I've got an iMac and it loads in 10 times quicker than my dad's PC, it's never crashed, I've never had to re-install it about 8 times a year (at least) to reinstall the OS and it doesn't come to a grinding halt if I try and, god forbid, multi-task.

It's each to their own. Some people hate Macs some people hate PCs. I don't like PCs myself, but I don't understand why people get all worked up over it and seemingly ready to kill someone!

No computer is un-hackable. If people can hack into Government computers (as I saw not long ago on the news) then of course they'll eventually get into a home computer. Mac's are just made differently so the viruses designed for windows can't get in, but it's pretty obvious that some smart-arse hacker will be able to get through one of these days. It's inevitable.

Way to tell everyone where the flaw is located so people will take advantage of it now. I swear the media is retarded.....
doesnt matter, with a pathetic less than 20% of market share macs are still not worth the 10 seconds it would take to hack them by professional thieves, and any half baked hacker would go for something w/ more of a challenge.

Yeah the Pc was terrible, he's aaaaalways having to reinstall it - I even bought a Windows laptop to begin with but nope, that was riddled with viruses in under 12 months and I had Norton and the usual Windows firewall running at full pelt.

I think my dads has 2GB memory but I think it's the processors that are crappy because it just makes this horrible crunching noise when you try and do anything!

Yeah right. And the pink fluffy bunnies too...

you're kiddin' me? So Vista and win7 are not macOS in disguise? Or maybe you need to see a 5yo macOS running side by side with vista, that should be hilarious.

2GB Memory on Vista is most likely the problem right there. Though I suppose the counter-argument is that Macs don't need that much. Hehe.

But anyway! The virus problem is more an inherent problem with the Windows Firewall and Norton. Norton might as well not be running for all the good it usually does, and it will royally screw a computer you try to uninstall it from. I say use Avast! If you ever get another Windows machine. Works WAAAAAY better, its free, and does all the nifty things that Norton SAYS that it does.

So all in all, I guess Macs are more secure, no one tries to hack them. But Avast does a pretty good job of keeping a Windows machine safe.

Hurray! A pc vs mac flame war!
Like we haven't had those before yet.

Is it that inconceivable to some that some people just like working with a mac because of it's OS? It it hard to image people actually do prefer the look for a mac over half a refrigerator PC or a plastic lunch box laptop?
Do you know that there are people that actually do work with both windows and os X because they believe they both have their merits and obviously flaws?

Macs have had nothing other OS's haven't had to deal with before. Oh, it's now hackable, big whoop! I'm sure Windows will now gloat over OS X's demise if it got some resources to spare that aren't dedicated to running several firewalls, anti-viruses and spyware removers. Yes, if only them mac-boys could count themselves so lucky...

Dear god, I thought we'd be smarter by now.

Hey, this looks suspiciously pro-mac.. I do own both though, I prefer mac for working, got a power hungry windows monster for my.. uh.. entertainment and other geekery.

Of course not, that would require empathy or (god forbid!) some intelligence!

these threads are funny considering both companies need each other, if either one went away the other would be a monopoly and have to be broken up. I personally use a PC because I'm a gamer. also this:

I have heard before alot of PC users whining that Macs are no good for gaming - last I heard they weren't designed for huge WAGAMAMAMPORGERS, they're designed for working and photoshopping and stuff.

Can't we all just get along? It's like motherboard racism. Yeesh.

If computers put out horsepower ratings like cars..do you know how much HP it takes to do photoshop tasks?

my mom has a 1999 450Mhz PowerMac G4 "Yosemite" with I think a..LVD SCSI 13kRPM hard drive and it takes AGES for her to do anything..and the machine is almost maxed out at 1.8GB of PC133 SDRAM...

A "gaming" rig will usually have at least 2GB of RAM..and it'll have either a dual or quad core processor setup..so in essence your PC gamers could do photoshop tasks (gaussian blur) as easily as one setup for just graphics/photoshop work.

I remember reading that having the 2nd video card in your SLi/CrossFire rig could be used as a physx card co-processor or something like that..and it could help take the load off the processor..

I have noticed that pretty much everything on a Mac takes up more space, more RAM etc, but I just personally like them better. My Mac's quiet, it runs nice and fast has a tonne of hard drive space, does it's job, is great for watching films, my desk isn't cluttered (come on, Windows folk, you have to admit, having a minimal approach is much tidier - I couldn't physically fit a tower block without having it on top of my desk - no thanks! and as for all those wires...)

Macintosh just preys on the computer illiterate. Even if you ACTUALLY LIKE their OS, do yourself a favor, build your own computer and load it on to there (if you can, I've never heard of anyone trying that, big surprise).
You shouldn't base your own opinions on hearsay.

Explain to me how OS X is for the computer illiterate, while windows is not? What about linux?
Is it because windows uses this abomination called "Registry" which noone knows anything about and most people dare not and should not touch with a ten feet stick?

Also, people do put OS X on their non-apple machines. It has an entire scene. Legal? Not exactly. Easy, not really. But possible, provided that you pick the right hardware.

I also think that most people who buy a mac don't buy them for the purpose of upgrading every year. Let's be fair, most people who buy a pc don't know enough to attempt upgrading either. They buy a brand 'ex. DELL) and after a few years, when the old one starts squeaking and looking blue, they get a new one.

Yeah, the Apple things are more expensive. You get something extra on the outside. Call if designer products if you want. You don't just pay extra for the logo, but also for how it looks. Less clutter as afaceforradio said. A pretty thing for your pretty desk in your pretty house if you're into that stuff.

Though I feel it doesn't really apply to their macbooks. Get a sony, dell, hp or whatever laptop that matches a macbook (pro)s specs, and you'll pay a lot for them too. Less, maybe, but it won't look as neat or , dare I say, pro.

I've been tasked with upgrading 5 dell desktops..the upgrades went fine..no different than upgrading my old 2Ghz single core AMD with AGP graphics.

I've also done laptop repair (nothing more fun than taking apart a laptop all the way just to get to the power plug) and upgraded wifi/BT cards and RAM in laptops.

If you know what you are doing(my sister who's a RN, can't touch her settings in her wireless router without fuxing it up..) then usually it's ok..however if you don't know the first thing about computers other than what the salesperson told you..then stick to taking it to people who do know what they are doing.

If you do take it to someone you know that is knowledgeable, well what helps the MOST is stating the problem in as few as words as possible without resorting to calling components "that thing" "the doohickey"(where they usually plug their printer or scanner into)..Just say "Help me get more memory so my programs run faster"
or "I need more space for my artwork or pictures" or "I want to burn CDs or DVDs"

in as few words as possible
Keep it simple stupid
