You are so clever and original.

How about looking for nice sunshine and ass kissing threads? Or you can make your own.
I wasn't trying to be ether, just honest

of coarse I must have been completely wrong in feeling things get a bit too negative now and again, judging by your lovely response
You're also just honestly off topic.

There's always someone making these responses, and they are always out of place. I have no idea why you came into this thread (ok, I do). I ignore some threads when I don't want to discuss certain topics, I know you can to.

less complaining about games

seriously I'd like to hear somone say somthing nice for a change
I'm with this.

OT: QTEs are fine if they're not overdone like in ResEvil6.
Personally I would like less traditional tutorials in games, when creativity has clearly influenced the start of a game it makes a good impression on me. Borderlands 1 for example - you get your ECHO device which boots up progressively, labeling each HUD element briefly as it appears. Then you get your gun and it's time to go. Simple as that; no running around ducking under random pipes or shooting bottles. The game respects your intelligence by assuming you can decipher the HUD instead of spamming in-depth text messages. Far Cry 2 was pretty terrible for pop-ups: RT TO SHOOT. Really Ubi? I thought maybe if I wiggled my fingers at the screen my gun would fire X_X I guess part of it is not wanting the devs to treat me like I've never played a game before.

What would you like to see less of in games? (not what games do you want less of).

3. (completely) Regenerating health

It has it's good points. No need for health packs, no being stuck with one hp with no options. But the type when it's "ten second breather, all better" does two things for me.

It devalues your life/sense of preservation...(doesn't matter if I get shot chucking a couple of grenades, I'll just lie down again and be back to normal). It decreases tension in the game and slows combat down. Middle of a fight...oh, I'll just take a little breather. That's one aspect that made space marine so refreshing compared to gears, if you were low on health you had to charge forwards and perform an execution kill to regain it.
I totally agree with this. Though not possible in modern military shooters, sci-fi games have the possibility of doing this differently: you have 3 health bars, one for health, one for armor and one for shields. Shields regenerate automatically, armor is only replenished by finding repair kits, and health does not replenish at all. The enemy needs to get through your shields before damaging armor, and through armor before damaging health

What I hate the most is the red haze or veins (mass effect grr) that appear when we take damage. Damn i hate that. Not only is it distracting, it also partially obscures vision. I know that's the point, but it's still shit.

I remember when QTEs were first becoming popular with RE4 they were hailed as being ground breakingly innovative.. now look at them. They are overused and it seems like every game has them now.

I swear my X button on my original dualshock 3 got worn out mostly due to resident evil 5.

There are a few games that did some of these QTEs and health regenerating in a decent manner. Mass Effect 1 and 3 as a more recent example that I can think right now had an OK regenerating health ideea, while 2 was absurd with whole health regenerating after a few seconds. It made the health packs usefull only for additional experience.
As for QTEs I really enjoyed them most in some older Tomb Raider games, where if you`d fail you would get to see Lara dying or being eaten in some really funny ways.

I like the way the Riddick games did it. You have four (or up to eight) blocks of health. Every time you get hurt, it takes away from the block. If the block is completely gone, it is gone. If any of it is still there, it will regenerate was you go so long without being hit. Then there are health stations that can refill the blocks, but they can also run out.

4. Games that require an internet connection to play the single player ala Diablo 3.
This. Looking at you, 'Games For Windows'. You add nothing to the experience, you merely add a needless restriction and make it more difficult to get started if its your first GFW game.

Expanding on QTEs...I think deadspace did it well, in the sections where you're grabbed and have to shoot the arm before its too late. There are no button prompts, you press buttons with an intent on the outcome (ie I'll lead the shot and then shoot, not just press x and see what happens because I was told to). GOW ascension seems to be trying to make QTEs more organic so you choose whether to hit/block and when. Hopefully all the other games will follow suite once again.

Another one for me is perishable items. Hardly a big issue I know, but not one I enjoy. Sure it adds to the realism, but it either leads to massive amount of time sorting through my inventory trying to preserve them, or completely ignoring the mechanic and tossing out all the rotten stuff at regular intervals.

I remember when CoD 2 released, and reviewers were talking about how they didn't like the regenerating health. After a few years it became the industry standard, and games have become worse for it.
"Smoke grenades won't be the difference between life and death, since you can rapidly regenerate health. Yep, as long as you duck behind something for a few seconds, after taking a bullet or three in the face, you'll be just fine. You won't be able to sit on grenades or dive into a nest of angry Germans, but you'll be able to stick and move like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even an MG42 is manageable, as long as you have something solid in between it and you. Hide, pop up, fix, fire, drop back down, repeat ad infinitum. This Wolverine-like feature will be essential in certain high-powered engagements, but I would sooner have health packs or a medic, rather than be able to take hordes of enemies almost single-handedly. It's cool for a while, but then things get a little too easy, once you get the rhythm down. And it's there on all difficulty levels, and in multiplayer. The only way you're going to die is if you can't somehow escape from a grenade or if you stumble into several enemies at once, where their melee attacks will make quick work of you. The amount of damage you can handle dwindles quite a lot as you ramp up the difficulty levels, but you'll always be able to fully recover from pretty serious damage."

Regenerating health removes most of the challenge, since I'm nigh indestructable. There shouldn't be little reason not to charge directly into enemy fire. Playing games with this mechanic always makes me think of this scene...

The thing I hate most in a game is poor controls. Regenerating health and QTEs pale in comparison before how annoying I find controls. Rockstar, I'm looking at you (GTA4, RDR). It's also one of the reasons why Far Cry 3 is better than 2. Also, as much hate as I may recieve from a mainly anti-CoD community (vocally at least) but this is why CoD is so popular, I think. The controls are just so smooth.
