Is this racist, does my teacher have a right to punish me for this?

I think your teacher is overreacting. If you prefer a certain haircolor, are you a hairist? I find taller men to be more attractive, am I a heightist?

Unfortunately, this isn't a fight worth pursuing. The more you protest, the more people will think that you're in the wrong and start wondering about your values. Just take your punishment and move on.

No, unsurprisingly one's own subjective standards on who one wish to have relationships with, in one's own personal life, isn't racist in the least.

The fact that I don't want to sleep with other dudes don't make me a sexist either.

If white dictate in plentiful supply then which chicks are ok to be put down as an option. when was in school l think there was only one coloured person. If you were in japan then chances are asian women would be more up your street... actually come to think of it what do you think would have happened if you put Asian or Russian.

They asked a question and answered. You should not be punished for your preference.
And if lam right in thinking you an American as said on your profile Free speech is meet to be a big deal. I really think you should complain on terms of incompetence and Free speech violation. You did nothing wrong what did you par ants say about it?

I would refuse to write it...what is the worced that can happen. You were not in the wrong. Having a preference is not wrong nore is it racest.

No, that is not racist. Even if you were to say 'I wouldn't date a black person' or any other ethnicity, it is not racist. It is a preference, not discrimination. Racism is when you project certain traits or discriminate against people because of their ancestry and race. As it happens, I like people with either dark or pale skin. I would speak to an authority figure like a guidance counselor at the school about the issue.
It is discrimination; it's just the reasonable kind, like how you discriminate between favourite foods or flavours of ice-cream or how you like to be entertained.

Noun
discrimination (plural discriminations)
1) a distinction; discernment, the act of discriminating, discerning, distinguishing, noting or perceiving differences between things.

OP: That in and of itself was not racist as long as you spoke purely through personal preference and standards of attractiveness and not simply because a person is of 'X' ethnicity.

well you didn't know any better at the time so it was just naivety; Racism is only if there was malice or ill-intent behind your words or actions. Still if you ONLY find white people attractive then you might have a bit of a problem.

Talk about the need for context in text...

Some people would see it and not care, others would be highly offended. You can hardly control how they think, nor should you, but do try and get the other person to understand where you are coming from. In this case however, where they refuse to listen, there is only so much you can do.

you should hand in the paper but instead of racial tolerance make it a single sheet listing all the organizations that have persecuted people based on their sexuality, race and religion, with youre teacher and school right at the top.
it is not racist to not be attracted to others of differing races, nor is it racist to be attracted solely to said other races, racism is claiming that all members of a race act in the same manner as a stereotype that you or others have created, or basing the actions of a single individual as indicative of the race as a whole.
hand the paper in, the march straight to the principle and tell him that the teacher has been infringing youre right's.
also i may be wrong but this looks a little sexual harassment-ish to me. "whats youre sexuality? NO! YOU MUST HAVE THE SAME AS ME!!"

It was in the OP, I have to write a paper on racial tolerance, due tomorrow.
I'd take the opportunity to demolish this stupid idea of hers. Both an incorrect interpretation of what racism entails, and an arguable infringement on your personal liberties? Go nuts.

its not racist at all, unless you say "no, im not going to date you, because you're asian/ black/ the flying spaghetti monster."
a whole paper on 'racial tolerance' is bullshit even if you are a bloody racist, because what racist is going to have a long thought about it.

i suppose her logic makes gay people sexist.

I'd recommend talking to a principal or other teacher. A sexual attraction to a certain race is not racist.

She requested an opinion, you've given it. The reason for it not being racist has already been given numerous times above, but I wouldn't recommend confronting her with it. Perhaps go to your counselor/parents/even principle and sort this out?

I agree that you should talk to a parent or school personal. Really since your teacher is seeing you as racist when you aren't and won't let you explain you might as well.

Really it's wrong for people to just assume that you are a bigot just because of such things.

Just because you say you are attracted to men doesn't mean you hate woman.

Just because you want a christian girl doesn't mean you hate all religions, you just want someone of similar faith.

Apparently your psychology teacher knows nothing about psychology. Judging by your use of words, you are white. A white person who likes other white people. OMG tell me it isn't so!!! :O

-_-

Psychology and sociology plays a part. Some believe fetishes come from childhood experiences. So if thats true, your experience involved a white person, who likely had dark hair and a healthy figure. Height seems to be more of a sub/dom thing than a fetish. Using the same logic, one could say I, a white guy, prefer darker skin tones over paler ones because of the hostility and racism from my family towards non-whites which I do not hold.

I wouldn't write the paper. I'd tell her that's exactly what she asked for, and that's how I feel about the subject. That is your opinion of what is attractive, and you are completely entitled to it. I don't find that racist at all; it's just preference.

No, you are not. Your teacher clearly doesn't understand what racism is, she is the one who should write that paper.
Also, report this bullshit to her superior.

snip to get your attention.
shes in the wrong, you did nothing but answer her question. like some have said tell your parents and/or another staff member in a good position to do something. I personally would also refuse to write the paper and accuse her of being prejudice (assuming you meant to be racist sound prejudice right?)

though i also advise not to go at it on your own as if you cock it up it will probably make it worse (I.E might sound racist or disrespectful).

Darwinian theory dictates that sexual selection is most likely the main cause for differing skin colours. So in other words, the main reason some are black and others are white is because of some's sexual preference is towards lighter or darker skin colour. Saying you find one race more attractive than the other is about the only non-racist distinction you can make between them. So your teacher's a plank.

You made no positive statement regarding people of any other ethnicity.

Your teacher jumped down your throat based on an assumption. Attraction is entirely subjective and she has no right to lay false accusations on you because your sexual preferences.

I'm curious if she'd have found it racist had you listed another race.
