Is there really a need for gaming magazines anymore?

Playboy is still around and one thing the internet doesnt run out is naked women...
Best point made today. Have a paper hat and a gold star.
No pie or cake? :(
I WILL BAKE YOU PIE!.

And buy you a sweet Yahtzee style hate.

edit HAT!!
not hate, but you can have the hate too, use it wisely.

Awww I was gonna make a combined cake/pie for him/her but looks like you beat me to it xD
We must all bake pie's or cakes.

Bake and exchange pie?

Do it

its the way of the gamer, all hail Oliviera!.
the bake exchange?, will the lord of pie decree such a notion?
or will he find it an affront to cake kind?

stay tuned for more ... DUN DUN DUN

Magazines in general are unnecessary these days. Why wait a month when you can get info instantly.

magazines give you a feel of opinion that you could never get online because magazines give you a sense of personal opinion more so than internet i guess because its either just one person reviewing hundreds of games and n magazines you have 5 people that play a game and give it a score better than one person to 100 games

There's a simple tactile pleasure to sitting and turning pages, and you can't replicate that with a screen.

I also don't want to take a laptop into the toilet for a long relaxing sit down.
Totally agree with your first point and even more so with the second.

I don't think it's easy enough to get good game journalism online (present company accepted) yet. Also, if I'm going on a long plane or train journey it's not necessarily going to be possible to get a good wifi connection.

Maybe the magazines need to update how they operate. Make it easier to donwload articles on to PDA's and Blackberrys. Stuff like that.

I don't think they'll ever be completely replaced though. I hope not or I'll need a toilet netbook.

I'll concede that the internet is a great place to get information...as long as you know what information you're looking for. Meanwhile, get a magazine and you might get introduced to something you had no idea you were interested in.

I subscribe to two magazines, Game Informer and Esquire. My roommate subscribes to Popular Mechanics and Bizarre. (Big ups, Britain.) Between the two of us, we get all the mags we need. Because for us, it's simple math:

Neither of us own a laptop + we need to use the bathroom frequently + being interested in all sorts of things = we like magazines. :p

I read the Official Playstation Magazine every month, I find it very interesting and informative.
It's my main source of gaming information
