Donkey Kong, how can an ape be a donkey?
The original developers were Japanese, and they were looking for an english translation for "stubborn ape." For stubborn, the word they found was donkey, and for ape they found kong. At least that's what I heard. It's still pretty dumb.

One of the worst titles I ever remember seeing was FEAR. Yes, fear...that emotion that can sometimes be passed through by games when they actually gear towards being scary. Then there's this generic FPS game with some little girl from the ring for some arbitrary reason. It wasn't a dreadful game, they should have just called it something more appropriate like...like... GUN-oh wait, snap!

I'm really quite shocked we haven't seen the title "SPACE SOLDIERS" since pretty much every game focused on nowadays could adopt it.

Lost: The Game

Well, okay, it's actually Lost: The Video Game, but it doesn't have quite the same retarded ring to it.

Close, he was supposed to be called "Monkey Kong" but they mistranslated the M to a D. At least that's what I heard.

it was from them looking up the name of a stupid animal and came across 'donkey', the 'Kong' is from King Kong.

It's hard to get the rights to a good name.

The racing game Continental Circus by Taito is pretty annoyingly named, so annoying that people assume that it is was supposed to be called Continental Circuits but the name was botched in translation.
