I used to wear a baseball cap every day. Sometimes it had a team on it that I don't actually cheer for. People assumed I liked and knew about whatever team was on the cap.
This is exactly why im carefull about what shirts or caps I buy associated with bands or teams. Even if they do look really cool :<. The endless questions.

I have a shirt that says "ninjas cant catch you if your on fire" i like to think iot sums up my sense of humor and random fun.

i wear a lot of band t-shirts around. And some people give me shit for them, and seem to think i wear them because i want to look cool. My brother actually said to me "Dude, why do you wear band shirts, chicks hate them". And I was like "Do I look like I give 2 shits? I don't wear these shirts because I think other people will like them. I wear them because I'm really passionate about the music and I feel good wearing my passion on my sleeve".

Hi all,

I was wondering if you guys and gals have an item or piece clothing which is 'you' but people who don't know you think really strange of or the opposite of what it means for you.

I myself have an old Dutch milatary trenchcoat. I love it because I think it looks nice, has a history and keeps me warm till mid-winter. Sometimes when I hit the street people look at me quite strange and I've heard someone calling me: "Gestapo." once. I don't care, I know I'm not one, but I can understand somewhat that reaction.
My question is: Do you have any items or clothing that people could interpret differently than what it means or is for you?
Same problem with you, but with an RAF one. Everyone either calls me a Nazi or a Russian, because apparantly only the political extremists kept themselves warm in the 1930s.

Also, Ponchos, but I can understand that. That's just TOO CRAZY for their suburban minds to comprehend

'Tis genuine, too. Got it in Puno by Lake Titicaca in Peru

I've made some t-shirts with Alpacas on them. People always ask if it's a llama.

Presice. That was my though a bit as well when I started this topic: what kind of 'strange' things do people have or ware that other people could be prejudice about. As most of you think, from what I think to read is: I express what I like, if that's cool with me, that's enough. It's a good attitude to have I think. And there probably will be chicks who dig that kind of stuff and guess what... you don't need to change a thing about yourself to still feel pretty damned good about yourself.

The fact I used to get called a "townie", not sure what the U.S equivalent would be, for wearing Hoodies and baggy jeans with a beanie or cap. These days I get asked to leave shopping centers.

Ive always wore Hoodies. I always will, I love em.

Oh and I get asked why I always wear a beanie, even in high summer. It's cuz i cant be fucked to do my hair and I like beanies. Grrrr.

I wear a St. Christopher medallion around my neck at all times, people assume it's because I'm in any way religious... they are wrong.

The medallion was a gift from my mom on my 17th birthday, which was the day I got my driver's license, St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers, and every person on my mom's side of the family has worn a St. Christopher starting on the day they head out on their own or travel anywhere... so it's more of a symbol of tradition than one of spiritual importance.

Well, pretty much all of the t-shirts I own are either from running races, have something funny on them, or have a band on them.
People get really confused when I wear my lasercats t-shirt, and people often make comments about my Children of Bodom t-shirt whenever I wear it (even my math teacher).
What kind of comments do they make then? Is it in the way of "It's evil." or something like that?
Well, my math teacher took one look and said "Well, that sure is a cheery shirt.", but a lot of people say that it's evil or satanic or whatever.

Quite ironic, an old woman shouted at me today in the middle of the street because i was wearing my CoB shirt. Apparently im 'evil'.
Yeah, I've been told the same thing quite a few times, but it's kind of funny isn't it? Most of the people who say that have probably never heard of, let alone listened to, Children of Bodom.

people assume all skinheads are neo-nazis, when we all aren't.
I know. I've seen a docu about the beginning of the skinhead movement. As far as I know they were something like a working class movement and had nothing to do with racism if I am not mistaken. But alas that happens with more things when you are a bit of a non-conformist, people always want to think they can get a mark on you.

*Edit: But as long as I know what I stand for, I couldn't care less what other people think of it. It says more about them being prejudice than me having on my coat or whatever.
it still is a working class subculture. We don't get the kids who like to play dress up like the punks do, that's mainly the reason i got fed up with the punk scene, and why im a skinhead these days. The negative stereotypes are annoying as shit though, my girlfriends mexican and my best friend is black, so when people see all of us they look reaallllly confused.

I get very bored of the silly fucks who always say to me "SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice? Isn't that an oxymoron?"... Especially as I've been a SHARP since '91 so I've been one longer than half these wee twerps have been alive.
I wouldn't consider myself SHARP but im definitely not a nazi. Most of the other skins i hang out with don't bring our political views and associate it with the culture, some of us are republicans, democrats, libertarians and whatnot.

My In Flames wristband has had me labelled as a self harmer attempting to hide the cuts on many occasions. Mainly after those stupid news casts about "emos" where one person showed cuts under his wristwear to the camera.

Idiotic generalisations are fun!

My Hammer and Sickle patterned wallet.

"Hey why the Commie wallet? You flaunting your political standing?"

"No, I bought it because it looks nice and I like it. I don't need to flaunt that I'm a communist."
...now I want a wallet like that, the idea of the symbol representing communism being printed on an item that has such close ties to capitalism makes me giggle.
I'll take a pic and put it as my avatar, I like how you noticed the irony :D
It's almost as ironic as buying a T-shirt with Che Guevara's face on it ;)
I have one of those :D
Do you have the shirt of Che wearing a T-Shirt with his face on it?
