Is this legitimate reasoning?

Yeah, pretty illogical there. It's a bad, they make good music; who the members prefer shouldn't matter.

That's highly illogical. If he doesn't like them just because he was gay and because his religion states that's wrong, maybe not being open about liking them, but saying he hates them? That's stupid.

You're right, it IS horribly homophobic and bigoted. And I'm sorry, your friend ISN'T "a pretty good guy", he's a hateful douchebag and if you were gay he'd hate you and treat you like shit, even if you were in no other way different from how you are now. You shouldn't hang around with bastards like him- I know I'd certainly refuse to have anything to do with anyone who I knew held views like that.

Also, his point is STUPID. Queen are a BAND, they play MUSIC. It's not like Freddy Mercury will rise from the grave and hump his leg if he admits to liking 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. You can hate a band or musician if they've done something to actually earn you dislike (Gary Glitter, for example, did jail time for his child porn collection, which is repulsive), but letting that affect your opinion of their music (assuming they don't let their beliefs colour their music) is plain stupid.

It's an absurdly silly reason to dislike Queen, plus completely irrelevant, since, as already pointed out, Mercurie wasn't gay, he was bisexual. He loved EVERYONE.

I was talking with a few friends yesterday, and the topic changed to music after a while, specifically Queen. One of my friends (An extremely conservative, vocal Republican and bible-thumping Christian- I have nothing against those groups, and he's still a pretty good guy despite how annoying he sometimes gets) said that he used to love Queen, until he discovered that the main singer was gay, and now he hates them. Being a kind and polite kind of guy, I kept myself from bringing the topic up the faults in his reasoning and changed the topic.

Is this an actual reason to hate something? To me, this is a horribly homophobic and bigoted, but I'd like to see some other people's opinions on this.
It's dumb. Besides, Freddy wasn't gay, he was bi. If your friend is going to be a bigot he should at least get his facts correct.

Yes it's not very humane hating, but people hate all the time for good reasons, but most of the time for no reason at all.

Just like me, I seem to hate this bass
I just don't like it, for no reason at all.
I'm not a big fan of it too.

I'd like your opinion of the bass I'm getting.

looks like a bass for a hippie
(not that that is a bad thing)

How does it sound, must sound like a real groove machine
although 6 strings?
I find the 6 string necks way too thick for comfort, but if you can handle it, that's awesome.

No, just because one person in particular is in a Band, is not a good reason to hate the Band.
He loved Queens before he discovered that the main singer was gay, and now he still likes them, he just hates ?The main singer?/gay people. It's kind of obvious what he really doesn?t like since he starts hating Queens after he finds out about the main singer.
Now that I think of it, there?s a name for hating someone or something for no other reason than it being it.

Im the same as your friend, but Im not gonna stop liking a band just because one member is gay. that is illogical and people like your friend gives us conservatives a bad name.
Sorry, but its any conservative who acts on his conservative believes that bothers me. I can appreciate religion but anyone who claims the title 'conservative' is hiding bigotry in his sleeve. That's not to say conservatives are bad people, but you condemn sex, other religions, other races (though this may have evolved as Christianity always tends to do) and so many other things. And do you know for what reason? Social conditioning started from a time when hating such things was 'in'. Some white Christians hated black people, and so they declared it a sin to be black. Racism died down a bit and its no longer a problem, is it?

Sorry, I'm preaching against your beliefs, that's not fair and perhaps I've simply misunderstood every conservative I've ever met (I'm open for enlightenment if you've any light to shed), but please understand that to most people conservatives seem dim in color because the radical members turn the spotlight on them, not simply because they paint the group a deeper gray.

I have some enlightenment for you alright! We are all entitled to our own thoughts and word, i dont like what you say but i'll support your right to say it. I cant say im not mad, but it makes me happy that regular people like me are n ot getting in the way of what you beleive and what you wanna say.

It really isn't. I mean, it's not like your musical tastes will be changed if you find out that a singer is gay.

Before I answer your question I want to get your opinion on this logic.

1) I really liked Nirvana
2) Then Cobain killed himself
3) I no longer like Nirvana. The music is still good, but every time I listen to it I get mad about Cobain.

I could careless if one member of the movie/music etc is gay. Does it affect their performance. No it doesn't. I don't even believe in homosexuality and that is my stance.

That's fine logic, but my friend just flat-out STOPPED liking ANY of their music.

Personally, I don't care for most gays right away they receive a bad rap from me because of there sexuality but as long as they don't flaunt it I don't really care.

OT: I had the same thing happen to me once a friend of mine stopped liking a band he had loved for like a year, he had autographs galore shirts CD's and even a custom guitar to look like the main guitarist (don't ask me the band I forget) one night we were playing games and one of there songs come on and joking around I said wow these guys are gay. He said no there great I told him they were legitimately gay. He stopped liking them than and there.
