Is this racist, does my teacher have a right to punish me for this?

You shouldn't be punished for your own opinion especially in fucking psychology. You should be punished if you voice your opinion and a certain audience doesn't appreciate it but you didn't, only she saw it or did you present it in front of everybody?

Go talk to your principal or something and say what happened.

You certainly shouldn't be punished for your own opinion. Writing a paper about racial tolerance is dumb, besides even if you were racist it's not as if writing a paper would change your mind about it...

Total bullshit on your teachers part.

Sounds like a classic knee-jerk reaction. Yes skin colour is determined racially, sure, but so are things like height; hair colour and texture; eye colour; and so on. You know, all physical traits have a genetic component.

Am I racist if I find green eyes attractive? Is it racist against pygmies to find tall people attractive? No it's a sexual preference.

I can't believe she wouldn't listen to your explanation either... that is totally ridiculous, because schools are supposed to shut down communication and the exploration and defense of ideas /sarcasm.

That is... not racist. At all.
Your teacher is stupid, but always remember:
'Those that can't do, teach.'
(Note, this doesn't count for university staff, who also do research.)

Tell her that you are well within your rights to have sexual preferences, if you are as old as your profile says you are old enough to tell her what you mean and discuss it further like adults if she wants.

Assuming you've lied about that then take the second posters advice.

Also, call her out on her blatant homophobia for not asking what you find attractive in the same sex.

While I don't think your racist I agree that the term "colored people" is a bit racist

Honestly, even if you ARE racist, merely BEING racist is not a crime. There is no law saying you can't hate black people, nor should there be. ACTING on the fact that you hate a particular group is an issue, but just thinking something can hardly be held against you.

Include that in your paper. In fact, make it a paper about why trying to force everyone to be PC is just as bad as racism.

First of all, it is in our genetic code to be racist at least for reproductive reason. Second of all, your teacher is blowing this out of proportion. Third, racism is only bad if there is malicious intent behind it. I.e. punching a guy because he is white, not hiring a guy because he is Asian, etc, but not wanting to date someone because they are black. Why am I (you or anyone else) a bad person if I don't want to have sex with someone outside my race? Especially if I can treat them just like everyone else.

p.s. Moral of the story: 100% honesty screws you over in the adult world.
I don't hate people just for being not white. I can find a black or asian or hispanic person extremely attractive and a white person incredibly ugly. I'm just saying that it's one of many traits that I notice and have a certain preference about, like hair color or height or intellect.

Sometimes I'm a teacher myself and let me tell you, she just hates you for something else. Maybe you have done something wrong or you resemble a former students of hers who was a d*ck, or she resents the fact she is isn't your type. That's probably it. She deducted she isn't your type and Bam, extra work.

As already noted, go through the normal legal complaint routine (AFTER Doing the Extrawork, because you have very low chances of success if you refuse her direct order) Sit Back and Enjoy the show...

Oh by the way, she would probably argue that she didn't tell you to name the skin color. But yet you deliberately mentioned it. So be prepared for that argument.
Tell her that you could have said that you totally dig like Indian or Olive Skin tone, would that be racist? NO, so what she did is actual racial discrimination. So good luck with your stupid f*cked up teacher...

what was the punishment?
It was in the OP, I have to write a paper on racial tolerance, due tomorrow.
If I were you (which I am not), I would instead write a paper on how it is due to the constant reminder of racism and sexism in any environment is the leading cause of said topics still being an issue. The above quote by Yahtzee is also a good kicker as well. Seriously, the topic that she laid out for you (Qualities you find attractive in the opposite sex) is ENTIRELY subjective. There is NO objective manner to approach that topic, since every single persons preferences are different from person to person. To then punish someone for a subjective (and non-offensive) answer is not only hypocritical, but plain bullshit.

Bulllshiiiiit. I don't find black girls attractive but that doesn't make me racist. Your teacher is just a douche and punishing you for no reason.

Nothing wrong with it and she has no right to punish you for your own turn ons. I find dark skin tones less attractive than white ones. Why not spit this back in her face? Go to higher authority and say she's discriminating you on your sexual/romantic preferences.

I am sure reactions would have been totally different too if he used the word "Complexion" instead of "skin".

She was the only one to see it. And then she called me to her desk during class, while everyone else was working, and starting chewing me out about it, and THEN everyone heard it, and of course she basically turned "Prefers white skin" to "massive bigot who hates black people"

It is not racist if you ask me, but some things are better left unsaid. That doesn't mean that it is bad, just consider it a lie for the better good.

Are you SURE you're not leaving anything out, or demonstrating a little editorial bias with your recounting of this event? What was the exact language you used? Do you have any kind of history of demonstrating racial intolerance in front of that particular teacher?

I remember that lesson... I thinkn it wouldnt be racist even if you said I dont find black or asian skin colours to be attractive because its what you think. I dont find it attractive either so there ya go, not rascist (!)

OffT: my freind put down I like them to be japanese cartoons...

btw, does anyone think the term rascist is actually rascist because it is morally dividing the human race into smaller subraces that should be exactly the same?

BS touchy teacher who's just a wee bit PC. As already meantioned, talk to some higher-ups and explain the whole thing. And as already said, again, it's like saying that finding a brunette more attractive than a blonde being racist.

Also, even more BS to the teacher seeing as, if I got it correctly, white skin is a preference and not a must.
