Is this really what young gamers these days are becoming

It's a joke. A fairly common joke that has many variations in the form of "like" pages, and its parodying various aspects of teenagers lives. There is one that I have seen which says "he doesn't play COD? Marry him" (paraphrased)

So, really, it's nothing to be all up in arms about.

Also, I text back straight away if I am playing a single player game regardless of where I am and what I am doing. In multiplayer, I wait till the game's end or a long timed death (or tactical retreat for games like LoL) before doing anything. The longest wait is 20 minutes tops.

It was a joke that you didn't find funny. I see jokes that I don't find funny all the time, but I don't go on the internet and complain about it.

You'll have to excuse me for saying so, but this seems more like a cry for attention than anything else. "Hey, look at me, I'm older than you, and I'm a better person than you." I think my older brother said that exact same thing to me... when I was 7 and he was 12. We grew out of it. What is your evidence that a majority of gamers behave like this? What is your evidence that even 5% of gamers behave like this? One person on Facebook making a stupid joke?

And what is this "gamers treat their xbox better than their girlfriends" fad? I've never even heard of that.

Alright, I have formulated a new theory. Any person who posts something like that must be murdered. Brutally.
Humour.

Its a JOKE. Murdering someone for a joke that quite honestly is one of the most harmless i've heard all year is a tad over the top.

....The Escapist, everyone!

Where if someone make a joke or post an article. People will over-react without reading into it.

Yeah it's just a joke, but usually I dont respond to anything till im done with games.

As an avid Starcraft 2 player it's a bit hard to pause when you're playing online against someone.

And if someone asks, I'll just straight up tell um im busy playing a game. If a girl asks if the game is more important than her? I'll say absolutely it is.

If I ever go out I find myself just wanting to go back home and play games though. It's just what Im comfortable with. That and people suck.

There are people that take Facebook seriously?

Learn something new everyday.
That's what I was thinking. Even if people did, they live sad little lives.

OT: I've seen that before, and all I could think was, some dude pausing a game to reply to a text and that constitutes twu wuv? Wow, I hope he didn't put too much effort into that text....

Just a quick question, though. How old is the person who wrote the comment? That might solve your dilemma.
soon to be 19 young by some standards but i still consider myself old enough to hate youth without a good reason. SO HAH I TWIRL MY MUSTACHE AND LAUGH AT YOUR MISFORTUNE!!!!!
If you are this jaded at 19, life is basically gonig to suck for you for the next 80 years if not more, so why do you do this to yourself? Try to enjoy the world around you and forgive people for being younger than you, liking things you dont like, and doing things you dont do. Because, someone is/has probably looking at you and thinking the exact same thing.

Also, the world literally revolves around cause and effect. If people act like it's rude for you to be calling them (all of the time) dont call them. I grew to hate the telephone before cell phones were even popular, I try to hide that when I am talking to people on the phone but I digress.

And another thing, some 2,500 years ago people cried out that society was sliding down a bottomless pit of degredation because Greek Satire had become so popular with Greek youths. Look around you, think about all that mankind has done since then and is still capable of accomplishing, perhaps this VERY OLD trend of blaming the youth for the FICTIONAL destruction of mankind should finally DIE OF OLD AGE.
yes i am jaded yes i am cynical but in reality its mostly all from a twisted comedic standpoint when you get down to the core of this lollipop im really quite acceptive of people of all types i just choose to be like this for comedic relief from my current life situation that brought the cynicism and all that to start, the only real reason i dont like little kids is because when im near them people get the wrong idea another example some of my best friends could be called hipsters and emo kids i openly say i hate hipsters and emo kids but in reality i only dislike people who try to be who they arent, and really hipsters have some pre cool ideas if a quick browse on tumblr has taught me anything and i originally posted this because i felt it was worth bashing my head to think that some people have come to accept the stereotype that gamer guys will ignore significant others because of video games

Clearly these kids havent been raised right. I remeber back in the day i had to play my dad's old NES and SNES and ther ewas no pausing or saving the game. Once you started, by god you were going to finish, come hell heaven or high water.

oka actually being serious, its not so much a state of how gamers are now, more so as its just the perception of gamers. The perception of young people in general is that all of us (ill include my generations ince im only 19 and people think of kids my age this way) is that we're all gutter apes raised without manners who would no sooner take the last handicapped spot and fake a limp just to park close to a store or let a door slam in your face then we would raid a hot topic or spencers for our goth/metal gear. And with gamers, always seen as the social outcast basement shut in who never interacts with at least the other bands of misfit people who dare be under the age of 30, the idea is multiplied ten fold.

Now i'll admit, theres always bad apples, but really we all know that that generalization above is just not true. The Facebook post is just someone using an old and tired stereotype (and a rather sexist one at that) trying and failing to be funny.

Its alot like the FB posts now that say ag irl is so many weeks pregnant even though they're not.

...

Though me just being an ass, i want to go on facebook now and say "men, if your woman needs to be told twice to get you a beer and a sandwich from the kitchen, you're faililng as a husband" and wait to see the hate I'd get. But of cours Im a better person then that, so I wont.

I chose gaming over socializing any day , Video games don't judge me , Women do . I wish i was joking , but i'm not. I'm so socially akward that i avoid any and all socializing with people ( men or women , but i'm more uncomfortable around women , again wish i was joking ). I honestly do prefer to play games than to pick up a phone ( god i hate talking on the phone )even out of courtesy .

I'm the same way. I'm hella fat, and if i could grow proper facial hair i'd be one of the dreaded Neckbeards Yahtzee speaks of in terrified whispers.

and i'm 26 o_O

Exactly, these are the same youth that are saying if you're not on facebook you don't exist.

Just like those people who say the world will end in 2012 ... if people say it enough they start to believe it. There are much funnier things to joke about than 'don't make plans for next year, huurrrr hurrr it won't matter anyway'

In other words, I vote justification of your grumpedness.

I may be young (I'm twenty, so maybe not that young) and I regularly die during multiplayer games because I'm texting my girlfriend. Sure my friends don't like it, but she's more important
Oh, you're that guy. The guy that thinks even the most mundane form of contact with his girlfriend should take priority over everything else. It's just a text; why not wait for a pause in the action before replying? Reeks more of desperation than the moral high ground.

I have known people like you, although they're not really in my circle of friends anymore. Choose your girlfriend over your friends at every opportunity and eventually you'll only have your girlfriend to choose. If that's all you want, more power to you.

(Think that's all just hot air? Ask yourself why America has more people diagnosed with stuff like ADD when countries like Japan have so fewer cases. Must be something in the water supply.)
This just in: cultural attitudes toward illness and disability (especially specific illnesses and disabilities) have no effect on diagnosis rates! Good to know, eh?

While you're asking yourself the above, you might also ask yourself why the U.K. has fewer diagnosed cases of ADHD compared to the U.S., despite also belonging to the fast-paced capitalist West.

Did you know that the NHS website's old page on ADHD contained significant amounts of information which was either 30 years out of date or just outright wrong, as well as claiming that fewer than 2% of all children actually have the disorder (a ludicrously low number even for early estimates of prevalence)? Did you know that the site only updated to reflect current understanding of ADHD in 2008 - a good ten years or more after resources in the U.S. began to update?

It's not like the information wasn't readily available; it just wasn't accepted. Find an ADHD forum, and check what people have to say about the utterly shit attitude they get from most health care providers in the U.K.

(Yes, I picked this minor, unrelated point off the first page. But man, I fucking hate when people reference "common knowledge" to make their point when said "common knowledge" is, at best, a gross oversimplification of a complex issue. Dude, there are places in the world where ADHD is often not diagnosed simply because understanding of it clashes with established cultural attitudes, and people don't want it to be.)
