It seems Billie Joe Armstrong doesn't like only having "one fucking minute"

I always liked their songs but the bank itself was meh. (key word in sentence is "liked")
However, after this, I actually support them.
If Usher and Rihanna took time out of my performance I would fight to be on stage just for my fans.

Hell, I'd be pissed too.

Also, Is it really that hard to destroy a guitar? It took him 5 hits...
Well, consider that the main body is (probably) solid wood, and that the only part that broke off (the neck) wasn't receiving a beat down. From what I could tell, it snapped off clean, meaning that the force that was going through the guitar as it was being smashed against the stage was too much for the glue that held the neck in place to hold.

So, yeah. There's that possibility.

I can understand why he'd be pissed.

I liked how Dirnt, the bass player, joined in with the smashing. Did he want to help Billie Joe look less crazy? Or was he just having a good time?
I imagine he was late for the show and just went along, thinking he was supposed so. <3

Fair play to the man, what an exit. He ended his set on a bang and within his time schedule still, managing to look even more awesome.

Well, his eloquence more or less explains the lyrical range of Green Day's repertoire.

I get the sentiment, but it's kind of pathetic at the same time.

I always remembered this guy as being a total jerk to his fans.
Really? I mean, I haven't followed them closely or anything, but every time I catch glimpses of them, they are awesome to their fans. There was a story I heard a few years back where they took a fan on stage and let him play the guitar for one of their hits.
I was at that concert.

And the guy you quoted is thinking of Radiohead. Those guys treat their fans like garbage.

Don't blame him one bit, you do not cut short Green Day for Usher and Rihanna. I so badly wanna make a joke here about Rihanna but it might be too offensive.

Honestly, this is one of the more understandable star freak outs. I mean, under what conditions did Rhianna and Usher get their extra time? It's clear something was cut suddenly. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they had their own freak out behind closed doors to get that arranged.

It's not necessarily the most mature way to deal with it, but it's understandable.

I wouldn't say it was a breakdown at all, to be honest it's quite agreeable. The set was supposed to be about an hour but for other people running late they cut their time to about 25 mins, and given 1 minute left when I'm pretty sure the song they were on would over run that.

Honestly this isn't worth going to rehab over, and sounds like it's just damage control on the publishers part.

Being angry in public or on stage isn't a breakdown.

Green Day are way past their prime and need to simmer the hell down. Their pop sensation crap is on equal level with Rhihanna and Usher. When your set is over it's over, it sucks but deal with it.

edit: Though it wasn't the case, even IF they got cut by 20 minutes you don't throw a temper tantrum like a fucking child on stage infront of a huge audience.

Don't like dealing with the Byzantine practices of the music industry? Go back to the indie scene, I mean Green Day could sell out a dingy little club within minutes, and who knows, going back to their roots could help them you know... be good again.

It started off quite amusing but it all turned sour by the time Billie Joe smashed his own guitar up. Way to spend your final minute.

He has a point though; Green Day have been making music since 1988 (you should respect that whether or not you enjoy their music) and now he has his set cut by 20 minutes to make way for the likes of Rihanna and Usher? I'm pretty confident I could pick out a Green Day song from the first few bars even if I'd never heard it before but I wouldn't know Rihanna or Usher if they slapped me in the face personally.

I'm nowhere near as big a Green Day fan as I once was, but yeah. I'd listen to them all day before I listened to even one song by Rihanna or Usher.
Exactly.

he had a right to be pissed. he didn't have to act like a five year old on stage and have a temper tantrum about it. the word 'fuck' loses all impact when you spew it every other word.

it is equally embarrassing that he checked into "rehab" after the incident. i guess that whole pissing on the audience during a show wasn't a red flag that he might have a substance abuse problem. no, this was it.

I remember an interview with BJ a couple of years before their 'reinvention'. He said he doesn't get the new bands, and he doesn't want to get them. Well within 2 years of saying that, he had became one of these 'new' bands, with the eyeliner and sleeves and lack of a fricken sense of humour.

Well look at you now BJ - GreenDay is the poppiest 'punk' band the world has ever known. The guy sold out and now he wants sympathy because Rihanna and Usher took some of his time... well here's a novel thought... STOP performing in the same show as people like that!. Maybe next time, consider how much you need the money, against how much you can stand the thought of performing alongside the other artists that your new fans like.

BJ is a total douchebag these days, ever since Warning. I'm an old GD fan, I like the Dookie album, and I like BrainStew, back when GD didn't take themselves so seriously. The old Green Day would have eaten those 25 minutes up - they'd fit 10 songs in there and make the most of it.
My feelings exactly. Except I liked them all the way to American Idiot :p It's quite sad as well - Yeah, their earlier stuff was quite childish but it was SO good. And all the stuff they were singing about in American Idiot? Now they are those guys. It's sad to see what they were and what they have become.

I'm seriously superised by the amount of positive comments on this. It doesn't matter how long you've been around or who is more popular, you don't spew a bunch of crap about how all the other artists suck in comparison (even though I'd rather listen to a Justin Bieber song than listen to that new Green Day track *bleh*)
