It's like motherboard racism. Yeesh.
But.. my bios is better than yours!
Anyway, in case you haven't seen [A HREF=http://www.theonion.com/content/video/apple_introduces_revolutionary]the latest mac revolution[/A]. Yes, windowzers, you know you want one, don't ya?
Thanks for proving your point that the
typical Mac user is pretentious, ignorant, and easily amused by gimmicks while defending the position that we shouldn't discriminate between the two platforms...
The video was funny though, I was laughing before it started at the source you routed me to.

Um... I regedit pretty frequently. When uninstall routines don't remove everything, manual virus removal... regedit. My point is I like the ability to manually manage the registry. Sure, I only use it when I'm fixing a problem but that's the whole point. I have a much greater ability to fix software problems than a Mac user does, and since there's no computer immune to software issues this is kind of a big deal.
There's a whole culture devoted to putting HEMI engines on everyday objects, like lawnmowers. There's niche appeal for everything.
I agree that the average PC user doesn't custom build their rig and isn't interested in compulsive upgrades, but they can more easily upgrade. When I upgraded my home network to Wireless N I wanted to be able to utilize the upgrade on my laptop so I bought an expresscard. There's not PC card slot on a Macbook Pro.
Also, if we're going to operate on conjecture instead of published fact I'd like to point out that the way Apple releases a new version of their Macbook every year is designed exactly for people to sell the old version and buy the new because it's trendier. Their hardware does seem to hold up longer however.
If you're the kind of person who prides themselves on owning designer products... well, there's really no talking sense to you in the first place. And if you're buying your desktop for its aesthetics you're doing it wrong.
Finally, to the numbers:
I just bought a Sony FW series for 1,616$ including a 3 year warranty with accidental damage coverage and tax. it looks like this
To me the aesthetics aren't that big of a deal, but that's a pretty sexy laptop IMO
To get a Macbook Pro with the same (as close as possible) hardware I would have to spend 2,398$ before tax (and the warranty doesn't cover accidents). And yeah, it looks good:
But I forgot to mention: It has 2GB less memory, a lower resolution screen, no blu-ray support, and only a 512MB dedicated video card compared to my 1GB dedicated. So I don't care how good Macbook Pro's look, they aren't built to game and are WAY overpriced
