I never really understood why people hate the new three Star Wars movies, I mean Phantom Menace wasn't great, but they got better with age, and Revenge of the Sith stood out as a great addition to the series. Then I came upon this comic, which explained why some people hate episodes 1, 2, and 3. Is this really the reason?! Are Star Wars fans really pissed off by this?! Really?! This is insignificant to me. I didn't even notice it when I watched Phantom Menace the first few times. Please help me here, I'm completely lost.
Midichlorians took took destiny and turned it into genetic supremacy.

In the prequels, Darth Vader started out as a having a basically average personality, only with Super Powers. I didn't *want* Darth Vader to be normal. I wanted him to be epic, from birth to the grave.

But the biggest thing- the biggest, overwhelming thing- is the contradictions. Leia originally said she remembered her mother as "Kind, but sad." In the prequels, Leia's mother dies like 10 seconds after giving birth, thus making it impossible for Leia to have any memories of her. Obi-wan originally said he started out as reckless, but in the prequels he appears to have always been cautious and reserved.

I never hated them, in fact I liked all of them, but I don't find them anywhere near as interesting as the originals. I found the original adventure a lot more exciting and epic which gives them an instant win.

This is pretty much the truth. YMMV but I thought the prequels were pretty good. Episode one was a little lame, but 2+3 were great. Anakin's relationship felt a little forced an awkward, but it didn't destroy the whole movie. And I don't get what the problem is with Jar Jar, he's only in episode 1 and he's not even that annoying. No less annoying than the ewoks anyway

It was everything really. Besides a few of the fight scenes, those movies weren't really that good. Jar-Jar also had a huge part to play in that.

The prequels were definetly worse than the originals, but i don't think they were that bad. Probably because i was little when i watched it. The whole explanation of the force was unessecary, and Jar Jar Binks was pretty annoying, but i don't it's really "bad", just nowhere near as good as the originals.

I loved the prequels. except 3. I mean the first three times I watched it, when I still was a litle dude, they were awesome. I booted it up again, and god, was I disappointed by the acting, the Special effects, everything!

I just didn't like it because it sucked, they had maybe 2 or 3 good actors in the entire thing, and Aniken was just a lazy ass, whiny ***** that wanted people to give him stuff then had hissy fits when he didn't get his way, not to mention he turns to the dark side for the worst reason ever. Those movies made me almost lose faith in Vader as a villain that's how bad they were.

I wonder why after knowing how jedis work, the Emperor didn't just inject midichlorians into clone troopers to make them beefed-up force wielding troops(if possible with working, accurate blasters complete with a lightsaber bayonet)...

....Gentlemen,ladies,I believe I'm onto something here.

Y'know what... I don't even know what to think anymore.

I saw the first three episodes and thought they weren't bad when the general consensus was that they were shit.

I saw Avatar as a liberal, pandering shitpiece of a script that glossed over its unoriginality and gaping plot holes by looking pretty, and everyone else thought it was good enough to make a religion out of.

I... am clearly not on the same page as anyone else. I'm going to just say "Fuck you, Maddox, Ebert, everyone, my opinion is my own," and leave it at that, because I'm not going to get any points by jumping on the bandwagon that is apparently inversely proportional to my own one-man pack animal.
Well said- about Avatar. I disliked the prequels a lot, but I guess there were some good points.

The second one was allrighty..
THe first one was.. duuurge.. mesa blows mesa selfs up! whee!
THird one sucked because there was no brutal execution of jarjar.

The disaster was that it was actually lucas who made the prequals.. while he was really on the sideline (according to Fisher) when making Episode V. (which is -the- best)

Porblem with watching star wars prequels you know whats going to happen so your sitting in episode 1 thinking "when will he turn to the darkside" then the same with ep 3 then finally your just like "i want him to wear the suit".

I really don't think the prequels were THAT bad. If I remember, midichlorians were only mentioned in the Phantom Menace, and that was also the only film to cast that idiot Jar-Jar as one of the main characters.

I can, however, see why Yahtzee despises webcomics so much from that example.

I enjoyed the Phantom Menace. I thought it was still very Star Wars. I got over Jarjar and the Gungans. What I didn't like was awful acting, rubbish CGI, awful dialogue and some completely non-required plot twists. If he had made 1,2,3 with the same love and attention he had made the others it could have worked but he just didn't. I Iactually left the cinema during 3 the start of it was so bad and what the hell was with Padmé popping out kids and panting 'luke', 'leia' *death*. Especially when Leia talks about the fact she remembers her mom a little in the 6th movie but she always seemed sad.

You got the lore wrong in your own movie dude!

The way I see it, if your a true Star Wars fan, you won't let something so damned petty make you hate half of the movies.

While every prequel, in my opinion, has awesome elements, there are several bits that stand out as incredibly stupid that drag them down. Real quick:

Episode 1
Good - Liam Neeson, Podracing, Terrance Stamp, Greg Proops as an announcer
Bad - Gungans, Anakin blowing up the droid ship, Watto, Midichlorians

Episode 2
Good - Obi-Wan being awesome, Mace Windu announcing the party is over, Yoda in a duel
Bad - Clone plot's giant holes, really painful romance sequences, Christopher Lee's phoned in performance

Episode 3
Good - Most of the opening sequence, Final duel save the ending, Emperor versus Yoda, Anaking bringing up the 'point of view' bit
Bad - Buzz droids, 'high ground' and the infamous twirly flurry sequence, Emperor vs Mace and 3 expendable jedi, 'breaking my heart'

So there is good in each film, no question, but note for every good sequence I had something negative, and the fact is when you're hitting so many bad for so many good you're just getting torn out of the experience. There's a lot I didn't mention for each film either, most notably the third one and everything wrong with Grievous.

A religion out of Avatar? That must be a pretty sad religion. Besides, I thought it was kind of a given that it sucked seeing how it died out right after everyone and their dog saw it and realized it was horrible. Of course, in the meanwhile everyone and their dog saw it so yeah, it still looked like the next best thing since sliced bread for about a week.

About the OP: that page was clearly a jab towards some parts of fandom that just can't tell when it doesn't help being ridiculously nerdy. Granted: the midichlorians are a kick in the balls to all the continuity and what little "canon" was built around the force, it's doubly insulting because it's mentioned as a cheap cop out to say "His power level is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAND" and that's it, they're never, ever mentioned again. Ever.

But seriously, that's not the sole and only reason for which they sucked. The acting was horrible, the script was ridiculous, and they managed to make Darth Vader come across as some sort of whiny emo kid that watched too much DBZ. Seriously, special effects don't make people automatically cool, no matter how much you spend on them.

I think that's the problem and it's funny you brought up Avatar because I believe that's what happened there too: 11 years of work on special effects, a single A4 paper written in Times new roman in 5 minutes for the plot. Which was probably the draft for some Pocahontas rip-off anyways.

EDIT: I thoroughly recommend ANYONE you enjoyed the prequels to watch the entire series. Its a chunk of time but it explains in detail all the terrible elements of those films.
