No, no saying "it's my preference" means you find what you're doing already to be superior.

Exactly. Some people just know how to keep their thought to themselves.

I still think you should become a vegitarian. There is no excuse!
As I've said before, Real Men don't become vegetarians. There's no biological excuse for vegetarianism in the species, Homo sapiens, and frankly, doing it "for the environment" is like driving a hybrid car, and you should have figured out by now that petrol-electric hybrids are complete rubbish. Hmmm, that sounds a lot like something I'd say.
...guess I'm not needed here *sniff*

OK, so I spewed out a bunch of examples in an attempt to direct attention away from those specific situations and on to the whole: why is it that people can't seem to respect someone's personal prefrence, when a choice is not made in ignorance?
Because humans are prickly creatures that like to think they can control everything and that their way is the only way, apart of human nature I guess. I agree tho, there are alot of people that go overboard and frankly its rather sad at times.

I'm not gonna jump on this topic's bandwagon and say "Well said, OP!". I disagree with your point. While it may indeed be your preference, another option may very well make you better off, if you open up to it. In other words, I don't see the whole "It's my preference"-thing as anything else than ignoring the superiority of alternatives.

So you tried PC gaming and it wasn't for you? That's fine by me. There are, however, plenty of people who bash at PC gaming without giving it a proper go ( and vice versa, of course ).

You say we should respect choices that were not made in ignorance, and I agree. However, I highly doubt that choices are really made with no ignorance.
When you get people who never shut up about something though or totally disregard someone else's opinion though is what irks me. If someone says NO they should not have to be badgered into trying something.

I can see where people hide behind their opinions is annoying but that is their choice to hide behind them. If I don't want to buy a Wii I don't want the same person or persons to keep telling me to buy one because it is superior.

They should respect a persons decision and leave them be.

Mine gets beat with a crowbar whenever he so much as looks at making comments. Oops, pardon me, he's looking at me funny.
*Goes and beats personal self-important jackass with a crowbar.
Dont look over here ever again.

Sorry 'bout that, anyway, I dont like people who tell me what I should be using. Like the guy on my floor who keeps telling me to get a zune. I like my iPod, money isnt an issue as I pirate most of my music anyway. So yeah, Im gonna stop before I get too off track.

I agree for the most part, but I do enjoy being enlightened on occasion with good advice I never knew I wanted. I don't mind people telling me about the alternatives to what I am using so long as they aren't too persistent/arrogant in doing so.

There is no sense in being stubborn and defensive when somebody is trying to tell you what you might be missing out on, but there is no point telling somebody what they might be missing out on when they are perfectly happy with what they have. That's how I see it at least.

Let's make an extreme case out of this:

"It's my preference to kill people and I find that killing people is superior to not killing them. You should leave me be, because I already know it's a better choice."

Or something like:

"It's my preference to carry Uranium with me at all times, and you should leave me alone, because I find that carrying Uranium is superior to not carrying it."

In both cases I ignore that 'my preference' is harmful to others and is therefore inferior overall, even though I personally deem it to be superior.
