American English isn't a language. Thats why. You could call it a dialect, but I wouldn't say so. Our northaners may say things like "t' pit" But all they've done is shorten the word "the" to the first sound.Pimppeter2 said:Which begs the question of; Why you tend to bother us about American English?kurupt87 said:Finally we have the most approriate and favourite argument that we Brits use against Americans and other foreign English speakers; it's our fucking language, we'll speak it however we like.
Didn't even read the article, did you?Jackalb said:Old news is old. It's Football, get over it Yanks.
In Australia "Ruggers" has a whole different meaning.Hurr Durr Derp said:So by that logic, we should all start calling rugby "rugger"? Because that retarded term has the exact same origins as "soccer".
Tell you what, as soon as the general audience starts calling rugby "rugger" and American football "rugger with extra padding", I'll start calling football "soccer". If you're going by who started what, the term "football" has been around far longer and is used far more widespread than "soccer".
Besides, I'm Dutch and we call it "voetbal". Which, in case you hadn't guessed, literally means "football".
I skimmed -.-'lacktheknack said:Didn't even read the article, did you?Jackalb said:Old news is old. It's Football, get over it Yanks.

We tried at one point; Congress actually passed some legislation saying that the US of A officially uses the metric system, but the populace as a whole wasn't really very familiar with the measurements, and we couldn't implement it efficiently enough to make a difference.Zeromaeus said:Why don't we use the metric system?
Then you missed the point of the article you quoted.Pimppeter2 said:[HEADING=2]Not Football, Soccer[/HEADING]
I bow to your superior knowledge of Rugby, I'll admit I 5-pin bowl (which is a League) and the only sport I mostly watch is hockey (again League play) and I just assumed that Rugby was organized as a League as well. This is why I like the internet, you get to learn something new with a little effort.RhombusHatesYou said:Actually, it's more likely to be a Union as most Rugby Union competition level organisations call themselves Unions, and as far as I know Union is far more popular in Canada than League is (especially as it's far more popular in most countries than League is).Rantling said:Oh also we have a quite enthusiastic Rugby league.
