Meh. I'm expecting it to be terrible since it looks like Saints Row 3 but with a bunch of gimmicky new abilities, but I suppose you can't know for sure until it's out.

I think it will be fun, but I can't say that I'm going to adore it. 3 is alright, it just feels like it's trying to hard to make me laugh. Like it's uncomfortable making jokes on it's own, it wants to impress me, so it just spouts profanities and genitals.

I liked Saint's Row 3 but Saint's Row 2 was my favorite of the series. I haven't really cared for what I've seen of SR4 so much and just decided to stop watching. I may end up getting SR4 once there's a complete edition out but I'm just not really excited about it. What is surprising though is how excited I'm getting about GTAV.

Anyway one or two more things about SR4: If Septic Avenger and, Crowd Control come back then I'll be more inclined to get it sooner instead of waiting.

also Fight Club...and FUZZ...and Hitman...and Demolition Derby...bring those back for SR4 and drop Tank Mayhem.

So I am usually afraid of looking at the comments for Saints Row 3 or Saints Row 4 related videos because I can bet they will all be 'HOW DARE THEY NOT MAKE SAINTS ROW 2 WITH BETTER GRAPHICS!' And then I looked at some comments for Saints Row IV and it's just...
Oh. Look. People are saying how excited they are for the game. People are defending the game against the aforementioned 'HOW DARE THEY NOT blardy blardy blar' kind of people.
/oh/ /look/ people are actually HAPPY about it.
Why you are such prejudiced against people who didn't like the path SR is going? Why you are defining critics as "blardy blardy blar' kind of people"? Should they not have opinion on this subject?

I guess Saints Row developers target 12-16 age group. So if you are close to this age group, then SR4 is a instant favorite for you. But if you are not, then you may get bored from the changes to the SR series.

For me, the reason I love SR2 is this:
It has constant development and twists in the story, and it keeps me to keep interest on the game. Characters have different backgrounds and personalities. Combat is fun compared to GTA4. Each quest is different but very connected to the storyline. It has a bit realistic like GTA4, but you still feel like an action hero. And Shaundi is a really cool character.

I hate SR3 because it doesn't containt the think I love in SR2. It excluded every element that makes SR2 a good GTA clone, and just hold on the wackiness elements. There is no compelling story, there is no enjoyable characters, there is no action hero-ey combat...
And they totally screwed Shaundi's cool personality. Now she is just a playboy girl - Lara Croft mix.

Think about it. When Aisha dies in SR2, player feels emotional and sad. But when Johnny Gat dies in SR3, you don't feel anything about it, because you barely get connected with him in the story.

And SR4 will continue this fashion. They are targeting for more selling formula. Aiming a range 10-18 age group, and making a game compelling for a 12 years old. Therefore they keep going farther away from SR2 and GTA4, and trying to make their "wacky" game. It will definitely be a "wacky" game, but will it be a good game? No.
Stories, characters, events will have no reason behind them. And your decision will have no impact on the world. Everything you do in the quests is just for "wackiness". And all of these removes the immersion from the game.

That's why I loved SR2, you feel like you are in the game, you are a part of the world:

The reason I'm prejudiced against people who 'don't like the direction Saints Row is going' is because they feel the need to rave on and on about it. The 'critics' can have an opinion as long as they don't walk up to people who like Saints Row IV and rage that the people who like Saints Row IV's opinions are wrong, and maybe if they actually made some criticisms beyond 'It isn't Saints Row 2'
Sometimes people get tired of gangsters, over and over again. And you can bet, with even Saints Row 2's personality, the same city with the same thing happening would get dull. Saints Row the Third came along, took a risk and brought new things to the table, and, naturally, people hate change and thus they hated the Third. And even with IV's similarities to the Third (which only seem to be in the graphics and GUI system), they still brought new things. The same city, sure, but with a new villain, story, gameplay features and such. I loved Saints Row 2, don't get me wrong, but if Saints Row the Third wasn't made the way it was, the Saints Row series would deviate into the same concept that Call of Duty does - let's make the same game with better graphics, over and over.

I can't bring myself to support a company which thought that a fun game mechanic was a RAPE GUN. That's not fun, thats not something I want to see other companies copy. Why would you do that?
Oh for Christs sake. It's a fucking VIDEO GAME. Killing people is morally wrong and yet I bet you play things like CoD and Halo all day long. Go watch Jim's video on violence and then come back and we can have an intelligent discussion about it.

I enjoyed SR2 quite a bit. While SR3 felt slightly different, I enjoyed it just as much.....though I wasn't keen on them killing off Gat that early. Something about SR4 just isn't doing it for me. I'm sure I'll get it but it won't be soon. Most likely a $20 purchase.

Unfortunately it's been refused classification in Australia, so I won't be able to find out. That being said, Saints Row 2 wasn't too bad, I don't love the series, it's left me lukewarm at best.

I thought it was something to do with illicit drugs, but that anal probe thingy is a rather stupid thing to put in, toilet humour at best... Why doesn't it just get an R18+ classification? That's what it's there for. A reasonable adult can tell the difference between reality and fantasy. (sorry, this is not directed at you.)
Actually its not, the R18 rating still has guidelines and there were 2 which were made quite obvious at the time to anyone who was paying attention "realistic drug use" was one which would probably earn an RC and the other was sexual violence not justified by context

The other limitation was on realistic sex because that falls under X instead of R and there is no X rating for games, why I don't know, I will never understand why its ok to blow someone to bits or torture them or rip them to shreds or whatever other horrific thing sick people can think of but show someone having consensual sex and OH NO MUST STOP THAT NOW. Baffles me

Anyway in the case of Saints Row the drug use didn't help its cause but the main reason given was sexual violence not justified by context and actually that's a good thing. Been reading through the Sex parties facebook thread on this and most of the people there are actually saying (and I'm paraphrasing) 'yes you could complain about the other RC for drug use but when it comes to this putting sexual violence in a game for shits and giggles isn't good enough'.

I enjoyed SR3 and i was thinking of getting SR4, but i just don't see much difference. Maybe if there are good reviews about it i might consider buying it. If not, i will get it when it's on a good offer.

I'm anticipating Saints Row 4 for two reasons:

1. If you look at it as a standalone, it looks gloriously stupid in a way that AAA games don't even try at these days, and it looks more gloriously stupid than any other big-budget game before. It's to gaming what "Vampire's Kiss" was to drama films, if you will, and Vampire's Kiss is my favourite movie ever, so...

2. In context with the series, it's the first big-budget series I know of that has four completely different games in it. Even though they follow a pretty predictable trajectory (first game is a super-serious crime drama, and they get derpier from there), it's still impressive that the games are very unique entities all the way through. And hey, I complain that I don't like derivative things, so...

I know it still looks waayyy too much like Saints Row 3 because it (was) will be an over priced expansion to Saints Row 3. But stiiiiiilll.
Which in turn was an expansion pack of Saints Row 2, notice how we haven't had a Saints Row 3 yet? :)

We did have a Saints Row 3. It was called Saints Row the Third. You know, Saints Row the 3rd.

I was wary of it because it was supposedly the DLC for III but expanded, but it really does look like they've added enough stuff to justify it's existence as a full on sequel. Plus it might be the closest I get to playing Crackdown on PC.

I was on board from the beginning, although I am sort of afraid that they'll spend the entire game trying to top themselves and I will lose interest

Just seemed like an expansion pack with "The Third" being it's title as a parody.

I've been on board since the beginning because it's a game that embraces pure FUN instead of being stuck up its ass like too many other games. SR3 was goofy, mad, exhilarating fun from start to finish and by FAR the best game in the series. My only complaint for SRIV is that they're recycling the city instead of making a brand new one. Though considering the drama the dev team went through prior to this I'm not going to mark them down TOO much.

I noticed this when playing SR3...In fact, I noticed the same thing with SR2 after watching a LP of SR1...

I'm getting it solely because I've never had more fun than doing co-op with my friend in Saints Row the Third, and we are going to recapture that fun with Saints Row 4.

Otherwise, I was pretty disappointed in the poorer customization and the shallower combat in Saints Row the Third. It was a city with cars and pedestrians to run over, but there wasn't anything to it--no random gunfights between gangs, no 'because I fucking can' things like Flashing or Streaking, you never got a chance to use planes or attack helicopters, all the buildings were inaccessible and empty so every fight you have is on the streets and not, for example, moving between factories and rooftops.

I asked a friend to pre order it so I'll get the full version. I was introduced to the series with the third so I'll love 4

I wasn't too bothered about it because I thought it was just going to be a glorified expansion pack (Which it WAS to start with.) Then things starting coming out, superpowers, hover tanks, mechs. Now I'm interested but will still wait for reviews :)

Hopefully the superpowers are well executed to bring back some of that prototype/ crackdown vibe I have been missing.

Also some of the most co op experiences I have had in a game has been in saints row2/3.
