http://idolninja.com/blog/?cat=12 and http://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/threads/saints-row-iv-press-preview-followup.2823/ . Two Preview Articles from someone who has already played SR4's Campaign. As you can read in this Articles SR4 is not aimed at 12yo Kids and Idiots (and to claim everyone who liked SR3 and likes SR4 is immature makes only you seem immature so please stop it. If you don't like them then say you don't like them but don't insult People who like SR3 and 4) and you can also clearly read that SR3 is not an overpriced DLC Pack. If same Engine and same City makes a DLC for you out of it then your glorified SR2 (wich i played and loved) was also just an DLC (same City and same Engine as SR1). And just because SR4 has Superpowers and Aliens doesn't mean it is just plain silly and has o good Story. I wish People wouldn't jump to Conclusions so quickly. And you also you should think a Moment about how Game Development works before tearing SR3 apart. They had to develop a New Engine and build an entire New City. That takes alot of effort and Time. So you shouldn't see SR3 as "normal" Sequel to SR2 but more of a Reboot. They had to start from Scratch and that is why there is less Content in SR3 than in SR2. And if you think any other Company solved this Problem better then give me the Name of that Company and the Game Franchise. Even Rockstar Games wich has way more Developers than Volition had this Problem with GTA4. Look how much Content there seems to be in GTAV now. Do you really think they could have done this if they had to additionaly develop a New Engine ? It is always easy to accuse someone of doing it wrong but you also never have the Solution for doing it wright. For Example: Many of the so called Hardcore Fans (i wrote so called because to me it really seems that you are in the Minority no matter how loud you yell) Claim that Saints Row should have stayed a serious Gangster Game (wich it never was. It was always a Spoof. If you don't believe me replay the Story of SR2). But with all the Fuzz around GTAV now how do think SR4 would have Chance if the only difference to GTA would be that it is a little more funny ? Oh and one more Thing: SR4 was never a DLC that they expanded to a Full Game. They merged SR4 wich they started developing shortly before the Release of SR3 and the planned Enter the Dominatrix DLC for SR3 wich also had started Development. Check your sources before you post such stupid Claimes as SR4 is just an pumped up DLC. It is not that hard. But ok i understand it is easier to bash something if you don't know to much about it, am i right ?

The reason I'm prejudiced against people who 'don't like the direction Saints Row is going' is because they feel the need to rave on and on about it. The 'critics' can have an opinion as long as they don't walk up to people who like Saints Row IV and rage that the people who like Saints Row IV's opinions are wrong, and maybe if they actually made some criticisms beyond 'It isn't Saints Row 2'
Sometimes people get tired of gangsters, over and over again. And you can bet, with even Saints Row 2's personality, the same city with the same thing happening would get dull. Saints Row the Third came along, took a risk and brought new things to the table, and, naturally, people hate change and thus they hated the Third. And even with IV's similarities to the Third (which only seem to be in the graphics and GUI system), they still brought new things. The same city, sure, but with a new villain, story, gameplay features and such. I loved Saints Row 2, don't get me wrong, but if Saints Row the Third wasn't made the way it was, the Saints Row series would deviate into the same concept that Call of Duty does - let's make the same game with better graphics, over and over.
I hate when people go to the "they just hate change" thing. Actually learn why people have a problem with a change for Christ sake.

2 managed to have a good story by balancing the humor with the serious moments. The Third was just deadpool the game before deadpool the game existed. In 2 you could take on several gangs in whichever order you want why in 3 you're linearly going after the one combined force of villains.

What the heck makes you think they would need to rehash the game like COD to keep the tone intact. Vice City and San Andreas have the same base machanics and style of humor mixed with drama but they still feel distinct from each other.

OT: My feelings on everything Saints IV related has been one big meh. I might buy it buy definitely not day one.

GTA 5 comes out right after SR 4, I mean.. I just don't care about Saint's Row as a series. It's okay I guess. It seems like they're more interested in getting out the door before (or right near) GTA just to ride the market. Shallow games, in my opinion.

I have a passing interest..

It's probably going to be just as shallow, disjointed and weightless as the last game.

Also, DNF-esq style humour isn't my thing. I'll probably just wait for GTA 5 to come out

I got to play it at E3 and I gotta say, the skepticism I had that it was going to be Saints Row 3.5 pretty much dissipated when I was superspeeding around the city throwing people around with telekinesis. Your character handles much differently now.

Saints Row 3 was amazing, but I never played the other two. However, 90% of what I play/read/watch is dark, dramatic, serious, character driven drama. Now, at the time I bought the game I was stressed out because of finals, and because my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, so I spent every day in the hospital. I didn't want a game about the brutality of violence, or a dissertation on the cause of organized crime. I wanted to climb into a tank at 60,000 feat and start shooting at other tanks. I wanted a Jersey Shore douchebag that speaks zombie to hit little old ladies with a phallic bat. Saints Row delivered.

The developers seemed to understand exactly what gamers wanted from a videogame. They didn't just allow stupidity, they REWARDED it. Entire missions where you are rewarded for blowing things up with a tank. That's what any gamer would do with a tank anyway. They also seemed to listen to their fans. I saw where shaundi used to be a funny, likable character before they changed her. The developers acknowledged their mistake, and now they'll have BOTH shaundis, which is a pretty funny jab at their own mistakes. Clearly they were humble enough to listen to their fans, and give them what they wanted.

So! What's your opinion on Saints Row IV or how people are seeming to like it?
Personally, I felt SP2 was the best in the series. SR3 was fun, but they changed up the mission formula for worse (IMO), and went way crazy (though I did love the awesome button and the dedicated "dick punch" button.

Bro, Saints Row 2 is far from dark and dramatic and serious all the time. See, it has those moments. but you talk about being rewarded for blowing up things with a tank? Saints Row 2 rewards you for spraying shit all over people and houses with a sewage truck.

Saint's Row 2 just really had some higher brow humor and class then SR three, which is more bottom of the barrel. It's humor is far more based on satirical things then running around with a dildo bat. However at the same time, managed to have these serious moments in the games that fit, had purpose and drove everything forwards.

Not to mention, when someone dies. It's clear and not off screen bullshit. I didn't know Gat was actually dead until after the game. Why? He's a badass, hell, the second game ends with him alone on a bridge fighting it out with the cops in a gun battle, just having fun with it.

I don't know if I'd classify any of the Saints Row games as high brow. I understand your point, and the points all the classic fans make. My main argument is that, right now, the game industry is dominated by dark, gritty , angsty video games like Spec-Ops, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, and a massive host of grey and brown military shooters. Now, having more serious games is not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a huge relief to find a game that doesn't take itself seriously at all. It just doesn't give a shit. I'm not saying you're wrong, and if I had been a fan of the first two games then I'd probably be angry too, but I thoroughly enjoyed Saints Row 3 for what it was. I think you have to think of Saints Row 1-2 as being totally separate from Saints Row 3-4.
