The real problem with this is that, if you really truly believe that by doing this you will go to hell, and if you DON'T do it and die you will go to heaven, then it makes perfect sense to them. Of course, questionable is the reason you are not allowed to have them, but that's neither here nor there.
But don't most religions view suicide as a taboo?

a "belief" exists in itself, a Belief is a Noun, making it a thing, giving it existence, it just isn't "Tangible" thats what i BELIEVE you were trying to say
Sigh... the word of believe exists, but the believing is of the mind, but if it can be real then you KNOW it will exist.
sigh... your not getting it everything in this world exists!!! whether or not it is something only in our minds or not, it still has existance because someone thought it up, as for reality, there is no Clear, visible line which divides Reality and fiction. it's all opinion, tangibilty is where the differences are.

God hates all religion and all the bullshit done in His name. I know, because He told me so at poker with george dubya and john howard last week.

My friend and I were just talking yesterday about how it seems like japanese people were gifted with all of God's glory because shinto didn't F him up like all other religions (no real supported argument there, it's just for laughs. Hur hur).

But yeah, it's already been said before. Sounds like he's just making an excuse. Ask him what else his 'religion' forbids him to do...and what's his religion in the first place. Cus again, I don't remember the bible mentioning X-rays.

If you think God really wants you to avoid valid medical practices, ask yourself this. Why did God, all knowing and all powerful, gift Man with the insight to come up with these technologies, which have been proven to save lives? Do you honestly think Satan is working through your dental practitioners by helping you avoid jaw infections now, at the cost of the negligible chance of cancer in 50 years time?

A while ago, there was a story about a girl who's parents refused to get medical treatment for her because they believed God would heal her. All I could say to that is, "Why are you slapping God in the face by refusing the healthcare technology that He gifted us with the intelligence to discover?"
Exactly. If you believe in a god obviously.

It's only a valid excuse if it's an actual religion. If you just say it's against your religion because you don't want to do something ("I can't clean the apartment it's against my religion") then no, it's nothing near a valid excuse.
Define 'actual religion'
A religion you actually follow. I was referring to someone that has no religious beliefs, but when they need an excuse they say my religion forbids it. But if you truly believe in that religion then yes, it's a valid argument.
And how would it be verified if one truly believes or not?
I'm not saying it would be provable by anyone other than the person using the excuse, but that's why it's up to them to be honest about it.

This really makes me want to touch the whole "I'm dyslexic so i can't do that" issue.
I think that if a person is genuine when they say "Its against my religion" we should respect their beliefs.
Sometimes people do use it for their advantage.
That is the problem...

Yes, but here it would be the difference between actively killing yourself and thinking that it is just your time to die. Either way, though, it's kinda freaky.

Why am i suddenly reminded of the Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin proclaims that he is a Math Atheist?
