the hype maybe not. The bar has been raised pretty high however for this game to be anything less than superb rockstar are going to have to fuck up massively

I dont think it will be better than the hype although we never know. Just look at RDR that probably exceeded the hype and for all the hate on IV (i played it last night to whet my apetite for V) it really is a good game. Not amazing but good

Yeah, the new Smash Brothers. I'm not buying into the hype but I really want it to succeed where Brawl failed. It maybe what motivates me to invest in the Wii U.

Well, I really want all games to live up to the hype, just not desperately.

In order of hope spent:

1. Project Eternity
2. Star Citizen
3. Rome II
4. FFXIV:RR
5. Dragon's Crown

Although as low as number 5 is, it's only because I'm pretty sure it will exceed my expectations (UK still waiting for release). Not much need for hope.

Dark Souls 2. Im hoping they didnt cut down the difficulty too much for bigger sales numbers. That series is excellent and its the only game I want from now until Dark Souls 3.

South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Come on, can I get ONE game that reaches the quality of the show!?

[sub]My opinion is that the show is still of a very high quality. Many disagree with me though....[/sub]

Rome 2: Total War. I am somewhat allayed in that basically every past Total War game has been a huge success, so hyping up Rome 2 would be the natural thing to do.

Amnesia A Machine For Pigs. While Frictional Games is heavily involved with development it is mostly being made by The Chinese Room the guys that made Dear Esther. Dear Esther was one of those games that left people divided. On the one hand, Dear Esther is probably one of the most pretentious games I have ever played, it's story is too cryptic for me to really get into it and it lacks any gameplay to make up for the lack of combat and puzzles. On the other hand, Dear Esther is one of the most hauntingly beautiful and atmospheric games I have ever played and the narration is wonderful to listen to despite how cryptic of it. It seems that The Chinese Room is determined to take the best aspects of Dear Esther and fuse them with the Best Aspects of Amnesia the Dark Descent, but it is still possible for it to fall short. But, I have already bought the game on Steam so I have no choice but to wait and see if my money is worth it. This is my first pre-purchased game and I hope it will live up to the original.

FFXV and Bravely Default mainly. FFXV looks all kinds crazy bonkers amazeballs and I just love the modern 'gothic' feel of it. And Bravely Default is a return to RPG roots alongside the most gorgeous art style I have ever seen (Akihiko Yoshida is a freaking God) so i can't wait to play that.

Thief. Thief. Oh god, Thief. I REALLY want this series to be revived in the right way and be given the attention it deserves. The Thief series was stealth done right, and almost every "stealth" game since then has been a pale imitation to me. The trailers and gameplay footage I've seen so far make it seem like the developers are doing things right but after almost a decade since the last game I have lingering doubts.

A few titles come to mind.

Dragon Age 3 is definetly one of them. I am not very concerned however, as I think Bioware is currently quite pressed to make a true quality product that will appeal to their fans.

Rome Total War 2 is another, but again, I am not very concerned. The features announced and gameplay vids all seem pretty stellar. As well as the fact that you can play the campaign on multiplayer. -FINALLY-.

I WOULD list GTA V if they could be bothered to announce how its going to be with the whole PC port. Maybe they already have and I've missed it, but my point is that im not buying a console for a game. Evah.

Finally I suppose, there's Mass Effect 4, which isnt really nr.4 in a storytelling sense. Still, its a title I -really- dont want Bioware to mess up. Im quite concerned over this one because im at my wits end on how the hell they're gonna make the game as appealing as the other three.

GTA V. I really, really want an awesome GTA game.
This and Star Citizen! I already put 50$ into it and hope to drop another couple of 50s over the next few months (maybe stopping around 250$) I want this damn game to succeed to fricking badly! Especially after the travesty that MWO is turning into.

Rome II, GTA IV, Watch Dogs and Everquest Next.
Luckily, the wait is almost over for 3 of 'em.

I'm super excited for Zelda: Link Between Worlds and Pokemon X and Y at the moment.

Naturally being my favorite franchise, any new Zelda game gets me hyped be it for consoles or handhelds. I am a bit concerned about the overworld being a little too similar to Link to the Past, and the thought that it could end up like a "New Legend of Zelda" kind of game. Where it's Zelda, it's great and all, yet it is by the numbers like the New Super Mario Bros. series. I know Nintendo is more careful to keep Zelda more fresh and innovative compared to Mario, but I still have my worries. I'm sure I will still love it, and it may surprise me more than I realize, my hype is still high.

As for Pokemon, like Link Between Worlds, I'm pretty hyped for it, and I have less concerns about its quality. Everything they keep showing off looks better and better, so my hype train has long left the station.
