What would you do if your country was taken over by another, and only you and a few others weren't happy with it? I'm not defending their barbaric actions, but we have to remember, Ireland was as much their nation as it was anyone elses. And I'd also like to point out that they did believe that what they did would help their cause, and they weren't simply out to kill people.

I'm sorry but I can't agree to this, basically you are saying that the majority (southern Ireland) has the right to force their sovereignty over Northern Ireland, but the Northern Irish don't have the right to agree sovereignty with a vote?

Your replacing one oppressed people with another, splitting Ireland seems reasonably fair in my opinion.

No, I'm not. I'm saying that Northerners who wish to be part of the Republic are doing the fighting, not "Southerners". In fact, you'll find that most Southerners don't give two sh*ts about the North, and that any Nationalists in the Republic are from Donegal, a place that's tied to the hip of Derry and Tyrone, both geographically and economically, and would probably be in the North if it weren't for the large Catholic and Presbyterian communities there. You seem to think that everyone living in Northern Ireland are Unionists, which is completely wrong.

Religion =/= Religious extremists

Supporting the IRA is like supporting religious extremists.
Supporting religion is like supporting an independent Ireland.
