You're absoulutly right the culture here is weird for instance I live in Northern Virginia and if I travel a few miles south I'll find my self surrounded by shacks with pick-up trucks parked in the driveways(or lack thereof) proudly flying the COnfederate flag, I ussually find myself thinking "Oh my god I can't beleive I acctully live in this state"

Based on international stereotypes I think our national dish would be one of the following
The Hamburger
The Hot Dog
Pizza (its very popular here despite being invented in Italy)
Fried Chicken
or of course the God of Pies Apple Pie

I'm actually not sure. From my house in the suburbs I can walk to an Italian restaurant, six Mexican Taquerias, an Armenian restaurant, two Thai restaurants, several Chinese restaurants, a Vietnamese restaurant, and an Indian restaurant. They all serve authentic food, and in most of them they have to translate the menu for me. There's so much diversity that it's impossible. Heck, I don't even think my city could decide on a dish.
Your neighborhood beats mine. Within walking distance of my outer urban enclave I have...let's see. About 10 fast food joints and a mall food court with a bunch of fast food of its own. Comes with living right by a freeway exit.
My city is very diverse. We have the largest population of Hmongs, Philipinos, and Armenians outside of their native country. It's only 34% white, actually. It's quite extraordinary.
To each his own about diversity. My neighborhood is the perfect place for a white person to move if he's looking for a good reason to become a frothing white-sheet racist. The Mexicans and Vietnamese around here seem to go out of their way to live down to every negative stereotype you can possibly think of, to the point where I frankly wouldn't blame someone for becoming a racist under the circumstances! They make up about half the population here, and they are without question the reason this neighborhood's going downhill. I kind of want to go up to them and say "Dude, you are doing more for Glenn Beck's cause than the entire marketing department at Fox News is." But that would require saying it in Spanish or Vietnamese (like I said, stereotypes.)

Homeland Security doesn't seem to give a flying fuck, either. You tell 'em the place has more illegals than the left bank of the Rio Grande when the smugglers show up and they're like "Eh. Budget cuts."
