As my otaku-focused community service for the day, I've heard of this manga that apparently has an enormous fanbase among people who frequent the internet a lot. It's apparently quite the hit on /a/ and /v/ due to hitting too close to home (to the point where wester fans imported the manga, despite quite a few of them not knowing japanese, just to support the manga-ka). Escapist, I present to you "It's Not My Fault I'm Not Popular".

HER EYES
WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER EYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEES?!

But yeah I generally prefer a bit of adventure to my animu. I flicked through some pages, and the art-style kind of turned me off, as did the whole 'slice of life' thing that I'm not a fan of.

Reading stuff on that website is pretty obnoxious, I'll try to see if I can just download it anywhere.

Wouldn't a more accurate translation of the title be "No Matter How You Think About It, It's Your Fault I'm Not Popular"?

Nope: "It's not my fault I'm not Popular" is a way better translation.

Ahahaha, of course it hits too close to home. It's a story about a "cute" girl who is just as much of an unpopular shut-in as her readers, and who is ~*~beautiful~*~ inside and eventually finds love.

This is pure crack for socially awkward nerds. I'll give it a pass, though, manga ain't my thing. And even if it were, this is far too shamelessly pandering to take seriously.

It's not pirated because it's not licensed outside of Japan, thus not piracy.

No, thus you're not going to be prosecuted for it. It's still completely illegal.

I read it all yesterday and well, thus far (as the series is not complete) she hasn't found love or friendship at all. I think the story is setting itself up to be rather tragic, really.

It's legal please stop talking out of your ass and do some proper research before making an argument.

Have you been anywhere near anime/manga circles at all? Ever? I was sure it was complete common and accepted knowledge that every manga is translated and uploaded onto The Internet by some fangroup or another and you're acting really surprised by it. Then again i've been reading manga since at least 14 years old so yeah.

The general consensus last time I checked was that most manga companies consider it free advertising and considering how many mangas and anime series I have bought solely because i've found them before on The Internet I would agree.

But yes technically it is illegal. I think. Though I would say it's a victimless crime that actually makes money for the manga companies in the long run.

Anyway OT, ehhhhh the art isn't the best and I wasn't that impressed by the first issue. If I want a manga based on a socially awkward gamer I would just go back to The World God Only Knows. Y'know the best manga ever created by a human? That shit is so hype!

The second best would probably be Future Diary, for featuring the #1 Yandere of all time. Yuno you crazy *****. Also the title reminds me of this for some reason

Meh, I think I'll stick with Welcome to the NHK. That one actually makes me laugh even as it makes me incredibly depressed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scanlation

According to international copyright law, such as the Berne Convention, scanlations are illegal. Patrick Macias wrote for The Japan Times that there seems to be an unspoken agreement between scanlators and publishers; once a series obtains an English-language license, English-language scanlators are expected to police themselves.
I did "some proper research," and turns out I was in fact right. It's illegal, but until it's licensed, nobody cares enough to prosecute over it. If you're unfamiliar with the Berne Convention, it's the international law under which content copyrighted in one signatory country is automatically considered copyrighted in all of them.

Did...did you seriously just claim that I have no idea what I'm talking about, then agree that I was right? What? Really? I know nobody prosecutes over them when they're unlicensed. You might have surmised that I knew this from the fact that I said it. I did not act surprised that scanlations exist. All I was pointing out is that the forum rules say not to link to pirated content, and that therefore the people who were linking to pirated content in this thread should maybe avoid doing that.
